Sabah begins offering scholarships for foundation, matriculation and A-level students
"Apart from that, the scholarship allowance for all sponsored students currently studying in public and private universities will also be standardised," he said.
He said the initiative was part of BKNS's ongoing commitment to support the development of education in the state to ensure that more promising students gain access to higher education.
Speaking at the Sabah Excellence Scholarship Award presentation ceremony at the Sabah International Convention Centre here on Monday (July 21), Hajiji said this year, the State Government has allocated the highest amount for scholarships compared to previous years.
"From only RM50mil in 2020, the BKNS allocation has continued to increase year by year over the past five years, reaching RM136mil in 2025.
"This marks an increase of RM86mil from 2019, reflecting the state government's commitment to supporting the education of Sabah's children," he added.
Hajiji said that the state government had made significant investments to implement various initiatives to develop education in the state, benefiting 13,550 students from 2021 to 2024.
Meanwhile, he noted that the Sabah Foundation Group's commitment was evident, with an allocation of RM67.17mil for the education sector last year, benefiting 3,234 students.
"It represented a significant increase of 148.96% compared to only RM26.98mil in 2020, he said, adding that some 10,104 recipients benefited from the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS) that he had launched in June 2022, involving a total expenditure of RM15.8mil.
The Chief Minister also disclosed that under the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) Zakat and Fitrah division, more than 48,000 students across Sabah have benefited over the past five years, with a total expenditure of RM92.4mil.
Hajiji said the initiative will help to improve the education standards of Sabah's children and support the development of quality human capital.
"We will continue to ensure that the people's well-being is always protected and given due attention, regardless of their background.
"We want them to explore professional fields such as oil, gas and energy, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), as well as artificial intelligence (AI), to produce highly skilled and quality individuals from Sabah across various sectors," he added.

According to Hajiji, the leader's comment, declaring himself as 'the Master,' signalled a clear disregard for the Borneo Bloc's aspirations and Sabah's role in shaping its future. Speaking during the Gagasan Rakyat AGM on Sunday, Hajiji, who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman and Gagasan Rakyat President, said the incident led to deep reflection and eventually convinced him that change was needed for the sake of Sabah. He said the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had taken Sabah's longstanding concerns seriously, particularly those related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Hajiji stressed that GRS backs the current government because it respects Sabah's dignity and has begun to deliver on long-overdue commitments such as the devolution of powers. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A federal leader's disdain for the proposed 'Borneo Bloc' political cooperation led Gabungan Rakyat Sabah into supporting Anwar Ibrahim's formation of the unity government after the 2022 general election, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said today. Speaking at the annual convention of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, he said a former federal leader, whom he did not name, had dismissed the idea of Bornean cooperation. 'I was with Masidi Manjun and Jeffrey Kitingan in a meeting with a big leader over there (in Peninsular Malaysia) at the time. The person said they were the masters. He did not like the Borneo Bloc. He did not want us to share our experiences and stories with our neighbouring state of Sarawak,' he said. 'I was shocked by his words. I thought about them for a long time. What did they mean? What was his intent? As I thought about it, I lost heart (tawar hati) in these people,' he said in a video of his speech published on Facebook by Sabah Media. Hajiji said it was after much thought that he finally decided that GRS would support the unity government being formed by Anwar. Since then, he said Anwar's government 'has listened to our voices, and we have been treated well', and reiterated that GRS remained in support of the prime minister. Hajiji said many of Sabah's demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 were approved by Anwar, as opposed to previous leaders who found difficulty in devolving power to the state. 'So what are we hoping for? If the unity government is good for our state, why shouldn't we support it?' he said. In March, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said the unity government had successfully resolved nine key claims related to MA63, including power to regulate gas supply in Sabah, the administration of the judiciary in Sabah and Sarawak, and guidelines on land reserved for federal purposes in the two states.

GRS Reaffirms Support For MADANI Government- Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU, July 27 (Bernama) -- Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) reaffirms its support for the MADANI Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says its chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Hajiji, who is also the Chief Minister, said this was because many of Sabah's demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) had been approved and implemented for the benefit of the people, leaving no reason for GRS not to support the MADANI Government. 'I would like to reiterate that GRS remains supportive of the Prime Minister.
