‘The best team in Europe' – Liverpool's Mohamed Salah opens up on PSG following Champions League exit
Salah has admitted that, despite losing the first leg at home with Harvey Elliott scoring an unlikely winner, PSG produced an outstanding performance. 'They were so unlucky, and we were so lucky', Salah said. 'Alisson produced his best-ever performance of his Liverpool career.' Unfortunately for Liverpool, Lady Luck favoured the visitors in the return leg. 'We struck the posts twice or three times. They did goalline clearances too. We were unlucky too.'

Salah could not tell which one of Liverpool or PSG was the more worthy team to go through, considering both teams dominated one game each. 'And then, you lose to penalties. Sometimes, it's your day. It was their day.' The Premier League season best goalscorer recalled that he shook the PSG players' hands to congratulate them, and cheered for them to win the Champions League. 'We were in great form all season, and in March alone, we hit a bit of a slump. And we ended up facing the best team in Europe at that time.'
Salah added that playing the Carabao Cup Final against Newcastle United just days after this gruelling Champions League defeat at home was 'bad timing.'

A Middlesbrough academy graduate, Hackney developed into a key figure under Michael Carrick, one of the more underrated midfielders in Premier League history. Often described as Carrick's on-field embodiment, the former Manchester United star described Hackney as 'everything you could ever hope for in a player'. Whether Everton can tempt Boro into selling remains to be seen. Banfield was batting .220 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 253 plate appearances this season for the Bats. When Banfield makes an appearance for Cincinnati, it will be his MLB debut. What to know about Banfield, who is wearing No. 49 for the Reds: The Reds signed Banfield to a minor-league contract in November 2024 Banfield became a free agent after playing last season for the Miami Marlins' Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. A second-round pick of the Marlins in the 2018 MLB draft, Banfield hit .258 with 23 home runs in 495 plate appearances for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos, a former Reds' affiliate, in 2023. The Reds acquired Sims in 2018 along with pitcher Matt Wisler and outfielder Preston Tucker for outfielder Adam Duvall. In July 2024, the Reds traded Sims to the Boston Red Sox for Ovis Portes. The Washington Nationals released Sims in May. He signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies, and has pitched since May 20 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Banfield was considered among the top defensive prospects at catcher in the 2018 draft Banfield was committed to Vanderbilt, but opted to sign with the Marlins for $1,800,000 when they made him the 69th overall pick. Former Marlins manager Skip Schumaker, a former Reds player, said this to of Banfield in March 2024, when Banfield was at spring training with the Marlins: "Banfield, we love. He's been great. Definitely has the leadership quality to be a Major League catcher. He's as good as anybody, and is becoming a good hitter. Last year was a major step for him in the right direction with power and understanding how to hit." In addition to baseball, Banfield played football and swam until his junior year of high school. Serie A has become the most unpredictable of Europe's five biggest soccer leagues with four different champions over the last six seasons. Add in that last season marked the second time in four years the title race went down to the last round and it could be considered the most competitive, too. By comparison, only Liverpool or Manchester City have won the Premier League in the last eight seasons; Spain is mostly a two-team show with Real Madrid and Barcelona; Bayern Munich has won 12 of the last 13 Bundesliga titles; and Paris Saint-Germain is just as dominant in France. So while Napoli is favored to repeat as champion this season, there's a handful of serious challengers: Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Atalanta. Napoli edged Inter by one point last season in a race that was so close it raised the possibility of a single-match playoff to determine the title — a rule that remains in place for this season if two teams finish level. Here's what to know about Serie A: De Bruyne boosts Napoli's title defense When Napoli won the title in 2023 it followed up the championship with a highly disappointing 10th place finish.
