Gangamma Jathara: Devotees offer prayers with Sunnapukundalu Vesham
Tirupati: On the sixth day of Tatayyagunta Gangamma Jathara the devotees offered prayers to Gangamma in Sunnapukundalu Vesham on Monday.
Following the age-old custom, devotees anoint their body with white paste and apply dots with charcoal and carry a pot (Veyyi kalla Dutta) on their head.
Upon reaching the temple they go around the temple three times carrying the pot on their head. Then they leave the pot in the temple after the third round and go for darshan of the godess.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements were on to cope with the heavy rush of devotees expected on this day of the week-long Gangamma Jathara on Tuesday.
Late on the last night, i.e. Viswaroopa darshanam of the goddess, it is most auspicious by the devotees.
In the late night after the Viswaroopa darshanam, a huge clay idol of Gangamma will be smashed before the temple marking the end of the week-long Gangamma Jathara.

‘Viswaroopa Darshan' brings curtains on Tirupati Gangamma Jatara
Tirupati's annual folk festival, the Thathayagunta Gangamma Jatara, came to a grand conclusion in the early hours of Wednesday with the traditional smashing of the clay idol of Goddess Gangamma, marking the end of the nine-day celebrations. As per custom, temple authorities installed a huge clay idol at the entrance of the shrine, which is worshipped throughout the festival. On the final day, during the pre-dawn ritual, priests performed harathi—'Viswaroopa Darshan'—to' the idol and then ceremonially destroyed it. Thousands of devotees gathered in front of the shrine to witness the moment. The idol's eyes, which are deliberately carved in a squinted position, were momentarily adjusted to look straight— a symbolic act after which the priests immediately destroyed the idol to prevent any casualties. According to tradition, it is believed that the eyes of the goddess are so powerful that her focused gaze could burn down an entire area. Elders recall instances of a fire mishap that occurred during this phase of the ritual, reinforcing the belief. When the priest destroyed the idol, the clay pieces scattered in all directions. Devotees eagerly collected the broken pieces as sacred keepsakes.

Corporation chief and deputy mayors presented ‘sare' to goddess Gangamma
Tirupati: The commissioner Narapureddy Mourya presented sareee on behalf of Tirupati municipal Corporation on Monday to goddess Gangamma, on Jathara. The commissioner accompanied by Deputy Mayors Mudra Narayana, RC Munikrishna, senior officials and corporators came in a procession from the corporation office to the accompaniment of traditional music to the temple for presenting saree. She along with senior officials presented saree to temple priests Murali Swamy and Ramakrishna and had darshan. She said she prayed the goddess to shower her blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Tirupati. Commissioner said the corporation, police and other departments are fully geared up for the Viswaroopa darshanam of goddess which will be last day of Jathara on Tuesday. Additional Commissioner Charan Tej Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Amariah, Superintendent Engineer Shyam Sunder, Revenue Officer Sethumadhav were also present.
