Zimbabwe Ramps Up Tourism Efforts By Attracting Asian Travel Groups
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) is intensifying efforts to counteract seasonal dips in visitor arrivals by targeting travel groups from Asia. Traditionally, the country experiences a slowdown in tourist activity following the festive season, with numbers declining until the end of March. To mitigate this, organized group tours are being leveraged to sustain industry vibrancy and economic flow.
As Zimbabwe positions itself as an attractive destination for Asian travelers, there has been a noticeable increase in group visits from Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. These travelers are filling the gap left by the seasonal lull, offering a crucial boost to the tourism sector during off-peak months.
To further strengthen ties with Asian travel markets, the ZTA has organized an exclusive familiarization tour for nine influential travel agents from the region. Set to begin in Victoria Falls on Friday, the itinerary includes immersive experiences such as exploring Victoria Falls National Park, walking through the Rainforest, and attending the renowned Boma Dinner and Drum Show. The group will also inspect top hotels and lodges to assess Zimbabwe's hospitality landscape, equipping them with firsthand knowledge to market the destination effectively.
Recognizing Asia's growing outbound tourism potential, the ZTA emphasized that Hong Kong alone is projected to generate an impressive $863.2 million in international travel spending by 2025. This initiative aligns with Zimbabwe's broader strategy to diversify its visitor base, ensuring a steady influx of tourists throughout the year.
The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry remains committed to reducing seasonality challenges by attracting new international markets while also fostering domestic tourism growth.

Turkey, Italy, France, Thailand emerge as top summer getaways by GCC : RateHawk
Post Views: 30 According to RateHawk, the top 10 outbound destinations for the entire summer include Turkey, Italy, France, Thailand, Spain, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, and the United States. The average transaction value for accommodation bookings is $1551, with an average stay of five nights. Although Indonesia didn't enter the top 10 most-booked outbound destinations, it has become one of the fastest-growing travel choices, showing a remarkable two-fold increase in bookings year-over-year, according to RateHawk. Traditionally, over half (53%) of these bookings are located in Bali, particularly in popular areas such as Ubud, Kuta, and Munduk. The visa-free policy and strong air connections with the GCC region, including a newly launched Saudia flight from Jeddah to Bali, continue to boost tourism to this tropical island. European destinations, with top choices in cultural capitals such as London, Paris, Milan, Munich, and Barcelona, remain a traditional favorite among GCC travelers seeking to escape the summer heat. The steady growth of tourism to Europe continues, driven by improved connectivity through the launch of new direct routes to popular destinations, including Saudia's flight to Venice and Flydubai's flights to various Greek resorts, such as Corfu, Santorini, and Mykonos. Thailand, another favourite Asian destination among GCC travelers, continues to show steady growth of 48% from last year, especially in areas like Bangkok and Phuket. Travelers heading to Asia typically choose longer stays, often up to one week in just one hotel. Serkan Ozbay, Regional Director in the Middle East region, commented: 'Summer season in the GCC region traditionally has two spikes in travel demand. The first peak aligns with the Eid Al-Adha holidays, which this year fall between 5 June and 9 June, with Dubai as the most popular choice for a staycation within the region and Istanbul as the most preferred outbound destination. The second peak coincides with the start of the local school break in late June and early July, with bigger interest in long-haul summer getaways to Europe and Asia. Whatever destination travelers prefer, RateHawk helps travel agents find attractive offers from our extensive global inventory of 2.7 million accommodations. Additionally, our consolidation strategy, which combines sourcing from over 320 wholesalers, 100 DMCs, and over 130,000 direct contracts, allows our partners to quickly adapt to growing interest in emerging destinations.'

Sharjah opens door to baseball championships
During the meeting, both sides explored avenues of cooperation to promote the sport and organise championships, in light of its significant popularity among Asian communities. The initiative also aims to add a new promotional platform for Sharjah, enhancing its regional and international presence through sports. A Global Brand with Regional Aspirations Baseball United was founded in November 2022 and supports 20 globally renowned teams, including the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox. As a recognised international brand, its championships attract millions of viewers around the world—in Asia, the United States, Canada, Japan, and Latin America. The organisation is now on its way to launching the first professional league involving teams from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Indian subcontinent. Foundations for the Game in Sharjah During the meeting, discussions were held on establishing a dedicated headquarters for the sport and developing baseball fields as a foundation for spreading the game. Plans include organising local competitions and hosting international championships in the future. The two sides also explored initiatives to launch youth academies and school programmes to scout talent, as well as leveraging the global league platform to market Sharjah as a sports, tourism, and educational destination for baseball. Sharjah's Competitive Edge Following the meeting, His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami emphasised that Sharjah possesses the right environment to promote baseball, especially considering its popularity among Asian communities. He pointed out that the sport shares many similarities with cricket—a game that already holds a distinguished position in the Emirate, thanks to its large fan base and the iconic Sharjah Stadium, which hosts international championships. He stressed that incorporating baseball and participating in the Asian league would ensure guaranteed promotion and significant exposure for the emirate. Optimism for a Fruitful Partnership The head of the visiting delegation expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of the Council for the warm welcome and the positive outcomes of the meeting. He also conveyed his optimism about the anticipated collaboration between the two sides and the transformative impact this partnership could have on the sport both locally and internationally.
