26th batch of 1,635 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath Yatra
Braving heavy rains, more than 1600 pilgrims left Jammu on Monday (July 28, 2025) for the twin base camps of the cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security arrangements. The 38-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high shrine, which commenced on July 3 from the valley, has recorded darshan of the ice lingam of Lord Shiva by more than 3.77 lakh pilgrims. Escorted by CRPF and police personnel, the 23rd batch of 1,635 pilgrims, which included 1,303 men, 286 women, four children, and 42 sadhus and sadhvis, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here in 59 vehicles for the twin base camps in Kashmir between 3:25 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., the officials said. The first convoy, carrying 374 pilgrims in 17 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in the Ganderbal district, followed by the second convoy of 1,262 pilgrims in 62 vehicles, who are undertaking the yatra via the 48-km traditional Pahalgam route in the Anantnag district, they said. Chanting "Bum Bum Bhole" and ''Har Har Mahdev'' with enthusiasm, pilgrims braved heavy rains while leaving for the cave shrine. With this, a total of 14,12,95 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the valley since July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch. Tiger safari at Ramgarh Vishdhari likely to begin in Oct
1 2 Edited (334) Jaipur: The long-awaited tiger safari in core area of Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve, is likely to begin in Oct. The Tiger Conservation Plan (TCP) was submitted to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for final approval, with preparations in their concluding phases. Forest authorities indicate that the NTCA has not requested any amendments to the submitted plan. Upon approval, controlled tiger safaris will be permitted in the core zone, enhancing eco-tourism opportunities. "The plan was reviewed by NTCA's four-member committee and is expected to receive final clearance soon. The NTCA has not asked for any further modifications, and it is expected the plan will be approved shortly, allowing safari operations to commence in the core area of Ramgarh Vishdhari," stated a senior forest official. The TCP encompasses scientific wildlife management, enhanced monitoring systems, water resource management, conflict resolution, and species population tracking. According to an expert, approximately 20% of the reserve will be accessible for eco-tourism post-TCP implementation, creating employment prospects for local residents. The reserve spans 1,501.89 square kilometre, comprising a core area of 481.90 square kilometre and a buffer zone of 1,019.98 square kilometre. Currently, six tigers inhabit Ramgarh: two adult males, one adult female, one young male, and two cubs. Officials have proposed safari routes, with one path extending from the Peepkhoda entry gate in Naitpur to the core area. Additional routes will be established post-TCP implementation. "Four zones are likely to be established, with carrying capacity to be determined. Plans include relocating eight villages within the reserve post-approval." Following Independence, these forests came under Rajasthan govt administration. In 1982, a portion was designated as the Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary under Section 5 of the Rajasthan Wild Animals and Birds Protection Act, 1951. Tigers reportedly disappeared from the sanctuary in 1999.
