"I really thought that was my last moment," she said about the terrifying experienceA college student is grateful to be alive after getting caught up in a tornado while she was driving last week.
Mya Grimes, a rising senior at Jackson State University in Mississippi, was on her way to St. Louis, her hometown, when a tornado tore through the city and threw her out of her car on Friday, May 16.
The 20-year-old college student had nearly reached her home when the storm caught up to her, according to ABC-affiliate WAPT.
"I really thought that was my last moment," she told the outlet.
Grimes said that the tornado broke the windows of her car and opened the driver's side door. Even though she said she was wearing a seat belt, she was ejected from the vehicle and "slid down the street 40 yards."
Before the storm reached her, the student talked to her dad — who cautioned her to be careful, but get home if she could — according to local station KMOV. She also called her mom, Tina Grimes, but then her phone disconnected.
'When I answered the phone, I just wasn't prepared for what I heard on the other end," Tina told the outlet. After asking her daughter what was going on, to her terror, her daughter replied, "'It's taking me.' "
"My car started spinning in circles and spinning in circles, and I was just literally terrified and holding on to my steering wheel for dear life," Mya told NBC affiliate KSDK. "The door opened and I flew out of my car."
The student said that she was able to cling to a light pole as the gusts continued.

In an Instagram post detailing her "near-death experience," Mya said that the paramedic she was able to flag down afterwards told her she was 'lucky to be alive.'
'I have gashes from the glass and sliding down the street," Mya wrote alongside images of the damage to her car. Fortunately, despite some minor injuries, she was otherwise unharmed.
She went on to share that the incident has given her a new perspective that 'any moment could be our last."
According to the National Weather Service, an EF3 tornado touched down in Clayton, Mo., and moved through the northern parts of St. Louis on May 16. It had winds up to 152 miles per hour.

Jet-Set CEO's $3M Koenigsegg Jesko Ticketed in London While Dining Nearby

Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A £2.2 million Koenigsegg Jesko hypercar, owned by private jet mogul Ameerh Naran, was slapped with a parking ticket this week after being left on a Kensington street while its owner dined nearby. Naran, the CEO of luxury aviation brokerage Vimana Private Jets, parked the ultra-rare Swedish hypercar on Derry Street, just outside the trendy Dishoom restaurant in West London. Moments later, a Kensington and Chelsea traffic warden issued a bright yellow parking charge notice (PCN), placing it squarely on the carbon-fiber bonnet of the car—an image quickly shared online. With a fine of up to £160 (reduced to £80 if paid within two weeks), the penalty is a small price to pay compared to the Jesko's jaw-dropping $3 million valuation. Powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the Jesko produces 1,280 horsepower on standard fuel—or up to 1,600 hp on E85—and is capable of reaching 62 mph in under three seconds. According to his Instagram posts, Naran, 39, was enjoying lunch at the nearby Rooftop Gardens while the parking incident unfolded. Originally from Zimbabwe, the entrepreneur built his jet charter empire after studying automotive design, and later launched his own hypercar company, Naran Automotive. Despite his aviation focus, cars have remained central to Naran's identity. A former aspiring racing driver, he once told Forbes that he dreamed of building supercars since childhood. His clients—ranging from royals to ultra-high-net-worth individuals—spend up to $1 million a month on private travel, and often shop at elite brands like Harrods, Ferrara Diamonds, and Asprey London. This isn't the first luxury car to run afoul of Derry Street's strict parking rules. Comedian Michael McIntyre had his £195,000 Mercedes-AMG GT R towed from the same location in May after parking in a police-only zone. In a city where even multi-million-dollar cars can't escape traffic enforcement, it seems not even the most elite wheels are above the rules. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter

Elon Musk's estranged daughter has brutal reaction to Trump feud: ‘I love being proven right'

Elon Musk's estranged daughter appeared to gloat Friday about her billionaire dad's epic public feud with President Trump — saying 'I love being proven right' and cackling with glee on social media. Vivian Wilson, 21 — who vowed to leave the US after Trump was elected president last year — seemingly mocked her tech mogul dad's explosive fallout with his former president ally in an Instagram post. 'I do not want to comment,' she says before howling in a fit of laughter. Instagram/vivllainous The nasty fight between the world's richest man and the world's most powerful man quickly spiraled — with Musk calling for Trump's impeachment and declaring that the president has links to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Advertisement Wilson's post came as the feud simmered Thursday, but it didn't specifically mention Trump or her father by name. It's captioned, 'I love being proven right.' Wilson, who is transgender, cut ties with the increasingly volatile Tesla founder in 2022 when she filed a petition to change her gender and name. She has previously bashed Trump's 'anti-trans regulations' and called her dad, who supported the president's 2024 campaign, a 'pathetic man-child,' who hasn't been accepting of her gender. 3 Former allies Trump and Musk faced off in an epic public spat Thursday. Trump has no plans to call Musk, White House says after feud

The White House squashed speculation that Donald Trump and Elon Musk would patch up their stunning public feud, saying the US president had no plans to call his billionaire former aide Friday. Trump lobbed fresh insults at the South African-born Musk a day after the fiery implosion of their unlikely political marriage, saying the tech tycoon had "lost his mind." In a telling symbol of how their relationship had deteriorated, the president was even considering selling or giving away a Tesla he had bought to show support for Musk amid protests against the company. The row exploded on Thursday when Trump said he was "very disappointed" by Musk and threatened to end his government contracts, after his ex-aide criticized the president's flagship budget bill as an "abomination." Reports had emerged that Musk and Trump would speak by phone on Friday in a bid to patch up the damaging public row, but the White House scotched such speculation. "The president does not intend to speak to Musk today," a senior White House official told AFP on condition of anonymity when asked if the feuding pair planned to speak. Trump told broadcaster ABC in a phone call earlier Friday that he was "not particularly interested" in talking to Musk. "You mean the man who has lost his mind?" ABC quoted Trump as saying. Trump, who once called Musk a "genius", branded him "crazy" on social media on Thursday. - Fallout - The row could have major political and economic fallout, as shares in Musk's Tesla car company seesaw and the SpaceX boss vowed that he would end a critical US spaceship program. The White House called a special meeting on Thursday to discuss how to handle the crisis with Musk, a government source told AFP on condition of anonymity. Trump meanwhile may ditch the red Tesla that he bought from Musk's firm at the height of their relationship. The electric vehicle was still parked on the White House grounds on Friday. "He's thinking about it, yes," the senior White House official told AFP when asked if Trump would sell or give away the Tesla. Trump and Musk had posed inside the car at a bizarre event in March, when the US president turned the White House into a pop-up Tesla showroom after protests against Musk's government role tanked the firm shares. Speculation had long swirled that a relationship between two big egos like the president and the tycoon could not last long -- but the speed of the meltdown took Washington by surprise. Trump said in a televised Oval Office diatribe on Thursday that he was "very disappointed" after his former top donor criticized his "big, beautiful" spending bill before Congress. The pair then hurled insults at each other on social media -- with Musk even posting, without proof, that Trump was referenced in government documents on disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. dk/bgs
