Ozzy Osbourne's Guitarist Zakk Wylde Details Final Conversation
Zakk Wylde is sharing his final moment with Ozzy Osbourne.
The guitarist, who worked on and off with the 'Crazy Train' singer since 1987, recently reflected on playing Osbourne's final show with Black Sabbath on July 5, admitting he had no idea how impactful the moment would become.
'Everybody and their mother were in the backstage dressing room and I just wanted to give him a break,' Zakk recalled in an interview with Guitar World published July 29. 'I figured we'd see him later on—the next day or whatever. But no. The last text I got from Oz was saying, 'Zakky, sorry, it was like a madhouse back there. I didn't see you.' He goes, 'Thanks for everything.''
And while it was an otherwise normal exchange for the musicians, Zakk shared it gave him the closure he needed.
'It was just us talking, saying, 'I love you, buddy.'' he recalled. 'That was it.'

Ozzy's last show—which saw him play to 45,000 people in his hometown of Birmingham, England—felt like 'business as usual' for Zakk, who rejoined Ozzy's team in 2017 after parting ways in the 2000s. Still, the musician admitted he didn't feel as focused on his performance but rather, 'making sure that Oz was okay.'
'It was definitely pretty amazing,' Zakk recalled. 'Seeing Oz onstage when Sabbath got done, that's the last time I saw him.'
In Zakk's eyes, that final memory with the musician was perfect.
'I'm blessed and grateful,' he continued. 'Anything other than that would be selfish.'
Indeed, Zakk and Ozzy remained close confidants despite their ebbs and flows of working together, with the 58-year-old always considering Ozzy one of his closest mentors.
'Oz was just the best,' he said. 'I have my father, who was a World War II veteran; and then Ozzy, who was almost like an older brother. There was almost a 20-year age gap between us. Youth charity works with council to promote young voices
A youth charity has teamed up with South Oxfordshire District Council to deliver a number of projects this year. Didcot TRAIN is working with the council's Didcot Garden Town team to ensure young people have an influence on work being delivered in the town. Ben Drabble, CEO at Didcot TRAIN, said: "Our youth club's been buzzing. "Paint, plants, music, ideas flying everywhere. Our young people stepped up, got creative and left their mark on Didcot. "We're proud of what they've made and how they've made it happen. Big thanks to South Oxfordshire District Council for believing in the power of youth work." The partnership is supporting the Didcot Garden Party, a summer programme that highlights health, wellbeing, active lifestyles, and sustainability. As part of this programme, an artist has been commissioned to work with young people on a public art display at Cornerstone Arts Centre. Didcot TRAIN and Sustainable Didcot also helped to install recycled steel planters and reclaimed hardwood benches outside Cornerstone. Roger Daltrey hits out at axed The Who drummer Zak Starkey for ‘incredibly upsetting' remarks after fallout
The Who frontman Roger Daltrey has said that comments made by the axed drummer Zak Starkey after leaving the rock group were 'incredibly upsetting'. Earlier this year, Starkey, the son of Beatles' legend Ringo Starr, was sensationally sacked from the rock band twice in quick succession. The reasons behind the split have been disputed: longtime Who members Daltrey and Pete Townshend have claimed that Starkey made a mistake during their Royal Albert Hall performance in April, while Starkey has claimed that the error was Daltrey's. Later, the band said the drummer had exited the project willingly due to other commitments, but Starkey claimed he had been asked to agree with the statement, and did not want to leave the group. Starkey told The Telegraph that poor planning and under-rehearsal had led to an onstage glitch, which meant Daltrey came in too early when performing 'The Song is Over'. 'What happened was I got it right and Roger got it wrong,' he said. Addressing Starkey's comments, Daltrey told The Times: 'It was kind of a character assassination and it was incredibly upsetting.' Daltrey stated that the dispute began over the band's use of electronic drums, which he hears through in-ear monitors. 'It is controlled by a guy on the side, and we had so much sub-bass on the sound of the drums that I couldn't pitch,' he explained. 'I was pointing to the bass drum and screaming at [Starkey] because it was like flying a plane without seeing the horizon. So when Zak thought I was having a go at him, I wasn't. That's all that happened.' When asked about the back-and-forth between the group, who reinstated Starkey before sacking him again, Daltrey said: 'Pete and I retain the right to be the Who. Everyone else is a session player. 'You can't replace Keith Moon. We wanted to branch out and that's all I want to say about it. But [Starkey's reaction] was crippling to me.' The Independent has contacted Starkey's representative for comment. Following the dispute, Starkey was replaced by Scott Devours. Starkey told The Independent in June that he had been told not to retrieve his drum kit from storage just yet. 'I don't know what the f*** is happening,' he said. 'The thing is, this is The Who, man. The most unpredictable, aggressive, arrogant people, lovely people who are my family, but you never know what's gonna happen, and that's why it's The Who. They have an addiction to friction.'
