Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab demands minister Yogesh Kadam's resignation over ‘Kandivali dance bar run with mother's licence'

Indian Express22-07-2025
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam, alleging that a dance bar in Kandivali was being operated under a licence held by his mother and that firms linked to the minister's family were mining sand illegally in Ratnagiri.
Parab said he would submit documents, pen drives, and evidence to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday and warned he would approach the Bombay High Court if Kadam was not removed from his post.
'Devendra Fadnavis should seek Kadam's resignation. (Deputy Chief Minister) Eknath Shinde won't act because of political constraints. If the state doesn't act, I will go to court,' Parab said.
Kadam belongs to the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
Parab's allegations stem from a May 30 raid at Savali Bar and Restaurant in Kandivali (West), following which the Mumbai police booked 22 bar dancers, 22 customers, and four staff members for violations under bar regulations.
Citing documents received under the Right to Information Act, Parab said the bar's licence was in the name of Jyoti Kadam, the minister's mother.
'If obscene activities take place in a bar licensed to the minister's family, responsibility lies with the licence holder. Saying it is run by someone else is no defence under the law,' the MLC said at a press conference.
Parab alleged that bar rules were violated, with reports of obscene dance and money being thrown—all of which he claimed was documented in an FIR. Former minister Ramdas Kadam, father of Yogesh Kadam, admitted that the licence is in his wife's name but said the bar has been run by a man named Shetty for 30 years.
'There is an orchestra licence and waitress licence. Nothing illegal is happening,' he said, dismissing Parab's claims as politically motivated.
Parab also accused Kadam of diverting silt from the Jagbudi river in Ratnagiri, stating that sand meant for farmers was instead sent to a private dental college allegedly linked to Kadam's sister. He named Akil Mukadam, who he claimed works at Kadam's residence, as the one overseeing the illegal sand removal.
Kadam, in response, denied all charges, saying he had no involvement in the operation of the bar or in sand removal, and that the allegations were 'baseless and defamatory'. He said the silt removed was not of construction quality.
'If I had any vested interest, no raid would have happened. The police acted under my instructions,' Kadam said on Monday.
Kadam has also announced that he will move a breach of privilege motion against Parab in the Legislative Council and write to the chairperson over Parab's remarks.

Dance Bar, Sand Mining Allegations: Anil Parab Meets CM With Complaints Against Minister Kadam

Reported By : Mayuresh Ganapatye Last Updated: July 29, 2025, 19:45 IST According to Parab, CM Fadnavis (above) has assured him that the matter will be thoroughly investigated. (File) Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction leader Anil Parab has demanded the resignation of Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, over serious allegations related to an illegal dance bar and sand mining. Speaking to the media, Parab claimed that a dance bar is being operated in the name of the minister's mother, tarnishing the image of the state and the government. He also said that he has submitted all the related evidence directly to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and urged immediate action against Kadam. According to Parab, CM Fadnavis has assured him that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence. When asked about the meeting between Parab and Fadnavis, Kadam replied, 'I have cleared my stand to my leadership. I don't pay attention to who is meeting whom. We have given that space on rent. I am only focusing on my work and nothing else." Parab reiterated that he had earlier raised the issue of the controversial dance bar during the session, stating it was not only illegal but being run in the name of Kadam's mother. 'This is not just a matter of moral misconduct, it directly damages the reputation of the government," Parab said. Swipe Left For Next Video View all He also highlighted multiple police raids on the said dance bar — specifically on August 10 and May 28 in 2023, and May 31 in 2025. During these raids, police reportedly detained 22 bar girls, 22 customers, and seized large amounts of cash. 'These establishments have a record of repeated violations. As per the law, the owner is held accountable for any illegal activity. Therefore, Minister Kadam must resign," Parab demanded. In addition to the dance bar issue, Parab also submitted alleged evidence regarding illegal sand mining reportedly linked to Kadam's aides. He claimed that the extracted sand is being dumped on the premises of Yogita Dental College in Khed, and a man named Akit Mukadam has been actively involved in the operations. Parab also submitted video footage allegedly showing a transport department official using an e-challan machine to collect unauthorised payments. He further pointed out that the Bombay High Court has issued a show-cause notice in the sand mining case, noting that no permission was granted for the excavation. 'I have given a copy of the court's direction as evidence. Now it is up to the Chief Minister to examine the material and take a call," Parab said. The Republican Party of India A.P. unit extended its support to the Backward Classes (BCs) who staged a sit-in protest in Vijayawada on Tuesday. RPI A.P. unit president Uppuleti Devi Prasad visited the BCs dharna camp and extended his support. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Devi Prasad said that the Central and State governments were following policies against the SCs, STs, BCs and other minorities. He requested both the governments to give priority to the SCs, STs and BCs in all walks of life. The State government should take up BC census in A.P. and give due reservation to them in all the legislative bodies, Mr. Devi Prasad said. The RPI leader asked the State government to enact laws that will protect the BCs as promised during the election time. Kerala UDF leaders meet nuns jailed in conversion case in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: A delegation of leaders from the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala visited the Durg Central Jail on Tuesday to meet two Catholic nuns arrested in connection with an alleged case of human trafficking and forced religious conversion. UDF MPs from Kerala protest over the arrested two nuns in Chhattisgarh, during the Monsoon session of Parliament, in Delhi, on Tuesday. (PTI) The nuns—Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis— were taken into custody along with Sukaman Mandavi at Durg railway station on July 25, following a complaint lodged by a local Bajrang Dal functionary. The complaint alleged that they were forcibly converting and trafficking three girls from Narayanpur district. The visiting delegation included Lok Sabha MPs Benny Behanan (Congress), N K Premachandran (Revolutionary Socialist Party), K Francis George (Kerala Congress-Joseph), and Congress MLA Roji M John, along with other Congress leaders from Kerala. Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Premachandran claimed the nuns were innocent. 'We were scheduled to meet them at 12.30 pm, but were initially denied entry because a BJP delegation from Kerala was also present. After their meeting concluded, we were finally allowed in,' he said, adding that the group staged a protest outside the jail over the delay. Premachandran said the delegation was allowed inside only after former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel intervened. 'We had an elaborate discussion with the nuns, and they explained everything to us, though I won't disclose the details here. But it's clear—they are innocent,' he said. He claimed the girls were not being trafficked or converted, but were simply being taken for jobs, and the nuns had arrived at the station to receive them. 'That's when Bajrang Dal members showed up and assaulted them,' he alleged. Former CM Baghel, who also addressed the media, accused the ruling BJP of targeting minorities to polarise voters. Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday condemned the politicisation of the issue. He said the three girls from Narayanpur were promised nursing training and jobs, and were being handed over at Durg station to the nuns, who were allegedly taking them to Agra. 'An attempt was being made to convert them,' Sai claimed.
