People in certain parts of the country might be able to see northern lights or aurora borealis once again, but it doesn't look like it will last long. Earth is currently under the influence of a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that came to the planet yesterday, June 1, according to the Met Office.
The forecaster has said though people might be able to see the northern lights at first in UK, the chances to do so fall sharply with time, and will depend on factors like the intensity of geomagnetic activity and the sky being dark.
The Met Office's forecast for yesterday predicted that people as far as Wales would be able to see the aurora borealis.

An X post by the forecaster June 1 read: 'There's a chance of seeing the #aurora tonight, possibly as far south as the Midland and Wales.
'Most likely though, the #northernlights will be visible for Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland, where clear skies allow.'

So will you be able to see the famed lights from your backyard tonight?
If you live in Wales, that is unlikely due to the 'wet and windy' forecast for the night.
The full forecast for Monday evening and night reads: 'A fine evening, with plenty of sunshine ahead of dusk.
'Turning wet and windy overnight as a band of rain arrives from the west.
'The rain will prove heavy for a time before clearing northern and western Wales by dawn. Minimum temperature 8 °C.'
However, those living in Scotland, northern England, and Northern Ireland, might just be fortunate enough to experience the light due to 'residual geomagnetic storms'
The Met Office has told WalesOnline: 'Some residual geomagnetic storms likely on Monday UTC evening, with aurora sightings generally confined to Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland.'

Thunderstorms to bring more rain this weekend than all of May
Thunderstorms will bring more rainfall in six hours this weekend than England and Wales saw in the whole of May. The Met Office has warned that 'all areas' of Britain face torrential rain and thunder this weekend. Heavy showers would be accompanied by lightning and hail in some places, the forecaster added. Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, said 50mm of rain could fall within the space of six hours on Saturday. He said: 'That is more than what we have seen in the whole of the month of May. 'There will be some heavy downpours with thunder, lightning and hail. 'Most places are at risk of thunderstorms.' On average, England saw 33mm of rainfall in the whole of May. This was roughly half as much as usual, the forecaster said. Wales had 51mm of rainfall. Mr Morgan warned people to keep abreast of the forecasts as the weather was looking 'pretty changeable'. He said: 'There are a lot of outside events taking place this weekend. There is the potential for some disruption. 'We could see some flooding and surface water on the roads. Strong winds will mean temporary structures such as marquees could be vulnerable. 'It is welcome rain, really, for a lot of people, particularly farmers and gardeners.' On Friday night, a new weather front will bring rain and thunder for the weekend, but temperatures are set to rise next week to just above average for the time of year. Andrea Bishop, the Met Office spokesperson, said: 'The weather will be changeable for the rest of this week, with everyone likely to see some showers at some point. 'Generally, the theme is the continuation of something a bit cooler, a bit breezy at times, and a bit wet at times too. 'We are keeping an eye on a new front which looks like it will move in on Friday night, bringing rain which could be heavy, and possibly thundery at times on Saturday. 'Rainfall totals of 20-30mm are likely in places and at present, this looks like it will affect the southern half of the UK. We are keeping a close eye on this to see how it evolves over the next 24 hours or so.'

Thunderstorm warning as Met Office forecast heavy rain to batter Britain
Britain's summer is off to a stormy start despite marking the sunniest and warmest spring on record. The Met Office has forecasted blustery showers and heavy rain with occasional hail and thunder from the start of June. While temperatures look to remain mild and balmy at in the mid- to high-teens, it's a marked difference from the sky-high temperatures of May, after the month started with peaks of 29.3C in London. Scotland will see 13C on Thursday, while further south in England, London will experience temperatures of 19C. Meteorologist Clare Nasir said there would be 'more wet weather on its way into the early hours of Thursday morning', adding that 'the rain then gradually tracks towards eastern counties through the morning. A stronger wind, particularly across channel coasts and some showers to follow.' She said: 'This band of rain will mean some wet weather through the first part of Thursday.' The forecaster warned that hail and thunder are possible over the weekend as well while the weather remains wet. The latest downpour comes as Britain marked record-breaking weather for April and May, with the Met Office declaring the warmest and sunniest spring on UK record on Monday. All across the UK, the Met Office marked the warmest spring for mean temperatures since the series began in 1884, surpassing the previous record from 2024. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales also saw their sunniest spring on record, while England recorded its second sunniest spring since records began in 1910. Spring 2025 has been classed as the fourth sunniest season overall for the UK, with only three summers sunnier since records began. The Met Office put the unusual spring weather down to persistent high-pressure systems originating from mainland Europe, which have blocked the usual flow of Atlantic weather fronts. Met Office scientist Emily Carlisle said: "The UK's climate continues to change. What's particularly notable about spring 2025 is the combination of record warmth and sunshine, alongside very low rainfall. 'This spring shows some of the changes we're seeing in our weather patterns, with more extreme conditions, including prolonged dry, sunny weather, becoming more frequent. The data clearly shows that recent decades have been warmer, sunnier, and often drier than the 20th century average, although natural variation will continue to play a role in the UK's weather.' UK weather forecast Wednesday: Sunny spells and showers for many, these locally heavy and frequent in the north. Showers forming into bands across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, and northern England. Breezy for all, with coastal gales in northwest Scotland at first. Feeling cool. Blustery showers continue to affect the north of the country tonight. Dry with clear spells elsewhere, but thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain arriving from the west later. Thursday: Rain, heavy in places will push eastwards during the day, clearing by mid afternoon. Sunny spells and showers, already affecting Scotland will follow for all. Rather breezy. Friday to Sunday: Staying changeable with sunny spells and showers on Friday. Heavier and more frequent showers on Saturday, with hail and thunder possible. Drier on Sunday. Often breezy and feeling rather cool.
