Williams open to managing Newport full time

Newport County caretaker boss Dafydd Williams is not ruling himself out of the running for the job full-time, saying he wants to stay at the club "in whatever capacity".
Williams was placed in temporary charge for the final two games of the season following the departure of Nelson Jardim.

The 32-year-old will lead Newport in their final fixture of the 2024-25 League Two campaign against Tranmere Rovers at Rodney Parade on Saturday, 3 May (15:00 BST).
Williams says it has been an "honour" to manage the side, and is ready to step into the role on a permanent basis if he is asked.
"Well, I 100% trust in my ability and my capabilities as a coach and a head coach," said Williams when asked if he felt he could do the top job.
"Equally, I want the right person to manage this football club. The club deserves that, the fans deserve that.
"Whatever capacity it is, I would love to stay. I've had a really good two years here."

Williams has been on the coaching staff at Newport since former boss Graham Coughlan brought him in from Bristol Rovers.
He says he has not spoken to chairman Huw Jenkins about next season but feels the club need to appoint a new boss as soon as possible.
"I think it goes without saying that the earlier, the better," he said. "It gives that person more time.
"I have no doubt the chairman and other people behind the scenes are working hard to find the right person."
County, 21st in League Two, hope to end a disappointing season on a high by securing their first win in nine games, with Williams urging his team to get the fans' "juices flowing" ahead of next season.

FORMER U'S: Striker signs two-year deal with League One newcomers

FORMER Colchester United striker Brandon Hanlan has joined League One newcomers Doncaster Rovers. The 28-year-old has signed for the reigning League Two champions on a two-year deal, following his exit from Wycombe Wanderers after four years at Adams Park. Advertisement Hanlan told the Doncaster website: "For me it is about being somewhere that you're wanted. 'Speaking to the manager about the way he plays and wants to play and for myself it's about being in a team that creates chances and do well. 'The gaffer has had nothing but good things to say about myself but also the club and the players so at the end of the day it was a no-brainer for me.' Hanlan made 20 league and cup appearances for Colchester after joining them on loan from Charlton, in the 2017-18 season. The forward, who has recently been on loan at Stevenage, scored twice in his first three appearances for the U's but failed to net after that and then struggled to claim a place in John McGreal's starting line-up. Advertisement Hanlan has since gone on to make nearly 250 appearances at League One level, scoring 48 times in those matches. Former Colchester United attacker signs for Scottish club Doncaster boss Grant McCann told the club's website: 'He's someone who has annoyed me whenever I've come up against him. 'Brandon brings his energy, his pressing, his aggression. 'Our front three has to run and work. They start every line of defence for us in terms of what they do. 'Brandon brings that first and foremost and now it's up to us to get him into goalscoring positions. "We create chances, this team will create chances for Brandon and we need to get him between the posts to take them.'

Billy Napier earned the commitment of Buchholz (Fla.)'s Justin Williams on Sunday, bolstering the Florida Gators' future receiving room. Advertisement "BREAKING: Four-Star WR Justin Williams has Committed to Florida, he tells me for @on3recruits," Hayes Fawcett wrote Sunday on X. "The 6'0 190 WR from Gainesville, FL chose the Gators over Florida State, Kentucky, Missouri, & Indiana. 'From the Backyard to The Swamp #GoGators." Williams is listed as the No. 15 overall athlete in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. "New-age offensive weapon that was a full-time wide receiver, but has since made the transition to running back and will likely get a bulk of his snaps there moving forward as he's a rhythmic mover with excellent contact balance that can string cuts together and extend runs," 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote in a scouting report. "Likely to find most success in a single-back spread attack that wants to target him out of the backfield." Advertisement Williams was a finalist for Florida's Class 6A Mr. Football award. He was chosen as The Gainesville Sun's All-Area Big School Offensive Player of the Year after catching 85 passes for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 108 more times for 1,023 yards and 16 touchdowns. Williams had also visited the Indiana Hoosiers recently.
