Mamelodi Sundowns to announce new deal

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga won't be changing his club colours anytime soon. The Betway Premiership champions have reportedly decided to keep the 30-year-old Zimbabwean for another year.
Lunga made his dream move to the big time when he signed for Sundowns in July 2021 from fellow Premier Soccer League side Golden Arrows.
Since then, Lunga, who plays his football as a left-back, has played 41 matches for Sundowns, which included three goals and eight assists. Divine Lunga pushes his limits at Chloorkop. Image: Masandawana/X.
'Mamelodi Sundowns have exercised the option in the contract of Zimbabwe international defender Divine Lunga till June 2026,' iDiski Times reported.
'Information gathered by this publication states that Sundowns exercised the option they had in Lunga's contract. He is expected to be with the club until June 2026 with his focus now firmly on the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA next month,' the report added.

And so the courting continues . . . Mamelodi Sundowns spurned again as CAF glory slips through their fingers

Mamelodi Sundowns lost the CAF Champions League final 3-2 on aggregate on Sunday night to Pyramids. Photo: BackpagePix Image: Backpagepix The flirting game must continue unabated for Mamelodi Sundowns. The Brazilians must keep courting the CAF Champions League – as their former coach Rulani Mokwena once suggested – until the belle of continental football agrees to walk down the aisle. She agreed to the lobola negotiations this time around, but the uncles baulked at the offer for their niece, leaving Sundowns to return home and strategise once more. It is a painful way to be rejected, but they'll be encouraged by the fact that they were at least allowed through the gate. Video Player is loading. This will surely feel even more painful than that 4–1 defeat to Al Ahly back in 2001, when they were thoroughly played off the park in the second leg, having drawn 1–1 at home – just as was the case this time around. This defeat, as they will realise when they inspect the wreckage at June 30 Stadium, was largely self-inflicted. The opening goal they conceded was a gift – Grant Kekana, inexplicably, passed the ball to Fiston Mayele of all players, when a simple clearance would have sufficed. The Congolese forward is a supreme goal-poacher and, unsurprisingly, he made no mistake, slotting home his ninth of the campaign to claim the golden boot with ease. Even before the ball entered the Sundowns box, Mayele had been allowed to launch a dangerous move down the right and combine with Atto, who was then given ample space to deliver what appeared to be an innocuous cross – until Kekana's tame clearance turned it into a lethal assist. Being champions is a state of mind! Stay tuned for the #TotalEnergiesCAFCL champions official photoshoot! 🔜 — TotalEnergies CAFCL & CAFCC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) June 1, 2025 Sundowns should have equalised before the break thanks to the genius of Lucas Ribeiro, who threaded a sublime through-ball to set up Tashreeq Matthews one-on-one with Mahmoud El Shenawy. But instead of lobbing the advancing goalkeeper, Matthews tried to slide it past him, only for the veteran – who was in the Zamalek team defeated by Sundowns in the 2016 final – to block with his outstretched left leg. It was more a miss than a save, and the reactions of Ribeiro and the Sundowns bench said it all – the Brazilian hopping madly as the bench ran off with hands on their heads in disbelief. Sundowns were made to pay early in the second half, as Sami made it 2–0. Once again, it was self-inflicted. Substitute Divine Lunga needlessly conceded a free-kick on the edge of the area, and his teammates defended the resulting set piece like Sunday league amateurs, allowing Sami a free header for his first goal of this year's Champions League. THEORY: Real reason why Orlando Pirates didn't win the league

Orlando Pirates came short in their push for the Betway Premiership title. There were a few factors, but one isn't talked about enough. When Thabiso Sesane was cut down with a serious injury, nobody knew how profound an effect that event would have on Pirates' title charge. On paper, central defence is arguably the team's deepest resource with Tapelo Xoki, Olisa Ndah and Nkosinathi Sibisi as options. However, Ndah has battled injuries and both Xoki and Sibisi have suffered dips in form. The late-season emergence of an outstandingly gifted teenager, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, has been a huge boost, but none of the club's existing centre-halves have Sesane's unique skill set. The 25-year-old was quietly and effectively becoming the marshal of Pirates' back four. It's hoped that he'll be fit in time for the early stages of the 2025-2026 campaign. What did Makgopa and Mabasa do to offend Hugo Broos? Thabiso Sesane at the Orlando Stadium. Image: @orlandopiratesfc/X One X user said: 'Do not touch King Hotto,' presumably suggesting that the club would be foolish to release the versatile 34-year-old Deon Hotto. The Namibian is still a dependable player and popular among fans and teammates, and managers, comfortable in several positions and tactical systems. Since joining from Wits in 2020, club stalwart Hotto has notched up over 200 appearances, collecting six trophies. To say he's an underrated performer is a massive understatement. Broos explains why he likes Orlando Pirates star Selepe Is Sesane the best central defender in South Africa when fit? Let us know by leaving a comment below or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Three PSL players who need a fresh start this off-season

Sipho Mbule could do with a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix The PSL premier domestic season has come to an end. As a result, a number of player movements are expected during the off-season transfer window. Clubs will be eager to offload underperforming players and bring in fresh talent to help them achieve their aspirations in the new campaign, which is set to get underway in August. That's why Independent Media's Mihlali Baleka looks at three players who must leave their current clubs and seek greener pastures. It is always sad when you see someone with such a talent like Sipho Mbule throwing it away with alcohol. Sekhukhune United have repeatedly released Sipho Mbule due to misconduct. Mbule allegedly arrived at training under the influence of alcohol. 😏 — m a s h è s h a 💨 (@_mashesha) May 6, 2025 Video Player is loading. Sundowns loaned him to Sekhukhune United last season. Although he started well, reports soon emerged that he had been suspended before being officially released. He has since returned to his parent club in recent weeks, but with his contract expiring in June, it appears unlikely that he will sign a new deal at Sundowns. .@sphe_mkhulise is your Man of the Match for today after another masterful performance in midfield! 🏆 Well played, Blesser! 🙌#Sundowns #DownsLive #DStvPrem — Mamelodi Sundowns FC (@Masandawana) May 2, 2021 Sphesihle Mkhulise – Mamelodi Sundowns Mkhulise rose to prominence after being promoted to the senior team by then-coach Pitso Mosimane a few years ago. However, following Mosimane's departure, his influence faded as he struggled for consistency under former coaches Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi, and now under incumbent coach Miguel Cardoso. Having made just 23 appearances this season—mostly as a substitute—Mkhulise would benefit from finding a club where he can become a regular starter and revive his career. ⏰ 𝕊ℂ𝕆ℝ𝔼 𝕌ℙ𝔻𝔸𝕋𝔼 Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo has stretched the margin for The Sea Robbers!
