Rs 181cr STP project cancelled in Ahmedabad's Sarkhej, re-tendering ordered

Time of India5 days ago
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's water and sewerage committee has cancelled a major sewage treatment project worth Rs 181.45 crore following concerns over the contractor's performance record.
In a committee meeting held on Monday, the officials decided to cancel the proposal to construct a sewage pumping station and sewage treatment plant (STP) on 40,000 sq m of land in the Fatehwadi area of Sarkhej ward. The committee has now directed that fresh tenders be issued for the project.
The contractor was previously given a work order to construct the Jaspur water treatment plant, but it delayed the work by a year.
Moreover, there were quality issues, prompting a vigilance inquiry. So, it was decided to cancel the existing proposal.
Water and sewerage committee chairman Dilip Bagaria said, "We are constructing a new water treatment facility alongside the Rs 100-crore Jaspur water treatment plant, work on which has been delayed by a year. Initially, we considered giving the contract for the Rs 181 crore STP project to the same company that is working on the Jaspur facility."

We have ordered a fresh tendering process," he added. The cancelled project was intended to address sewage treatment needs in Sarkhej area.
