Stafford man faces strangulation charges following disturbance in Willington
WILLINGTON — A man from Stafford is facing multiple charges following a disturbance that took place earlier this week.
Troopers from Troop C-Tolland responded to a business on Ruby Road in Willington for a report of an active disturbance early Tuesday morning.
When the Troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered that a male involved had left and was likely returning to his home in Stafford.
One Trooper proceeded to the residence to wait for the male, who was later identified as Korey Barton, 22.
Not long after, a gray Honda CRV was seen coming into the residence's driveway and matched the description of Barton, who was involved in the disturbance.
According to state police, Barton said he had engaged in a verbal argument with a female but denied any physical contact. Barton claimed he left and got a ride home when the argument escalated.
At the same time, other troopers spoke with the female involved, who described having a verbal argument with Barton. According to the female, Barton grabbed her by the shoulders and forcefully threw her to the ground.
She then explained that Barton began to strangle her, making it difficult to breathe. After a brief struggle, Barton let her go, and she could grab her things and run away.
During the investigation, troopers observed injuries on the victim that were consistent with her description of the incident.
Barton was then arrested and transported to Troop C, where he was charged with assault in the third degree, strangulation in the third degree, unlawful restraint in the second degree, disorderly conduct, and violation of a protective order.
Barton was held on a $35,000 bond and was scheduled for arraignment at Rockville Superior Court on March 4.

Danville man dies as a result of traffic accident
A Danville man died as a result of a motor vehicle accident Wednesday, May 28, around 12:10 p.m. 'Danville Police responded to a report of a vehicle versus motorcycle traffic crash in the area of South Gilbert Street and Bluff Street (State Route 1). Upon arrival, officers located 46-year-old Robert J. Wilson with severe injuries after striking a Honda CRV,' DPD Deputy Chief Joshua Webb said. 'Medical Personal arrived to render aid and the victim was transported to OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.' DPD officers immediately began investigating the scene and were later assisted by the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). 'Officers learned an 80-year-old Danville woman was traveling southbound driving the Honda CRV on Gilbert Street when she attempted to make a left hand turn onto Bluff Street,' Webb said. 'The victim was driving his motorcycle north bound on Gilbert Street when the Honda CRV turned in front of him and he struck the vehicle. The driver of the Honda CRV remained on scene and was uninjured. After investigation of the incident, the driver of the Honda CRV was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield right of way.'

Vehicle crashes into South Abington Twp. Starbucks
A vehicle crashed into the front of the Starbucks in South Abington Twp. on Wednesday afternoon, damaging the front of the coffee shop. Virginia Robbins, 75, of Jamesville, N.Y. was parking a 2025 Honda CRV hybrid in front of the building on Northern Boulevard just after 1:30 p.m., Police Chief Paul Wolfe said. When she went to hit the brake, her foot accidentally hit the accelerator, causing the vehicle to hit the glass windows, he continued. Neither Robbins, the passenger in her vehicle, Robert Van Glick, 76, or any of the customers or employees in the store were injured, Wolfe said. Man accused of fatally shooting ex at Shelby Farms appears in court
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend at Shelby Farms in October appeared in court on Tuesday. Jackson Hopper, 27, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Ellie Young was back in court for a report date now scheduled for July 1. The state told the court they need more time to give the defense possible evidence that could be presented during the trial. 'All parties involved want to make sure all T's are crossed, all I's are dotted, and so this is a marathon, not a sprint. This is a very serious case, you have a loss of life, and a person facing a charge that carries life without parole if convicted,' said Leslie Ballin, Hopper's Defense Attorney. Both parties will let the judge know if they need more time on July 1 to continue to gather information or proceed with the trial. The judge told Young's family that having to reset the case is a part of the judicial process. At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, 22-year-old Ellie Young was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Visitor Center at Shelby Farms after she took part in a Breast Cancer Walk. Witnesses said that they saw Young's Jeep parked in a parking space on the lot. A white Honda CRV with Kentucky temp tags pulled behind her vehicle. The suspect, now known as Hopper, allegedly fired two shots into the back of the Jeep. As the Young exited the Jeep, Hopper allegedly fired at least one more shot into the victim as she laid on the ground. According to the affidavit, Young had recently broken up with Hopper. Man arrested in connection to deadly Shelby Farms shooting Officials say that after fleeing the scene of the crime, he led law enforcement on a multi-county chase. Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley says the pursuit continued through Covington, where Hopper allegedly tried to run over the Tipton County Constable while the Constable attempted to deploy stop sticks. The Dyer County Sheriff's Office said that Hopper allegedly attempted to run over a Dyer County sergeant who set up spike strips at the county line. Deputies performed a PIT maneuver, causing Hopper to crash out on Highway 51. Law enforcement said he tried to fight off officers, but he was eventually taken into custody.
