Fox buys Mexican sports broadcast platform Caliente TV
June 19 (UPI) -- Fox Corporation on Thursday said it has acquired Mexico's Caliente TV, a sports broadcasting platform.
Fox also said it has appointed Carlos Martinez as executive vice president and managing director to oversee Fox broadcasting strategy in Latin America.
"Fox's investment to acquire Caliente TV reflects our commitment to building a leading sports streaming business in Mexico with massive audience reach, a robust sports rights portfolio and an impressive roster of exclusive sports leagues and talent," Martinez said in statement.
Fox said this deal will lead to development of " a multi-platform business that will include the launch of a new Pay TV channel and an SVOD Platform that will join the existing AVOD platform Tubi, producing and distributing more than 3,000 hours of original sports content."
With the Caliente acquisition, Fox now has a premium broadcast rights portfolio that includes 6 Liga MX men's clubs; 10 Liga MX women's clubs; the CONCACAF Champions Cup; the Premier League and the FA Cup; UEFA Champions League; Ligue 1 France; Coppa Italia; the United Football League; Big Ten Conference; World Enduro Championship (WEC) and the NASCAR Mexico Series.
Fox said Martinez has over three decades broadcast industry experience in Latin America, including executive roles at Turner, Discovery and Fox.
The company said he will oversee operations and strategy for Fox platforms in Mexico and Central America.

Palace named a close-to-full-strength team against Fredrikstad and Eze was the standout omission, not even included among the substitutes. Widespread reports in the British media said Eze has agreed to a transfer to Arsenal, which has moved late in the summer window for a player who was reportedly close to joining north London rival Tottenham. It would take Arsenal's spending in this summer transfer window to around 250 million pounds ($335 million). Neither Palace nor Arsenal have commented publicly on any potential deal. Eze was a youth-team player with Arsenal before being released as a teenager. He started his professional career at second-tier Queens Park Rangers before moving to Palace in 2020, where he has become one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in the league and a regular in the England squad. He played at last year's European Championship. Last season, Eze scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final as Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 to qualify for European competition for the first time. When does the summer transfer window close?
The summer transfer window will close for Premier League, EFL and Scottish Premiership clubs at 19:00 BST on Monday 1 September. It opened for a second time this summer on Monday 16 June. The summer transfer window has been split in two this year, with the first part from 1-10 June. The early window allowed teams participating in the Club World Cup the chance to sign players before the tournament begins on 15 June. Fifa rules state a transfer window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, hence the split this summer. The transfer window, which normally closes at 23:00 BST, has been brought to an earlier closing time following an agreement between the Football Association, Premier League and EFL. It is in a move to bring people working in the world of football transfers to a more routine work schedule, as opposed to the later nights and unsociable hours that came with having a late night deadline. The windows in La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A all shut at the same time as the Premier League and EFL. The Women's Super League transfer window also closes on Thursday, 4 September.
