Four Filipinos in Israel hurt after Iran's airstrikes, says Philippines govt

DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said that the Philippine Embassy in Israel is currently checking on the conditions of the four Filipinos. "The four are in the hospital in Rehovot, Israel (about 30 minutes from Tel Aviv), according to the PH Ambassador. But they are not in critical condition,' De Vega told in a message. The two Middle East countries are caught in escalating conflict which saw them exchanging airstrikes over the past few days. Israel targeted Iran's nuclear and military sites on Friday after US President Donald Trump warned of possible 'massive conflict in the region.' Iran also fired ballistic missiles at Israel in a counter-strike on Friday. De Vega also said that the conflict has brought 'mostly psychological trauma' for some Filipinos in Israel. "Iran has no reports of injured or affected Filipinos,' De Vega added. In a Facebook post on Saturday, the Philippine Embassy in Israel reported that it extended help to a Filipino whose house was affected by missile strikes. 'They were safe from harm because they were inside the bomb shelter or mamad when the missile landed,' the post read in Filipino. The embassy also urged Filipinos in Israel to stay close or seek shelter or mamad for their safety. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN

Thai PM Paetongtarn says govt has no plan to send back Cambodian workers

BANGKOK (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Sunday confirmed that her government has no policy to deport Cambodian workers amid ongoing tensions and a border dispute between the two neighbouring countries. Paetongtarn was responding to a statement by the Cambodian government, which announced it was ready to repatriate Cambodian workers currently employed in Thailand. In a message posted on her Facebook and X (Twitter) pages, the Thai prime minister stated: 'Thailand is open to diversity. We welcome foreign workers and provide proper welfare for those who come to work lawfully. We always uphold the principles of human rights.' She added that her government had no intention of expelling foreign workers from any country. 'But if a country announces measures to recall its citizens and offers them jobs back home, it is the right of those workers to make their own decisions within the legal framework of that country,' she said. Paetongtarn has recently faced criticism from some quarters for allegedly being too soft on Cambodia, following escalating tensions that led to a skirmish in Ubon Ratchathani on May 28. Critics linked her stance to the close ties between her father, former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and former Cambodian leader Hun Sen. However, on Sunday, Paetongtarn insisted that she prioritises the national interest. 'I reaffirm that I will not politicise bilateral relations. I also wish to state that any measures between the two countries must be based on national and public interest, which take precedence over my political interests,' she said. - The Nation Thailand/ANN

DPMs Honour Fathers as Family Pillars on Father's Day

KUALA LUMPUR: In a heartfelt Father's Day message, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof paid tribute to fathers nationwide for their unwavering love and quiet sacrifices that shape families and strengthen society. Both leaders likened fathers to the 'captain of the family,' a steadfast figure who navigates life's challenges to steer loved ones safely forward. In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid reflected that a father's love is seldom spoken but is present in every effort, prayer and drop of sweat shed without complaint. 'Behind a calm face and steady steps lie countless sacrifices. He may say little, yet his presence shields the family, his strength carries them, and his love binds them together.' He added that every man who fulfils a paternal role—be it father, grandfather, uncle or other father‑figure—is 'the anchor in life's storm, the strength of the family and the backbone of the nation.' Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, urged Malaysians to cherish their fathers while they still can, embracing them with love, and offering heartfelt prayers for those who have passed on. In a separate post, Fadillah highlighted this year's Father's Day theme, 'Ayahku Kapten Keluarga' (My Father, the Captain of the Family), which captures the pivotal role of fathers as protectors and pillars of strength. 'A father always wants the best for his family—safety, happiness, completeness—even if it means sacrificing everything he has,' said Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. Fadillah noted that fathers are not only providers but role‑models of character and virtue, offering unconditional love and tireless devotion without expecting anything in return. He added that Islam accords high esteem to filial piety, with Qur'anic verses highlighting the duty to honour and thank both parents, especially the father. 'May Allah SWT make us righteous sons and daughters, ever devoted to our parents in life and in death. Happy Father's Day,' read the post.
