Madi's Hope Foundation holding event in June
LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local organization that strives to spread generosity is holding an annual event next month.
Madi's Hope Foundation was created in memory of Madi Moore who passed away after battling cancer. Tera Orman is Madi's mother and the owner of the Linton Beauty College. She said the foundation creates personalized backpacks from donations of funds for children who are sick. The goal is to inspire hope.
'Hopefully we'll be able to raise a lot of money this year to help several kids in our community and abroad that are battling sickness and we'll be able to help ease their burdens,' said Orman.
Madi's Day of Hope helps bring awareness to the foundation. The event takes place June 7 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Humphreys Park in Linton. This year's event is carnival-themed and will feature vendors, live music, games and a fundraiser for the foundation. Entrance is free.

Sullivan doctor gives health tips for men during Men's Health Month
SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — June is Men's Health Month, and a local doctor is sharing some advice on staying healthy. Kilby Osborn is a physician for Sullivan County Community Hospital, and he said some health issues men should for are diseases like testicular or colon cancer. He added that if something feels off, it probably is and men should get it checked out. He suggests everyone should get physicals regularly. 'Men, women, kids, you should all be getting physicals once a year. That's a good rule of thumb. You go in, you get checked out at the doctor once a year. You have labs done once a year. We can check your vital organs. We can check your liver. We can check your kidneys. We can check your blood sugar. We can sometimes find things that you might not even notice,' said Osborn. He also emphasized the importance of catching health issues early so they're easier to treat. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Ascension St. Vincent donates backpacks to Clay students
BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — School may be out for summer break, but a local hospital is doing its part to ensure the next school year gets off to a great start. With help from community donations and employee fundraisers, Ascension St. Vincent in Clay County provides backpacks full of school supplies for students as part of their Backpack Program. Students in the Clay Community Schools can sign up for the program and receive a backpack later this summer. Best deals on back-to-school essentials for K-12 The hospital expects to give out over 200 backpacks this summer. 'We have a mixture of kids that come up, they are super excited cause they might have got their favorite color backpack. We really try to specialize the backpack, you know, we put a lot of thought into it for each kid,' said Executive Assistant Emily Staley. When filling the backpacks with supplies, the hospital looks at the school supply list for each grade in the school system. That way, students have exactly what they need for the school year. It's also an opportunity for the hospital to give back to the community. Back to school bus safety tips 'It's an engagement for the community, not just in healthcare, but for the community itself. It's just the way to ease the burden for parents and grandparents and or guardians so that they don't have to endure the full cost of school supplies,' said Supervisor of Supply Chain Jessica Lundy. The hospital said sign-up sheets for the program need to be completed and turned in by June 20. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Catholic Charities holding summer fundraisers
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Catholic Charities is a local organization that helps food insecure individuals get the help they need. This summer, they are hosting a number of fundraising events to help with that cause, that they say they need now more than ever. A recent study by Feeding America shows that people in West Central Indiana are struggling. Jennifer Tames is the Assistant Agency Director for Catholic Charities. She said the results of the study show Vigo County has a problem. 'Vigo County ranks the fourth highest in the percentage of food insecure individuals across the state of Indiana and the third highest in the percentage of children who are food insecure', Tames said. To help this issue, Catholic Charities is holding two upcoming fundraisers. The first, the Quick Quack Trail Run. 'It's not a road race where people are looking to get their best time. It's a race that is going to be taking place at Griffin Bike Park on June 21st', Tames said. 'We're using the bike trails there that include things like a water bridge over a pond, moguls, hills, and just all sorts of fun parts of running a trail.' Another event this summer is the Rubber Duck Regatta. Jessica Murphy, Development Manager for Catholic Charities, said residents can adopt a duck for a chance at a cash prize. 'On the 4th of July, you'll have an opportunity to win $10,000 through the Rubber Duck Regatta', Murphy said. 'Misco, our good friends, release upwards of 15,000 rubber ducks at Fairbanks Park. The winning duck is chosen at random.' Both events will raise money for Catholic Charities to help food insecure individuals in the local community. 'We know that our community members step up every time we ask and we appreciate that because we can't provide the services of Catholic Charities without the community coming together to provide the funds for that', Tames said. 'This is a great way, not only to provide the funds, but also have fun yourself.' To learn more information or be involved in the Quick Quack Trail Run, you can visit their website here.
