Tuberous Sclerosis garden wins gold at flower show
A garden that was designed to raise awareness for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association has won a gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Jen Donnelly and Catherine Gibbon volunteer at Amersham Hospital in Buckinghamshire and rejuvenate the gardens used by staff and patients.
Their "Room to Breathe" garden was inspired by Ms Donnelly's experiences waiting in hospitals for her 15-year-old son Alex, who has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, to have surgery.
After the flower show, the garden will be moved to Amersham Hospital, which will become its permanent home.
Tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic condition that causes mainly benign tumours to develop in different parts of the body, such as the brain, heart, and lungs.
Ms Donnelly recalled: "My memory is sitting on a plastic chair in a clinical corridor waiting for news of his operations.
"I thought, wouldn't it have been amazing to have a little space outside space. I could've gone to [it] to escape, have a moment to yourself.
"So we've created this little corner of a hospital courtyard where a parent could go to and have that moment to themselves."
The design won its trophy in the Balcony and Container Garden category.
It was created with planting containers off the ground, at various heights, in a 12 square-meter space.
A "cocoon-like hanging chair" was included, which Ms Gibbon said evoked the feeling of having "a nice hug you really need when you're in hospital".
During the show, the garden was visited by celebrities such as actor Sir David Suchet, Strictly Come Dancing star Nadiya Bychkova and singer Alexandra Burke.
Ms Donnelly said: "David Suchet was so lovely and spent so much time with us, talking to the public about why it was important to raise awareness about the condition.
The Poirot actor has regularly supported the charity in public.

David Beckham is to be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours, according to reports. The former England captain will appear on the list due to be released next week, the Sun reported, having previously been awarded an OBE in 2003. Beckham is the only Englishman to score at three different World Cups and his career included the treble-winning campaign of 1998-99, when Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. He earned the third highest number of England caps of all time for the men's team, and was captain on 59 occasions. After playing for United, Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Madrid, Beckham turned to making his co-owned US team Inter Miami into a success. The former winger married Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, in 1999. Together the power couple starred in the Netflix documentary Beckham – which included a viral scene of her discussing class. The four-part documentary series about Beckham's life and professional career scored him an Emmy in 2024 for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series. Beckham was given his OBE for services to football on the recommendation of then-prime minister Tony Blair. His wife Victoria got the same honour for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list.

How social media is transforming wedding days
A wedding content creator said described how more couples are embracing seeing their big day through the candid lens of a mobile phone. Geared with just an iPhone, Beth Denman, 25, and her team take thousands of photos and videos during weddings, which are edited into short form content for social media. She started Social Scenes from her home in Attleborough, Norfolk, two years ago and has now grown it into a team of five. "It's very candid and in the moment... it's the moments that are often missed by the bride and groom," Ms Denman said. She first discovered wedding content creation in 2023, on social media posts from Australia. Ms Denman estimated that, at the time, there were just three other wedding creators in Norfolk. "I thought that I could totally do this. I noticed that no-one was really doing it in Norfolk," she said. She estimates there are now about 20 people providing a similar service across the county. The wedding planning website, Hitched, has reported a 586% rise in searches for wedding content creators in 2025. Ms Denman said she plays the role of the "uninvited but invited guest". "We blend in with the shadows and we gravitate around the wedding to capture different parts," she added. Wedding creators such as Ms Denman work alongside traditional photographers and videographers to capture the big day. Although they may seem similar, Ms Denman said wedding creators worked candidly, sometimes providing content for couples within 24 hours. "I think if people see it as the death of the photographer or videographer, they're getting the complete wrong conception," she added. "Content creators aren't a replacement for anybody... we are an addition." Wedding photographer Ellie Gillard agrees that the services they provide differ. Ms Gillard has been a wedding photographer in Norfolk and London for 14 years, and has photographed more than 400 weddings. "Content creators serve a different purpose in the grand scheme of things," she said. "It's great for people who are very present on social media - the content that they give you are almost instant. "But people have had photographers at their wedding since photography began, and it fits that tradition." She has previously worked with content creators and believes their job is not as simple as some may think. "The growth of content creators means that some people think it's fun, that they can turn up and just point their phones at things," she said.
