ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque mother facing charges for her one-year-old overdosing on fentanyl will remain in custody until trial. Police said 40-year-old Isha Garcia was smoking meth and fentanyl with friends at the Days Inn on Candelaria Rd. last week.
New Mexico man charged with 10th DWI following high-speed chase
The child and a twin sibling were in a playpen when the child ingested a pill. A housekeeper used Narcan to revive the child, and the child survived. In court on Tuesday, prosecutors said Garcia is not likely to comply with any conditions of release based on her criminal history.
'Now we are all trying to take stock of how best to keep two kids safe when the defendant couldn't do that for them,' said prosecutor Daniel Fogg.
Vanessa Chavez, another mother facing charges for the death of her daughter, was supposed to have her detention hearing this morning, but that was reset for two weeks to give the defense more time to prepare.
