CARLSBAD, Calif. — After 54 holes of stroke play, the field of 30 teams at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's North Course is almost after Sunday evening's cut.

ESPN Reveals the Top College Football Play of the Last 25 Years
ESPN Reveals the Top College Football Play of the Last 25 Years originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There are some college football plays that stick around in fans' minds long after the final whistle blows. Advertisement ESPN ranked the top-25 plays since 2000 ahead of the 2025 season, listing some of the most memorable moments of the 21st century. Not surprisingly, the top of the list includes unlikely plays that led to championships. Ranked fourth is Alabama's improbable game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith in overtime of the 2018 national championship game against Georgia. Texas quarterback Vince Young's game-winning touchdown run against USC in the 2005 Rose Bowl ranks third. Boise State's "trickeration" in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma comes in at No. 2, with ESPN including both the fourth quarter "Hook and Ladder" play and the overtime "Statue of Liberty" call that helped propel the Broncos to victory. Advertisement Each of those plays were surprisingly successful in their own way, but one play since 2000 arguably sits above the rest: Auburn's "Kick Six" in the 2013 Iron Bowl against in-state rival Alabama. Alabama wide receiver Caleb Sims (29) grabs for Auburn cornerback Chris Davis (11) during the "Kick Six" play in 2013Amanda Sowards/Advertiser Some fourth-quarter chaos took place inside Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium to cap off the 2013 regular season. Coming off back-to-back national championships, head coach Nick Saban's Crimson Tide found themselves tied at 28 with 15 seconds remaining against the Tigers and head coach Gus Malzahn. Running back TJ Yeldon's 24-yard rush seemingly ran out the clock, but Alabama ultimately had a long field goal attempt after a review showed that Yeldon was pushed out of bounds with one second remaining. Advertisement Field goal kicker Cade Foster, who had missed three attempts that game, was replaced by Adam Griffith for the 57-yard try. And Griffith came up considerably short, giving Auburn defensive back Chris Davis a chance at a return. The rest is college football lore. "It's a play that will live in the hearts of Auburn fans, who can still hear the school's radio play-by-play announcer, the late Rod Bramblett, screaming 'Auburn's going to win the football game!' as Davis crossed the goal line," Chris Low wrote. Auburn fans went on to rush the field at Jordan-Hare Stadium after the No. 4 Tigers' unbelievable, last-second upset over then No. 1 Alabama. Advertisement The 2013 Iron Bowl remains as the last top-four matchup between the hated rivals and just so happens to feature one of the greatest plays in college football history. Auburn will host this year's Iron Bowl on Nov. 29 in an attempt to log its first win in the series since 2019. Simone Biles issues apology to Riley Gaines after online argument over transgender athletes turns personal
Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles issued an apology for getting 'personal' with former college swimmer Riley Gaines following their explosive online spat over transgender athletes in women's sports. The record-smashing gymnast said in a statement on X that she believes in competitive equality and inclusivity, but that the 'current system doesn't adequately balance' the two, leading to 'heated exchanges,' such as her war of words with Gaines. Advertisement 'I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. I've always believe competitive equality & inclusivity are both essential in sport. The current system doesn't adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn't help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for,' Biles wrote. The seven-time gold medalist noted she doesn't 'have the answers or solutions' to these issues, but believes 'it starts with empathy and respect.' The two got into a heated dispute last week when 25-year-old Gaines, best known for advocating against transgender athletes in women's sports, started posting on social media about a high school softball team in Minnesota that has a transgender pitcher. Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles apologized to former college swimmer Riley Gaines after they got into an explosive argument online over transgender athletes in sports. (Getty Images) Gaines commented on the team's social media comments being turned off, writing, 'To be expected when your star player is a boy.' Advertisement A fired-up Biles, 28, charged back: 'You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race.' Gaines tied for fifth place with transgender woman Lia Thomas in the 200m freestyle swimming at the 2022 NCAA Championships. 'Straight up sore loser,' Biles continued. 'You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' 'Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male,' Biles added in a second post. Gaines quickly shot back, writing: 'This is actually so disappointing. It's not my job or the job of any woman to figure out how to include men in our spaces. You can uplift men stealing championships in women's sports with YOUR platform. Men don't belong in women's sports and I say that with my full chest.' Advertisement Gaines has been actively campaigning for policies that restrict transgender women from competing in female sports categories since tying with Thomas in 2022. Biles concluded her post by saying that she believes sports organizations 'have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition.' 'We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful,' Biles concluded. In her own post, Gaines accepted Biles' apology and stated, 'I welcome you to the fight to support fair sports and a future for female athletes. Little girls deserve the same shot to achieve that you had.'

Auburn baseball catcher Cale Stricklin announces plans to enter transfer portal
Auburn baseball catcher Cale Stricklin announces plans to enter transfer portal The sophomore played in 20 games over the last two seasons at Auburn. A reserve catcher is moving on after spending two seasons in an Auburn uniform. Cale Stricklin, a sophomore from Watkinsville, Georgia, is departing Auburn after signing with the program ahead of the 2024 season. He announced Monday on social media that he is entering the transfer portal after playing two seasons in the orange and blue. Stricklin played in 20 games over the last two seasons, including six games during the 2025 season. In that span, he built a career average of .243 with five extra-base hits and eight RBI. He played in two games against Holy Cross in February, three games in March, and made his last appearance April 5 against Alabama. Last season, he recorded four at-bats with zero hits and a walk. Playing time became tough for Stricklin to grab at Auburn. Freshman Chase Fralick won the starting catcher role and became a key piece to the Auburn lineup by hitting .335 with four home runs and 41 RBI. Fralick's occupying of the catcher role pushed Ike Irish out of his primary position of catcher and into the outfield. Fralick is set to return, and Auburn has signed a catcher to its 2025 class, Taylor Belza of Grafton, Ohio. Lucas Steele, who played outfield and served as a designated hitter for the Tigers in 2025, is also a catcher and could be used should an emergency arise. To fill needs left behind by several players at key positions, Auburn has added five players from the transfer portal since the final out of the 2025 season, including Texas State infielder Ryne Farber and Western Kentucky pitcher Drew Whalen.
