State Rep. Tim Yocum to hold four town halls this week
CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) has announced he will be hosting four town halls the week of June 2 to hear from community members and recap the 2025 legislative session. 'Town halls are one of the best ways for me to connect directly with the people I represent. They give me the opportunity to talk about the issues that matter most, reflect on what we accomplished this session and hear from my constituents,' Yocum said in a press release sent to WTWO/WAWV. 'I encourage you to attend one of the upcoming town halls near you.' Tim Yocum chosen as State Representative for District 42 Locations and dates of town halls: 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Brazil City Hall, 203 E. National Ave. 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Bridge 61 (Kremer Conference Room), 1248 N. Lincoln Road in Rockville. 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the Clinton Community Center, 301 S Main St. 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the Cayuga Community Center, 103 S. Logan St. The Indiana General Assembly concluded the 2025 legislative session on April 24, and will meet for Organization Day on November 18, ahead of the 2026 legislative session. 2025 Indiana Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The 2025 Special Olympics Summer Games in Terre Haute begin in one week and to kick off the events, local law enforcement and officials put their running shoes on. Officers from all branches come together, each year, to run alongside Special Olympics Indiana Athletes, signifying the beginning of the 2025 Special Olympics Summer Games. Quentin Seger is an officer at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. He said community is the most important aspect of this event. 'Coming together as a community is always important', Seger said. 'I'm a big believer in strength in numbers, so if a community can come together and show support for an organization, I think it's a huge help for a community to build a stronger bond and a relationship as a whole.' Participants ran three miles through downtown Terre Haute and Indiana State's campus, alongside Special Olympics athlete Shelby Baker, who was carrying the torch to start the race and cross the finish line. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said this run is just the start of local law enforcement's participation in the Special Olympics Summer Games. 'A lot of the local law enforcement agencies are actively involved, and I say actively because they don't just sponsor', Sakbun said. 'They do the high five line, they help compete in some of the events, they do the memorial run which means just so much to the athletes and the organization.' The Special Olympics Summer Games will begin in Terre Haute on June 6th, bringing together thousands of athletes, partners, and volunteers. Sakbun said the numbers do more than just help Terre Haute. 'Anytime you bring over 2,500 athletes, as well as their families, to the community that's obviously a huge boost', Sakbun said. 'I think what it also does, a unique event like this, is it inspires folks. The challenges that they go through to come through all of that and then champion at the end of it, honestly means a lot.' 19th Annual Dancing with the Terre Haute Stars kick-off event May 29
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Chances and Services for Youth (CASY) will be hosting an event at the County Club of Terre Haute to kick off the 19th year of Dancing with the Terre Haute Stars. Dancing with the Terre Haute Stars has raised more than $3.4 million to support CASY's youth programs. Funds raised during the event go towards programs like before and after school care, Camp RAVE, Safe Kids/Car Seats, Teen Court, Tobacco-Free Vigo, mentoring programs, iLEAD, and more. Each star learns a professionally choreographed two-minute dance routine over ten lessons with instructors from The Dance Studio. The winner of the competition is whoever raises the most funds for CASY by the time the event takes place on October 3. The kick-off event will take place on Thursday at the Country Club of Terre Haute from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the announcement of this year's stars at 6:30 p.m. The 19th annual Dancing With the Terre Haute Stars will take place at the Hulman Center and will feature a dinner and an online silent auction along with the dance competition. Spreader truck runs over and kills one in Daviess County
DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A 77-year-old man is dead after spreader truck ran off the roadway and struck the individual in Daviess County on Friday night. According to the Daviess County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a call around 5:00 p.m. on Friday to a report of an accident involving a spreader truck near State Road 57 near Crestwood Drive. Upon arrival, authorities determined Dennis P. Toy (68) was traveling northbound on State Road 57 and for unknown reasons, went off the roadway in his John Deer 800R. The spreader then ran over and entrapped an individual who was later identified as Daniel J. Ritterskamp (77). The John Deer 800R struck multiple trees before coming to a resting stop. Mr. Ritterskamp was pronounced dead at the scene. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Washington Township Fire, Daviess County Coroner's Office, Daviess Community Hospital Ambulance Service, Washington City Fire, Washington City Police, and Briggeman's Towing.
