Northern Ireland midfielder's delight at joining ‘massive club' just days after leaving Championship rivals
Thompson will officially become a Preston player on July 1 having agreed a two year deal with the option of an additional year.
'I'm delighted. It's been quite a quick turnaround and I'm just glad it's all done now,' said the 28-year-old.
'It's a massive club and it's one that I want to be part of.
'I'm looking forward to getting in pre-season, meeting the rest of the boys and the staff properly and getting going.'

Thompson's arrival at Deepdale will see him team up with fellow Northern Ireland star Ali McCann in the middle of the park.
Former Rangers player Thompson, who was with Manchester United as a youngster, spent five years at Stoke making 178 appearances after moving from Blackpool in 2020.
A regular in the international squad with 39 caps to his name, he will bring guile and experience to Preston.
Thompson's new manager Paul Heckingbottom said: 'I'm really pleased we've got our summer business started so early and delighted Jordan's joined us.
'He's a player we knew all about anyway from playing in the Championship and we've been watching him closely with a view to bringing him in.
'Jordan's a top professional and a talented footballer who likes to get on the ball and he adds a bit of balance to the midfield too, being left-footed. I'm looking forward to working with him.'

Reece James is 'delighted' that Chelsea saw off competition from Manchester United to secure the signing of in-demand striker Liam Delap. Enzo Maresca's side had made signing a new striker a priority for the start of the transfer window, and quickly earmarked Delap after his promising first season in the Premier League. 'But this is part of the job, we are responsible for the results and we are responsible for the development of the team so, whether we like it or not, sometimes it is us who has to take the full responsibility.'
