Honolulu advances to Little League World Series with win over Fullerton Golden Hill

The Little League team from Honolulu has a chance to become a three-time world champion.
Winners of the Little League World Series in 2018 and 2022, the team from Hawaii earned a spot in this year's World Series on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over Fullerton Golden Hill in San Bernardino. They will travel to Williamsport, Pa., where the World Series begins on Wednesday.
Golden Hill's only two losses came to Honolulu, including a 1-0 loss to start the tournament. It was the first time in the league's 69-year history that a team had advanced to the West Region final.
Pitcher Bron Fermahin took advantage of his team scoring three runs in the first two innings by throwing lots of strikes. He had eight strikeouts through the first four innings and finished with 11 in 5⅔ innings before Golden Hill pushed across a run with two outs in the sixth.
Lincoln Ploog of Golden Hill was brought in to pitch with two outs in the first inning. He hit three batters but finished with 10 strikeouts in 4⅓ innings.
Honolulu scored two runs in the first on an RBI single from Evan Crawford and a bases-loaded hit batter. An RBI double in the second by Kuana Payanai provided a 3-0 lead. Mason Mitani hit a home run in the fifth. Golden Hill scored a run in the sixth. Fermahin had to leave because of pitch count with two outs in the sixth. Mitani came in to get the final out, catching a broken-bat line drive.
Golden Hill showed off two future standouts in Ploog and infielder Gavin Janicke, who came in with four hits in eight at-bats. Janicke struck out 14 in a win on Wednesday and wasn't eligible to pitch Thursday.

Phillies Predicted To Cut Ties With Versatile 30-Year-Old Despite Recent Surge

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Philadelphia Phillies are primed for a World Series push this season. They have as much talent as ever, with Kyle Schwarber leading the way on offense and Zack Wheeler leading the pitching staff. With a few injured stars set to return from the injured list in the near future, the Phillies could have a bit of a roster crunch in the coming weeks. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently predicted the Phillies would cut ties with (or potentially option) veteran utilityman Weston Wilson when Alec Bohm returns from injury. CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 11: Weston Wilson #37 of the Philadelphia Phillies hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on August 11, 2025 in Cincinnati,... CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 11: Weston Wilson #37 of the Philadelphia Phillies hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on August 11, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Edmundo Sosa #33 of the Philadelphia Phillies scores. More"Bohm will be the team's everyday third baseman when he returns, thus creating a platoon at second base with Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott, and creating a competition for who will platoon with Max Kepler in left field," Rotman wrote. "Both Otto Kemp and Weston Wilson have spent time in that role this season, and while Wilson has performed well since his recall after the All-Star break, it'd be tough for them to send Kemp back down to Triple-A. "Kemp's overall numbers might not be stellar, but he's slashing .268/.362/.463 with two of his four big league home runs against southpaws this season. His .825 OPS against lefties suggests he'd be an ideal platoon partner with Kepler, and Wilson simply hasn't outperformed him this season." It's more likely that the Phillies will option Wilson rather than designate him for assignment or release him. Still, Otto Kemp makes slightly more sense as a platoon option with Max Kepler, so it's more like the Phillies will keep Kemp rather than Wilson on the roster. It's going to be a tough decision to make, especially since Wilson has played well recently. If he can stay hot for the next few days, there's a chance it's Kemp who's demoted instead. Phillies Predicted To Demote Young Pitcher When Jose Alvarado Returns

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The entire Philadelphia Phillies season was flipped on its head earlier in the year when closer Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games and the postseason following a failed drug test. The Phillies responded by trading for closer Jhoan Duran to take Alvarado's place, but now, the star lefty is nearing a big league return. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently suggested the Phillies could option Max Lazar to Triple-A when Alvarado returns from suspension in the near future. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 08: Max Lazar #60 of the Philadelphia Phillies pitches during the ninth inning against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on August 08, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 08: Max Lazar #60 of the Philadelphia Phillies pitches during the ninth inning against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on August 08, 2025 in Arlington, Texas."All of a sudden, the Phillies' bullpen has gone from a weakness to a potential strength. Jose Alvarado's return from the restricted list is bound to only make that strength even stronger," Rotman wrote. "Alvarado won't be on the team's postseason roster, and there are questions about how he'll perform after his PED suspension, but he'll get a chance to pitch down the stretch for the Phillies regardless, forcing Philadelphia to send someone down. Max Lazar is an easy candidate to be that guy. "Lazar is one of four Phillies relievers who can be optioned, and Philadelphia won't be demoting any of Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering or Tanner Banks to make room for Alvarado. Sending him down is the easiest and most logical move they can make when Alvarado is ready to go on August 19." Lazar is the obvious move to make when Alvarado returns. The righty isn't going to win the World Series for the Phillies, and he has options left on his contract. He's a solid innings-eater with a bright future in the big leagues, but the Phillies need as many high-leverage arms as possible in their bullpen. Lazar doesn't fit that mold as of now. It should be expected, barring an unforeseen injury, that Lazar ends the season in Triple-A. More MLB: Yankees Aaron Boone Provides Critical Aaron Judge Injury Update
