Atlantis, the palm unveils 'A World Away': A transformative new brand campaign inspired by extraordinary experiences

Zawya10-06-2025
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Atlantis, The Palm unveils 'A World Away', a visually striking and emotionally resonant brand campaign developed entirely in-house by the Atlantis Dubai team, in collaboration with an award-winning, globally recognized film crew.
Created to reshape perceptions, spark imagination, and reignite global awareness, the campaign positions Atlantis, The Palm as far more than a holiday destination. It is a world rich with energy, wonder, and emotion—where guests are invited to leave the ordinary behind and step into the extraordinary. Whether it's a guest overcoming their fears on the iconic waterslide Leap of Faith, or a quiet moment spent face-to-face with marine life, every experience becomes a fulfilled dream.
For the first time in Atlantis history, a campaign of this scale is conceived, produced, and executed entirely by the in-house brand and marketing teams—ensuring the final product is creatively ambitious, deeply authentic, and true to the spirit of the resort. To bring the story to life, the Atlantis team collaborates with Bruce Macdonald, winner of the New York Film Festival and International Film Talent Awards, whose cinematic direction anchors the emotional depth of the campaign.
He is joined by Simon Duggan, the acclaimed Director of Photography behind The Great Gatsby and Hacksaw Ridge, and a two-time AACTA Award winner for Best Cinematography. The visual narrative is further enhanced by London-based photographer Jonathan Stokes, known for his work with National Geographic Traveler; FPV drone expert André Larsen, one of the world's top talents in aerial filming; and underwater cinematographer Mike Rall, founder of Base Films and a recognised leader in his field.
Filming takes place across several of Atlantis, The Palm's most iconic locations, including the grand main lobby, the awe-inspiring Underwater Suite, the renowned Lost Chambers Aquarium, world-class culinary venues under the most Michelin-awarded destination in the region, and the record-breaking Aquaventure World.
Visually, 'A World Away' is defined by a distinctive 80/20 composition principle—80% of each frame showcases the vast, dreamlike environment of Atlantis, while 20% highlights authentic human connection. This deliberate balance amplifies both the scale of the resort and the emotional impact of the experience that guests are invited to partake in.
The campaign runs across digital, social, in-resort, and out-of-home platforms—not just in the UAE, but across key global markets including Saudi Arabia, the UK, USA, Australia, and Europe.

Ancient Christian cross unearthed on Abu Dhabi's Sir Bani Yas Island

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has announced the discovery of an ancient Christian cross on Sir Bani Yas Island, marking the first major excavation on the site in more than 30 years. The find was made during a fieldwork campaign launched in January 2025 and is believed to have been used by monks for spiritual contemplation. The cross, moulded on a stucco plaque, shows stylistic similarities with objects discovered in Iraq and Kuwait, linking it to the Church of the East, which traces its origins to ancient Iraq. Ancient Christian cross found in Abu Dhabi DCT Abu Dhabi said the discovery reinforces the UAE's long-standing traditions of peace and tolerance. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: 'The discovery of this ancient Christian cross on Sir Bani Yas Island is a powerful testament to the UAE's profound and enduring values of coexistence and cultural openness. 'It stirs within us a deep sense of pride and honour and reminds us that peaceful coexistence is not a modern construct, but a principle woven into the very fabric of our region's history. 'The ongoing discoveries from Sir Bani Yas Island, even after 30 years of research and excavation, underscore the magnitude of our cultural legacy and the importance of our continued commitment to its preservation and understanding. 'As DCT Abu Dhabi continues to uncover these valuable stories, we reaffirm our dedication to preserving, promoting, and protecting Abu Dhabi's diverse heritage, one that we are honoured to share with the world.' History unearthed by the DCT Abu Dhabi team! An ancient cross from a 7th-8th century monastery on Sir Bani Yas Island, our first major dig in 30 years. This discovery highlights the UAE's legacy of peaceful co-existence. — Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (@dctabudhabi) August 19, 2025 Sir Bani Yas Island The Sir Bani Yas monastery was originally discovered in 1992 by the Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey (ADIAS). Dating to the seventh–eighth centuries CE, it is part of a wider network of churches and monasteries across the region, with parallels found in: Umm Al Quwain Kuwait Iran Saudi Arabia Archaeologists have uncovered a church, a monastic complex and evidence of courtyard houses, interpreted as spaces where senior monks lived in retreat and seclusion. Christianity flourished in the Arabian Peninsula between the fourth and sixth centuries CE before declining; by the eighth century CE the Sir Bani Yas monastery was peacefully abandoned. Today, the church and monastery lie within a protected nature reserve, home to gazelles and hyrax, and serve as a reminder of Abu Dhabi's diverse cultural past. As part of DCT Abu Dhabi's restoration works in 2019, the monastery and church were protected with shelters and reopened to the public. The site now features upgraded facilities including directional signage and a small exhibition of artefacts from previous excavations, such as glass chalices, a cross-shaped stucco and a scorpion seal. A multi-faith church, inspired by the ancient monastery, has also been constructed adjacent to the visitor centre. Looking ahead, DCT Abu Dhabi plans to continue excavations of nearby courtyard houses, which may be integrated into a wider visitor trail connecting Sir Bani Yas Island's cultural heritage landmarks.

As Pop Mart eyes Middle East expansion, what you need to know about Chinese brand behind Labubu

Labubu has been all the rage, and it doesn't look like the craze is slowing down anytime soon. But could a Pop Mart store finally be on its way to the region? Pop Mart founder and chief executive Wang Ning spoke to analysts on Wednesday, saying the company is weighing possible expansion plans into emerging markets, including the Middle East, Central Europe, as well as Central and South America. 'I think for overseas markets we're still very positive, and we also believe there's still very broad space for growth,' Wang said. For now, fans in the region rely on authorised resellers, as there are no official standalone Pop Mart stores here. But with the company eyeing entry into the UAE, here's a closer look at what they're all about. What is Pop Mart? The toy company from Beijing was founded in 2010, with an early focus on tapping into youth culture trends in China. Its first shop opened in Zhongguancun, the city's tech hub, but struggled with inventory, staffing and a clear identity, selling a wide mix of products. That changed in 2014, when toys became the company's main focus. Wang drew inspiration from Japan's gashapon vending machines, which dispense toys in random canisters. He wanted to capture the same element of surprise, but in sleeker packaging. The result was the 'blind box", so customers buy a sealed box without knowing which figure they'll get. Pop Mart's first big breakthrough came with Hong Kong artist Kenny Wong, who created Molly, a wide-eyed girl with a blond bob and turquoise button-shaped eyes. Already popular with a niche fan base, Molly proved a hit and set the stage for more collaborations. From 2016 onward, Pop Mart partnered with more artists and expanded its range, including Kasing Lung, who introduced Labubu in 2019. Since then, the company has opened stores and installed vending machines, known as Roboshops, across Asia, Oceania, Europe and North America. It has also branched out into animation studios, art galleries and even a theme park called Pop Land. What can I expect inside a store? Pop Mart stores are usually bright, modern spaces designed to feel playful and immersive. They have glass walls showcasing rows of colourful blind boxes, shelves stacked with character figurines, and larger-than-life statues of popular creations such as Labubu or Molly. Inside, the layout is clean and minimalist, but packed with vibrant displays, giving it the feel of both an art gallery and a toy shop. Some locations also feature interactive elements, such as vending-style Roboshops, where customers can try their luck at a blind box. What characters can I find at Pop Mart? Pop Mart offers a wide roster of collectable characters, mostly sold in its blind box format. Its most recognisable in-house creations include Labubu, Molly and Skullpanda. The company has also teamed up with major names such as Disney and Sanrio, the brand behind Hello Kitty. Labubu's appeal in the UAE The UAE has long been a hub for global retail trends and collectables. From Funko Pops to limited-edition trainers, there's a strong culture of fandom and exclusivity, especially for younger buyers who are active on social media. While Pop Mart doesn't yet have a dedicated store in the region, authorised resellers and online platforms already stock its blind boxes, often at a markup. For example, Labubu retails for about Dh79, but some outlets sell them for up to Dh350 or more.

Ras Al Khaimah leads regional real estate boom as one of fastest-growing markets

Ras Al Khaimah is witnessing an unprecedented boom in its real estate sector, quickly establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing property markets in the UAE, thanks to the visionary leadership of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The emirate is moving steadily toward reshaping its urban skyline while building a diversified, resilient economy. This comes as part of its ambitious strategy focused on sound urban planning, sustainability, improving quality of life for citizens and residents, and delivering world-class projects. Over the past three years, the Emirate has recorded significant increases in real estate sales and prices, supported by landmark developments in hospitality, commercial, and residential sectors. Population growth—expected to rise from 0.4 million to 0.65 million by 2030—is projected to drive demand for around 45,000 additional housing units. This sustained growth is built on a diversified economy, investor-friendly legislation, and the entry of major global developers such as Emaar, Aldar, and Ellington Properties, alongside local leaders like Marjan, Al Hamra, and RAK Properties. At the heart of the transformation is Al Marjan Island, a premier coastal destination progressing rapidly under the leadership of Eng. Abdulla Al Abdooli, CEO of Marjan. The island is home to top-tier luxury hotel brands including Wynn, JW Marriott, Nobu, Missoni, and The Address. As part of its expansion plans, Marjan is developing 'RAK Central,' the Emirate's newest mixed-use economic destination featuring a fully integrated complex for business, residential, and leisure activities. The development is expected to become one of the largest commercial districts in the Northern Emirates, offering premium Grade-A offices and incorporating green building practices aligned with Ras Al Khaimah Vision 2030. Meanwhile, Al Hamra Real Estate Development, led by CEO Benoy Kurien, continues to raise the bar for integrated living through its flagship 'Al Hamra Village,' which includes over 4,000 residential units and a golf course, supporting a vibrant community of more than 10,000 residents. The company is also behind major developments such as Waldorf Astoria Residences, Falcon Island, Al Hamra Waterfront, and 'Manar Mall,' the Emirate's largest and most iconic shopping destination. On the coast, RAK Properties is enriching the waterfront with its landmark project 'Mina,' which currently includes award-winning resorts like Anantara Mina Ras Al Khaimah and InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah. The development is also preparing to welcome upcoming projects such as Nikki Beach, Staybridge Suites, and the planned Four Seasons Hotel. Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Chairman of RAK Properties, said, 'The vision of Ras Al Khaimah is now becoming a reality. We are creating a vibrant and sustainable environment that attracts global investment while preserving the unique culture and natural heritage of our Emirate.' Sameh Muhtadi, CEO of RAK Properties, confirmed that Ras Al Khaimah is receiving unprecedented global attention due to exceptional efforts over the past two years, expressing confidence in the continued momentum. The growth of Ras Al Khaimah's real estate sector is underpinned by robust infrastructure, including eight hospitals such as the advanced RAK Hospital, and a modern education system with private schools regulated by the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge. The Emirate also consistently ranks among the safest places in the world, reinforcing its appeal as a destination for living and stability. Tourism is another vital pillar of the Emirate's development. In 2024, Ras Al Khaimah set a record by welcoming 1.28 million tourists to its extraordinary attractions such as Jais Flight—the world's longest zipline—Bear Grylls Explorers Camp, and the '1484 by Puro' restaurant, the highest-elevation dining experience in the UAE. RAK Hospitality Holding, led by CEO Alison Grinnell, plays a key role in this sector, further integrating tourism and hospitality through strategic hotel acquisitions and innovative offerings. Industry leaders agree that Ras Al Khaimah is one of the region's fastest-growing markets, with beachfront apartments, luxury villas, golf communities, and lifestyle hubs continuing to attract both investors and residents. The Emirate's 2030 Vision remains central to this evolution, with its inclusive, sustainable strategy placing people at the heart of progress. With more developers, investors, and residents joining from across the globe, Ras Al Khaimah is positioning itself as a true benchmark for smart cities, vibrant communities, and opportunity-driven living.
