Alleged impaired driver going wrong way on Anthony Henday Drive triggers fatal crash: EPS
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the southeast corner of Anthony Henday Drive.
Police said they responded to a single-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes near the Highway 14 overpass, where a Chevrolet Cruze reportedly hit a light pole and caught fire.
Witnesses to the collision pulled the 23-year-old man driving the car out of the burning vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures, but police said he died on scene.
Then, police received reports of a suspect vehicle driving the wrong way on the Henday and was believed to have caused the fatal collision.

The suspect car, a Chevrolet Cavalier, was intercepted by Strathcona County RCMP going north in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive, just south of the Sherwood Park Freeway.

The 23-year-old woman driving the car was arrested. EPS said she is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving. Her name was not released.

EPS have released the following photos of people they'd like to talk to about an arson that happened on July 12, 2025. (Source: Edmonton Police Service) The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has released video and photos of five people they'd like to speak with about an arson that destroyed a playground in July. On July 12 around 8 a.m., emergency crews responded to reports of a fire at a playground near St. Pius X Catholic Elementary School in the Sherbrooke neighbourhood. Police later determined the fire was deliberately set. The playground was severely damaged and is closed until further notice. While the final damages have not yet been estimated, the school's parent association have said the playground cost more than $600,000 and it took over a decade to raise the funds. They are now hoping to identify five people, two males and three females, who were seen on surveillance footage in the area. EPS say they are 'persons of interest' in the investigation. Anyone who can identify any of the people in these photos is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a cellphone. One dead, one arrested following fatal Henday crash: EPS
A 23-year-old man is dead after his car crashed into a light post and caught fire early Saturday morning on Anthony Henday Drive, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say. Around 1:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a Chevrolet Cruze that had crashed on the southbound portion of Henday Drive near the highway 14 overpass. The car had hit a light post and caught on fire. Police said witnesses to the crash pulled the driver, a 23-year-old man, out of the car and attempted lifesaving measures. He died on scene. Police said they received reports of a suspected second vehicle that had been seen going north in the southbound lanes that they believed may have caused the crash. A 23-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Cavalier was found by Strathcona County RCMP near Sherwood Park Freeway and arrested. She is now facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving. EPS say they are still investigating the collision. Woman charged after police allege she was driving in wrong lanes in fatal crash
EDMONTON - A driver in Edmonton has died after his car slammed into a light pole, which police allege was caused by an impaired driver going the wrong way. The Edmonton Police Service says its officers were dispatched early Saturday to the city's southeast, where a Chevrolet Cruze reportedly struck a light standard along the southbound portion of Anthony Henday Drive and caught fire.
