Bend-founded brewery will close Portland pub after less than two years
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An Oregon-founded brewery will soon cease operations at its Portland location, just as it ushers in new beginnings in its flagship city.
Crux Fermentation Project has informed customers that its pub on 2715 SE 8th Ave. will shutter this weekend.

'After almost 2 years, we have made the difficult decision to close our Portland pub,' Crux announced on . 'Our last day of service will be this Sunday 3/30 and we hope to see you for one last pint here in Portland.'
Larry Sidor founded the beer brand in 2012, with the founding of its first Bend tasting room. Crux expanded to its Southeast Portland location more than a decade later in mid-June 2023.
Now, with less than two years at its second pub under its belt, the company is focusing on operations in its hometown.

Crux put its Bend brewpub, located on 50 SW Division St., up for sale last April. The property has since been sold, but the brand is still renting the space as its tasting room.
The agreement with the property's new owner has allowed the brewers to ensure the future of their company, according to a social media post.
'The sale of our property last year has opened opportunities, including investment in growing our non-alcoholic NØMØ lineup and launching a 401k program for all Crux employees,' the brand .
Owners also reported that it anticipates new neighbors at the Bend tasting room, now that two retail spaces nearby are available.

Although the Portland location is no more, Crux products can still be found in different retailers and restaurants throughout the city, including New Seasons Market, Fred Meyer and Fire On the Mountain.
Additionally, the company said Portland customers with gift cards can redeem them at the Bend location, online or through one final sale before the pub closes.

Skanska secures $158m worth of renovation contracts in US
Construction company Skanska has secured two new renovation contracts in the US, totalling a value of $158m. The first contract, an amendment with the City of Redmond, is for the expansion of the Redmond Municipal Airport in Oregon. Valued at approximately Skr1.0bn ($98m), this project will be included in the company's US order bookings for the second quarter (Q2) of 2025. The expansion of the Redmond Municipal Airport includes over 7,400m² of concourse expansion and terminal renovation. The project will introduce new gates with jet bridges, retail spaces, and concessions. The expansion will feature a mass timber roof structure and is designed to meet increasing capacity demands, enhance Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, improve energy efficiency, and elevate the passenger experience. Construction is set to begin this month and is expected to reach completion by January 2028. In addition to the airport project, Skanska has signed a contract with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for the reconstruction of the Walter Clinton Jackson Library. This contract, worth roughly Skr620m, will also be recorded in Q2. The renovation will encompass the university's original 1950s four-storey library and a nine-storey tower addition from the 1970s, covering approximately 21,700m². The library's transformation will integrate high-tech group study areas, central convening spaces, and expanded capacity for individual student use, positioning it as a hub for academic research. Construction on the university library commenced in May 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by late 2027. These contracts follow Skanska's recent $274m contract from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for the design and replacement of the Rourke Bridge in Lowell, and a supplemental contract from Virginia Tech for the construction of a new College of Engineering building. Battery manufacturer Powin files for bankruptcy months after landing $200M loan
Battery manufacturer Powin filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday. The Oregon-based company said it has more than $300 million in debt. The Chapter 11 filing will let the company continue operating while it restructures its debt. Powin manufactured grid-scale batteries using lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells from China. The company had been searching for alternative domestic suppliers, but the supply chain wasn't sufficiently mature, Jeff Waters, the company's former CEO, told Bloomberg in April. The company laid off nearly 250 employees earlier this month, and just 85 remain, less than a fifth of what it started the year with. Alongside the bankruptcy filing, Waters was replaced by Brian Krane, Powin's chief projects officer. Powin was a survivor of the first clean tech boom over a decade ago. The company was taken private in 2018, and it received $135 million in growth equity in 2022 from investors, including Energy Impact Partners, GIC, and Trilantic Energy Partners. More recently, it secured a $200 million revolving credit facility from KKR. In recent years, Powin has grown alongside the boom in grid-scale battery storage, ranked third in the U.S. in terms of installed capacity and fourth worldwide. The company did not say what spurred the sudden rise in debt, though given its reliance on Chinese LFP cells, tariffs may have played a roll.
