Elon Musk is at it again with the name and DP changes. The billionaire sparked intrigue by updating his X handle to ' Gorklon Rust ' on Sunday. This playful name seems to be in reference to "Grok", the AI chatbot from Musk's company xAI, and Rust, the programming language that is reportedly part of xAI's technical infrastructure. Musk also updated his profile picture to what appears to be a distorted version of the Grok logo.It could also be in reference to the meme coin 'Gorklon Rust' on the Solana blockchain, which is currently traded on decentralised platforms such as PumpSwap, Raydium, and Meteora. This is not the first time Musk has changed his name or profile picture on the social media platform he acquired in 2022. In December , he briefly adopted 'Kekius Maximus', possibly nodding to a meme-inspired cryptocurrency token, Kekius . The name is based on a lesser-known meme that combines the popular Pepe the Frog character with Maximus from Gladiator. This caused the coin to surge by over 500% within hours. The latest name change comes shortly after Musk on Saturday revealed an overhaul of X's recommendation algorithm, which will now incorporate artificial intelligence to improve the user experience.Musk wrote, "The X recommendation algorithm is being replaced with a lightweight version of @Grok, so will soon be dramatically better!."'You should notice some improvement already,' he added.

Donald Trump-Elon Musk fallout: A timeline of their topsy-turvy relationship

Donald Trump's relationship with Elon Musk has hit an all-time low following the Tesla CEO's criticism of the US President's new 'Big, Beautiful Bill'. The altercation between the 'besties' began late last month when the tech billionaire, in an interview, said that he was 'disappointed' to see the bill. 'I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing. I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don't know if it can be both,' Musk said, while speaking to CBS News. A few days later, Musk announced his exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), sparking a rift that escalated when he called the Americans to tell their representatives in Washington to 'kill the bill' after describing it as a 'disgusting abomination'. In no time, once Trump's staunch ally turned his 'disloyal foe', whom he warned of 'serious consequences' if he proceeded with plans to fund Democratic candidates opposing Republicans who support the GOP's sweeping tax-cut bill. The dramatic shift is not the first instance between the 'frenemies' as in 2016, Musk publicly said that Trump was not fit to run for the US President. A look at Musk and Trump's topsy-turvy relationship and how it transformed before the ultimate fallout: 2016 Musk in an interview with CNBC, expressed his disapproval of the then Republican candidate stating, 'I feel a bit stronger that he is not the right guy. He doesn't seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States,' throwing his weight behind Trump's presidential rival Hillary Clinton. 2017 However, it didn't take a month for Musk to change his mind as after Trump won the 2016 presidential elections, the tech mogul was appointed to an economic advisory council along with Uber CEO Travis Kalanick. Later, their relationship witnessed turbulent times when Trump decided to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords. Musk publicly voiced his disapproval, stating, 'Am departing presidential councils. Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.' 2022 In 2022, Trump called Musk a 'great guy' and one of the world's 'great geniuses', likening him to Thomas Edison. 'You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that came up with originally the light bulb and the wheel and all of these things. And he's one of our very smart people and we want to cherish those people,' said Trump in an interview with CNBC. 2023 Musk aligned his support with Trump's policies and openly backed US border wall with Mexico, which was the focus point at the time of the election campaign. 'We actually do need a wall, and we need to require people to have some shred of evidence to claim asylum to enter, as everyone is doing that…,' Musk said. March 2024 In March 2024, Musk declared that he would not make donations to candidates in the US presidential elections. However, it didn't take him long to flip his stance. July 2024 Months later, going back on his words, the tech billionaire donated over a quarter of a billion dollars to Trump's reelection bid after the then Republican candidate narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. August 2024 Musk hosted Trump for a conversation on his social media platform X, where he suggested that the then Republican candidate should come up with a commission that primarily focuses on 'government efficiency' and affirmed his commitment to serve in it. Days later, Musk, in a post on X, said, 'I am willing to serve.' I am willing to serve — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 20, 2024 September 2024 Trump declared that if he emerges victorious in the US presidential elections, he would set up a government efficiency commission, which would be helmed by Musk. October 2024 Musk joined Trump onstage for his rally at the site where Trump escaped an assassination attempt, donning a black 'Make America Great Again' cap. November 2024 The tech billionaire spent the election night at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida to witness and celebrate a sweeping Republican victory in the presidential elections. On November 16, Trump, alongside Musk, witnessed SpaceX's Starship launch. January 2025 Musk attended Trump's inauguration in Washington DC, where the newly elected US president said that he would 'pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts who plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars'. The tech giant, in a social media post on X, shared his approval of Trump's second term, stating, 'The Return of the King.' The Return of the King — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 20, 2025 February 2025 Musk went to the Oval Office with his son to mark Trump's signing of an executive order seeking to shrink the size of government through 'large-scale reductions' in the federal workforce. March 2025 Trump, in a bold statement of support for Musk, bought a sleek red Tesla, stating that he bought the car at full price, without any discount. 'Musk would give me a discount, but if I do a discount, they're gonna say, Oh, I got benefits,' he said. 'When I saw what was happening, I said that I want to buy a Tesla, and we just went to the front. He (Elon Musk) had four beautiful cars there, and I bought one in front of the press. It was a very public purchase, and they're beautiful and do a great job,' he said. Trump then called Musk a 'patriot' and said, 'He's done a great job… It's not that he's a Republican… Sometimes, I'm not even sure what he is in terms of his philosophy, but he's a great guy.' The move came after Musk's Tesla faced boycotts and plummeting stocks amid controversy surrounding his moves as Trump's aide. Get in, patriots—we have a country to save.🇺🇸@ElonMusk helps President Trump pick his new @Tesla! — The White House (@WhiteHouse) March 11, 2025 April 2025 The Tesla CEO vowed to 'significantly' reduce his involvement in DOGE over the coming weeks. May 2025 Musk stepped down from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after criticising Trump's newly introduced 'Big, Beautiful' spending bill. June 2025 The tech mogul sharply criticised the US president's spending bill, stating that it would further blow up federal budget deficits. 'Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,' he wrote on his social media platform X. The criticism rapidly devolved into a heated exchange between the two, with both sides trading sharp barbs for several hours. The spat turned ugly to an extent with Trump saying, 'Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore.' I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 3, 2025 In a blistering rebuttal, Musk said, 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate…Such ingratitude.' He also floated the idea of launching a new political party that 'actually represents the 80% in the middle.' Trump, for his part, hinted at retaliation by threatening to cancel Musk's government contracts. Responding to the allegations from Musk, Trump in a post on Truth Social wrote, 'I don't mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago.' Musk, on his part, however, deleted his controversial tweet claiming 'Trump is in the Epstein files' on Saturday, signalling a possible attempt to dial down the tension.

Trump vs Musk: Nasa, Pentagon rattled by ISS threat- officials warn space program caught in feud

Nasa logo, left, and Elon Musk (Image credits: AP) Nasa and the Pentagon moved quickly this past week to contact alternative spaceflight providers after a public spat between US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk raised new fears about the government's reliance on SpaceX . The situation escalated when Musk, responding to Trump's threat to cancel SpaceX contracts, said he would halt flights of the Dragon spacecraft, Nasa's only current vehicle for sending astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Though Musk later walked back the statement, it sent shockwaves through US space and defense agencies. Following the exchange, Nasa and the Pentagon contacted several commercial companies, including Rocket Lab, Stoke Space, and Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin, about the readiness of their launch systems, according to The Washington Post. Officials at Sierra Space, developing the Dream Chaser spaceplane, confirmed Nasa had reached out and emphasised the agency's interest in avoiding reliance on a single provider. Meanwhile, Boeing's Starliner, originally intended as a backup to Dragon, remains grounded due to technical problems. Officials at Nasa and the Pentagon were alarmed by what they viewed as a sudden and impulsive move, underscoring the vulnerability of depending on a single provider. SpaceX, which holds billions in government contracts, is responsible for ferrying cargo and crew to the ISS and launching some of the military's most sensitive satellites. One Nasa official described the moment as shifting 'from entertaining to terrifying,' while a Pentagon staffer noted, 'This is a real issue, not a TV show.' The feud also appeared to be fueled by the administration's withdrawal of Jared Isaacman's nomination as Nasa administrator. Isaacman, closely linked to Musk, had previously flown with SpaceX. Nasa has long worked closely with SpaceX, despite previous concerns about Musk's behavior. But the latest episode prompted renewed debate about whether critical systems like national missile defense and astronaut transport should be entrusted to a company, or person, capable of making such sweeping decisions unilaterally.

Elon Musk-Donald Trump fights, Nintendo Switch 2 launches, Apple WWDC looms, and other top tech news this week

The tech industry witnessed dramatic developments this week, from a spectacular public falling-out between President Trump and Elon Musk that threatens billions in federal subsidies, to Nintendo's Switch 2 console launch creating massive consumer frenzy with sold-out pre-orders. Meanwhile, Google CEO Sundar Pichai bucked industry trends by promising continued engineering hiring through 2026, even as Microsoft cut another 300 jobs following last month's 6,000-person layoff. Apple 's WWDC 2025 kicks off next week with anticipated major iOS and AI updates, while Meta secured a 20-year nuclear power deal to fuel its AI ambitions, highlighting the week's mix of corporate drama, product launches, and the ongoing AI transformation reshaping Big Tech. After friendship, Elon Musk and Donald Trump fights publicly After a friendship that began during Trump's 2024 presidential campaign when Musk publicly endorsed him following an assassination attempt, the relationship between President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has dramatically deteriorated into a public feud. Their alliance, which saw Musk appointed as co-lead of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after Trump's election victory, began unraveling in May 2025 when Musk criticized Trump's signature spending bill as a "disgusting abomination." The conflict exploded into the open on June 5, 2025, when the former allies exchanged a series of bitter insults on social media, with Musk claiming "Trump would have lost the election" without him and making explosive allegations about Trump's connection to Jeffrey Epstein , while Trump threatened to terminate billions in federal subsidies for Musk's companies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The public breakdown of their relationship reached a tipping point when Trump admitted during an Oval Office press conference that he was "very disappointed" in Musk and didn't know if their friendship could be salvaged, even reportedly deciding to sell the Tesla he had purchased just months earlier during their alliance. Google CEO Sundar Pichai says that he'll keep hiring engineers Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the tech giant will continue expanding its engineering workforce through 2026, positioning the company against widespread industry fears about AI-driven job displacement. Speaking at the Bloomberg Tech conference, Pichai emphasized that artificial intelligence serves as "an accelerator" rather than a replacement for human talent, enabling Google to pursue greater opportunities in emerging technology sectors like Waymo autonomous vehicles, quantum computing, and YouTube's global expansion. This hiring commitment stands in stark contrast to competitors like Microsoft, which have cut thousands of positions to fund AI investments, and even Google's own recent history of laying off 12,000 employees in 2023 with additional reductions following. Microsoft cuts 300 more jobs after laying off 6,000 employees last month Microsoft has eliminated over 300 additional jobs this week, just weeks after announcing 6,000 layoffs in what represents the company's second-largest workforce reduction since cutting 10,000 roles in 2023. While the specific departments affected in the latest round remain undisclosed, previous layoff patterns suggest software engineers and project managers are likely most impacted, as last month's cuts hit coding professionals hardest with over 40% of eliminated positions belonging to software engineers despite Microsoft's $80 billion AI infrastructure investment. CEO Satya Nadella has characterized these workforce reductions as a "realignment" rather than performance-based decisions, explaining it as "repositioning for what comes next" in the company's AI transformation, which now sees artificial intelligence writing up to 30% of code in some projects. The layoffs reflect broader industry trends as tech giants like Salesforce, Amazon, and Google implement flatter organizational structures and reduce engineering hiring due to AI adoption, with Microsoft's cuts occurring as the company continues investing billions in AI while employing approximately 228,000 full-time workers worldwide. Nintendo Switch 2 launches to sky-high demand and long queues Nintendo's highly anticipated Switch 2 launched earlier this week to massive consumer demand, with gaming fans lining up at electronics stores across Tokyo and pre-orders selling out within hours. The $499.99 console, featuring a larger screen and improved graphics compared to its predecessor, received 2.2 million lottery applications in Japan alone, while Target's pre-orders sold out in under two hours. Nintendo forecasts 15 million Switch 2 sales this financial year and has pledged to strengthen production capacity to meet overwhelming demand. With the original Switch selling 152 million units since 2017, analysts predict the new device could surpass 100 million sales by 2030, though supply shortages may persist for weeks or months as the company scales up manufacturing. OnePlus 13s, OnePlus Pad 3 launches OnePlus has launched two flagship devices in India, with the OnePlus 13s and the OnePlus Pad 3 tablet. The OnePlus 13s, priced starting at Rs 54,999, features a 6.32-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, while packing a 5,850mAh Silicon Carbon battery with 80W fast charging and a dual-camera setup with 50MP primary and telephoto lenses. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Pad 3 boasts a larger 13.2-inch 3.4K 144Hz display, also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with up to 16GB RAM, featuring eight speakers for immersive audio, a massive 12,140mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging, and priced at $699.99 (approximately Rs 60,070) for the base 12GB+256GB variant. Both devices run Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 and offer enhanced productivity features, with the OnePlus 13s available in Black Velvet, Pink Satin , and Green Silk colors, while the Pad 3 comes in Storm Blue and Frosted Silver, available in Europe from June 19th and North America from July 8th, with Indian availability confirmed soon across major platforms. Apple's annual developers conference, WWDC 25 starts next week Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is set to kick off next week from June 9-13 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, with the keynote scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on June 9 followed by the Platforms State of the Union Address at 1 p.m. PT. The event, which can be watched online via the Apple TV app, and Apple's YouTube channel, is expected to unveil major software updates including iOS 19 (or possibly iOS 26 according to rumors suggesting a numbering system change), iPadOS, macOS, and WatchOS. This year's conference is particularly anticipated for potential dramatic design overhauls across Apple's operating systems, with Bloomberg reporting that iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 will feature new icons and menus creating a more cohesive style reminiscent of VisionOS, while Apple is also expected to outline significant progress in artificial intelligence with enhanced Apple Intelligence features and Siri improvements, as the company seeks to compete with Google's Gemini and other AI offerings from Android vendors. Meta signs 20-year nuclear deal to power AI operations Meta has secured a 20-year nuclear power agreement with Constellation Energy to meet the growing energy demands of its artificial intelligence operations. The deal will expand output at Illinois' Clinton Clean Energy Center by 30 megawatts starting in June 2027, when the plant's current state-funded support program expires. This partnership will preserve 1,100 local jobs and generate $13.5 million in annual tax revenue while providing clean energy equivalent to powering a city of 30,000 residents. The agreement makes Meta the latest tech giant to turn to nuclear power for AI infrastructure, joining Microsoft, Amazon, and Google in similar partnerships as companies balance surging energy needs with greenhouse gas reduction goals.
