Disabled children given customized bikes by charity
CLARKS SUMMIT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A special delivery near Scranton, one that is changing lives. Seven local children with disabilities received custom adaptive bikes and strollers at the Scranton School for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. It is part of a program run by Variety, the children's charity, along with support from the all-one foundation. Paintball tanks headed to Skirmish this weekend Families celebrated with a parade and a chance to try out the new equipment for the first time. 'So the fact that this program is out there, and giving him a trike that is fit to him is wonderful, and it means so much to us,' voiced Scranton resident Jena Olecki. Variety's programs are designed to give kids the chance to live a fuller life, and be included in the community. In total, the organization has delivered more than 85-hundred adaptive devices to children across pennsylvania and west virginia. Mini-Park Village opens as educational and career-focused space for kids
SOUTH FORK, Pa. (WTAJ) — A new Mini-Park Village that will educate children and help them explore careers is now open in South Fork. The South Fork Public Library, in partnership with the Forest Hills School District, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the opening. 'I'm just so excited to see it come alive again, because this park has sat here empty probably for 10 or 15 years, and it's such a beautiful location. And I told someone that the ironic part of this is that my father designed this park and was part of it being built in the 1970s,' Stacey Lewis, South Fork Library Treasurer, said. The Mini-Park Village is a dynamic educational and career-focused space that was made possible through the 'Building Opportunities Out-of-School Time' (BOOST) Grant awarded to both the School District and the town of South Fork. VA Medical Center celebrates women veterans with ceremony According to the library, the park offers hands-on learning experiences that promote career exploration, civic engagement, and real-world application of academic skills. 'I'm a former kindergarten and first-grade teacher, so I know the importance of dramatic play for children. That's how children learn and that's how they develop skills. So in each of the centers, there is a developmental skill, like maybe colors or shapes, and just hands-on activities for children to learn,' Lewis said. Educators, community leaders, and local government also supported this effort. 'So what this mini park is designed to do is really to start planting the seed in our youngest students that, you know, we can start thinking about our careers at a very young age, and there's boundless opportunities. And then in school, we learn what skills they need in order to develop the skills for those careers,' Robert Dill, Assistant Superintendent for Forest Hills School District said. When are STAAR results released 2025? How Texas high school students can check
High school students in the Lone Star State can now view their STAAR results from this spring. On Tuesday, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released end-of-course assessment data from the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR). While students begin taking STAAR exams in third grade, the high school-level tests are subject-specific and typically taken after a student completes the corresponding course. While the STAAR results for students in grades three through eight aren't available yet, those for high school students are. Here's how to check them. TEA provides the following steps to view a student's STAAR scores: Log in to your district's parent portal. Click the link to your district's parent portal page to access STAAR results. Learn more about the STAAR results, including how each test question was answered, and find personalized resources to support learning at home. At the beginning of the next school year, STAAR results can be discussed with teachers to determine the best ways to support learning and academic growth. STAAR results can be viewed via the Texas Assessment site or at The District Family Portal uses a Single Sign-On (SSO) requiring the student's unique access code, date of birth, and first name.
