Inpasa says founder's family invested in Vibra for financial goals

SAO PAULO, July 4 (Reuters) - Ethanol producer Inpasa said on Friday that a fund linked to its founder's family had invested in Brazilian fuel distributor Vibra (VBBR3.SA), opens new tab, adding that the investment has strictly financial goals and no relation to Inpasa operations, according to a statement.
Late on Thursday, news outlet Brazil Journal reported that Inpasa, which was founded in Paraguay and is the largest producer of corn ethanol in Brazil, had been acquiring shares in Vibra, coming up to a 3% stake and wanting to increase it further.
In its statement, Inpasa did not disclose the size of the stake in Vibra owned by the fund.

However, talks stalled, it added, saying that according to a source, controlling shareholder and chairman Rubens Ometto has no interest in selling his stake. Last year, Cosan scrapped a planned initial public offering (IPO) for Moove in the United States. In a securities filing, Cosan said there was no agreement, commitment or document signed for a deal, adding that any talks held by the company are non-binding. Cosan also said that it has been approached by various market participants regarding potential alternatives involving its assets. In a separate filing, Vibra said weighing business opportunities is part of its regular activities, while also noting that no agreement, commitment or binding document was signed. Moove declined to comment. CVC did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours.

Speaking alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a state visit in Brasilia, Lula also said Brazilian planemaker Embraer ( opens new tab wants to strengthen its presence in India, partnering with companies there. Lula also said that expanding a preferential trade agreement between India and South American bloc Mercosur could help reduce both tariff and non-tariff barriers that are limiting trade.
