Studio Martin Brudnizki's vision for Sexy Fish Dubai turns marine maximalism into a bold, immersive masterpiece.

If Alice tumbled down the rabbit hole and into the depths of the ocean, she'd find a world where the wonders of the deep come alive. Here, in Dubai's Sexy Fish restaurant, corals glow, mythical creatures lurk, and opulence shimmers like sunlit waves. This Japanese-inspired dining destination is designed by the London- and New York-based Martin Brudnizki Design Studio as a 'marine maximalism' experience.
The adventure begins at the entrance, unfolding like a hidden cave beneath the ocean's surface. A soft aquatic glow reveals a striking teal blue octopus sculpture by the English artist Damien Hirst floating over the reception desk, its presence both mesmerising and surreal, setting the stage for a world where the extraordinary reigns. The surrounding walls sprawl with intricate shellfish and coral motifs transforming the space into an intricate underwater tableau—one that blurs the line between reality and fantasy.
Walking into the main dining area, a golden central bar commands attention, crowned by a sculpted column that stretches to the ceiling. Soft, hidden lights glow through its translucent coloured glass cladding, casting an ambient radiance. The warmth of the space is enriched by deep green upholstered dining chairs, their tones echoing the mysteries of the sea.
Above, large glass koi fish drift weightlessly, their transparent forms capturing movement as if suspended mid-swim, tails curling in an unseen current. No detail is overlooked—even the golden glass table lamps resemble baby jellyfish, their delicate glow pulsating like gentle creatures adrift in an endless ocean.
Lighting in the space is more than just illumination—it's an orchestrated experience that breathes life into every corner. Designed by London lighting studio 18Fifty, it subtly guides the eye without overwhelming, flowing through the bar, gliding over the precious stone marble flooring, and exuding a sense of understated elegance within this carnival of oceanic excess.
No detail was spared—not even the bathroom. Draped in coral pink marble and onyx, you might think that's the pinnacle of luxury. But at its center, a shellfish-inspired fountain cradles the sinks, like a whimsical scene from 'The Little Mermaid'—if Ariel decorated her cave with trinkets from Barbie's world. Glass wall sconces shaped like shells cast a soft glow, while vibrant coral reef wallpaper wraps the space in underwater fantasy. And just when you think the journey is winding down, the ceiling blooms with cascading pink flowers, keeping the spectacle alive.

Florence Pugh Stars in Yungblud's Latest Music Video 'Zombie"

Yara Sameh Florence Pugh's latest starring role is in Yungblud's music video for his new track 'Zombie.' Released Friday, the Oscar-nominated actress leads the video as a medical professional struggling with the demands of her personal and professional life. Throughout, Yungblud sings about masking away pain and slipping into a zombie-like state while Pugh's performance delivers his lyrics. 'Oh, I know that I can't live without you / But this world will keep turning if you do / Would you even want me looking like a zombie? / Would you even want me, want me, want me?' he sings throughout the track. By the end of the video, a pair of angel wings appear on Pugh's shoulders. Of the track, Yunblud disclosed that 'Zombie' was 'written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before.' 'It's about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment,' he said. 'We all want someone or something to comfort us no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it's fucking scary.' Pugh recently starred in the MCU's latest movie "Thunderbolts*" where she led an 'unconventional team of antiheroes' alongside Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The music video was directed by Charlie Sarsfield and produced by Untold Studios as part of the English singer's forthcoming album, Idols. 'Zombie' is the third release from the record, following 'Lovesick Lullaby' and 'Hello Heaven, Hello.' "Idols" arrives June 20 via Locomotion/Capitol Records. Van Gogh Museum features African artist for first time - Visual Art - Arts & Culture

Expressive brushstrokes depict a man seated at a table, his face hidden behind a book of Japanese prints, a plastic chair in the corner, and a Nigerian passport lying on the table. It is one of 10 new paintings by Nigerian artist John Madu, created for "Paint Your Path" -- the first solo exhibition by an African artist at Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum, which opened Friday. Madu, 42, produced the 10 works in just three months in his Lagos studio, each responding to one of seven paintings by the Dutch master. "Before I even knew who Van Gogh was, I knew about his work," said the artist, recalling how as a child he admired his father's calendars filled with Impressionist art. "Van Gogh's works actually stuck out to me because of the yellows, the swirls, the strokes," he told AFP. Madu plays on the global familiarity of Van Gogh's work to build connections between local and universal themes, notably through self-portraiture and the use of symbols. Van Gogh's famous wooden chair is reimagined by Madu as a white plastic seat -- sometimes the main subject, sometimes carried on the shoulder of a protagonist resembling the artist entering a cafe in France's Provence region with a yellow facade. "So I feel the world of Van Gogh plays out for people to relate to you," he said. "I really wanted to pay homage to this master I really love. "So I thought for it to blend perfectly, the strokes, the brush strokes, the colour theme should connect together. "That would make the works actually feel like one." This is not Madu's first dialogue with Western art -- his previous works have drawn inspiration from Gustav Klimt, Edward Hopper and Norman Rockwell. These references resonated with the "Beeldbrekers" ("Image Breakers"), a group of young adults who co-commissioned the exhibition with the goal of making the Van Gogh Museum more inclusive -- both in its exhibitions and outreach. "For me, especially, it's a kind of representation to see an African artist being represented in a museum like this," said Himaya Ayo, a 22-year-old member of the Beeldbrekers. "So, when I heard that, I immediately signed up for it, and now I get to take part in this amazing, but also very historical moment." Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Submissions Open for the RSIFF's 48-hour Film Challenge

Applications are open to Saudi nationals and residents aged 18 to 25 with a submission deadline of June 15th, 2025. The Red Sea International Film Festival has opened submissions for its annual 48-hour Film Challenge, inviting aspiring filmmakers across Saudi Arabia to push the boundaries of storytelling. Applications are now open and will close on June 15th, 2025. The challenge is open to Saudi nationals and residents aged 18 to 25. Teams must include two to five members. While all experience levels are welcome, including first-timers, the team leader (who should also serve as the director) must be a Saudi national, and is responsible for submitting the application. Applicants must submit a letter in English (max 1,000 words) explaining their motivation for joining, what they aim to bring to the challenge, and why they want to compete for a residency in France. A short script and links to past film or media work may also be included, though not required. Selected teams will take part in a two-day online workshop on July 11th–12th, covering all aspects of short film production. Attendance is mandatory, except for the writing session, which is for the team's writer and director. Filming will take place on July 18th to the 19th. Teams will create a three to seven minute film exploring one main theme—de-coding, playing, creating, or thinking—and one sub-theme such as memory, time, technology, or breath. A surprise element revealed 24 hours before the shoot must also be included. Films can be in Arabic or English. Arabic submissions must include English or French subtitles. All content must be newly created for the challenge.
