Bhojpur criminal held in Maharashtra

Ara: Bihar STF arrested a notorious criminal, Harendra Choudhary alias Butan Choudhury, from Maharashtra, said superintendent of police (SP), Bhojpur, Raj, on Monday. Butan, carrying a bounty of Rs 2 lakh, hails from Belaur village under Udwantnagar police station area of Bhojpur district. He was jailed for seven years by an Ara court for illegally possessing an AK-47 in 2016. He, however, was out on bail three months ago. On April 6 this year, Bhojpur police and STF seized an AK-47, a hand grenade, 43 live cartridges, and four magazines from the house of Butan at Belaur. Though he couldn't be arrested by the cops, his elder brother, Upendra Choudhury, was arrested in the case. Butan's sister-in-law is the mukhiya of Belaur. According to Bhojpur police, Butan was wanted in as many as 15 cases, including those of murder, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act. Butan's gang and Ranjit Choudhary are bitter adversaries, locked in continual conflict. Several murders were committed in this rivalry between the two gangs. He was arrested for allegedly brandishing illegal weapons, including an AK-47, during the panchayat election in 2016, local sources said. Family & I safe, says YouTuber Elvish Yadav day after shooting outside Gurgaon home

A day after more than two dozen gunshots were fired outside Siddharth Elvish Yadav's home in Gurgaon's Sector 56, the 27-year-old YouTuber on Monday said that he and his family are safe. The accused are yet to be traced, said police, adding that a breakthrough is expected soon. Reaching out to his followers, Yadav posted a story on Instagram, which read, 'I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for your good wishes. My family and I are safe and well. Your kind thoughts and concern are truly appreciated. Thank you.' Three masked men — riding a motorcycle — allegedly fired more than two dozen shots outside the YouTuber's home on Sunday morning. The 27-year-old was not at home when the incident happened. No one was injured, said police, even as the bullets hit the first floor and stilt area of the three-storey residential building in Sector 56. Yadav lives on the second incident was captured on a CCTV camera. Hours after the incident, the Himanshu Bhau Gang, via a post on Instagram, claimed responsibility for the attack. The YouTuber was targeted, according to the post, as he promoted betting platforms. The Sector 56 Police Station lodged an FIR on charges of attempt to murder, criminal acts by multiple accused with common intention, and offences under the Arms Act. Station House Office Vinod Kumar on Monday told The Indian Express that the accused are likely to be nabbed in a day or two. 'The Crime Investigation Agency is on it, so are teams from our station and others. We should have news within another two days.' In his police complaint after the incident, Elvish Yadav's father on Sunday said: 'If we were outside (on the balcony) at that time, we could have lost our lives. We do not have any kind of enmity with anyone and neither have we received any call or message before this.' The attack marked the second such incident in recent weeks targeting celebrities popular among the city's youth. Last month, singer and rapper Rahul Fazilpuria allegedly came under fire near the Southern Peripheral Road in Sector 71. He escaped unhurt after assailants, arriving in another car, opened fire as he stood beside his SUV. Police later arrested a Sonipat resident accused of conducting reconnaissance for that shooting. When asked if any link has been found between the incident and other similar incidents, including the one related to rapper Fazilpuria, the SHO said, 'Nothing so far. Even for the post by the Bhau Gang, our cyber team is on it (checking its authenticity). They tend to post and claim responsibility just like that, without reason sometimes. If they are found responsible, we will definitely nab them.'

9 teacher aspirants detained during protest demanding STET before TRE-4

1 2 3 4 Patna: Eleven days after a similar protest failed to yield any result, the teacher aspirants held another demonstration on Monday, demanding Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) before the fourth phase of Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE-4). As it turned chaotic, police allegedly had to use mild force and detain nine demonstrators. The aspirants, many BEd degree-holders who had been waiting for the exam for months, started their procession from Patna College campus for the CM's residence, but their progress was halted by police and administration at Dak Bungalow crossing. When the protestors attempted to breach barricades, they were met with a forceful response from the police, who didn't deploy water cannons, despite being present at the spot. Carrying banners with slogans like "No STET, no vote" and "STET before TRE-4", the demonstrators voiced their frustration, alleging that the govt had failed to honour its promise to conduct the exam twice a year. "The govt has cheated us. Many of us have completed BEd degrees, and are awaiting the opportunity to sit for the exam, which has not been held since Nov 2023," Chandan Kumar, an aspirant said. Aman Kumar, another teacher aspirant, clarified the demands: "We are not demanding jobs, but just to conduct the STET before TRE-4. If the exam is not held before TRE-4, how will we apply for it," he said. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, a three-member delegation of protesters was sent to the secretariat to meet with a representative of the CM. The delegation was reportedly assured that a response would be provided within one to two days, though the protesters said that they have been given similar unfulfilled assurances in the past. According to Krishna Murari Prasad, subdivisional police officer (law and order)-I, they were compelled to disperse the crowd after the delegation was sent, as the remaining protesters continued to create disturbance. "They were still protesting, causing chaos at the Dak Bungalow crossing. We asked them to leave but they resisted, so we had to disperse them," he said. This protest follows a similar demonstration that took place on Aug 7. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
