Bahraini Officer Joins Diploma

A Bahraini police officer has returned home after gaining valuable experience in police innovation and leadership during an intensive global programme hosted by Dubai Police.
First Lieutenant Ali Tariq Alhasan from Bahrain's Ministry of Interior took part in the Police Innovation and Leadership Diploma, organised by Dubai Police in partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology.
The course brought together over 50 officers from multiple countries and ran for nearly four months.
Global learning experience
Lt Alhasan expressed gratitude to His Excellency Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, for the opportunity to attend. He described the experience as enriching both professionally and personally.
'This was not just a diploma, but a complete journey that enhanced my knowledge and gave me an international perspective on police collaboration,' he said.
One of the highlights for Lt Alhasan was attending the UAE SWAT Challenge, where he witnessed elite tactical units compete under rigorous standards of professionalism and discipline.
Exploring new technologies
The diploma combined classroom lectures, field visits, and practical exercises.
Lt Alhasan particularly appreciated Dubai Police's Smart Police Stations and the innovative Drone Box system, which he believes could improve rapid response and public safety measures in Bahrain.
'These pioneering ideas present exceptional opportunities to enhance the efficiency and quality of police services back home,' he said.
Personal growth and future plans
Lt Alhasan praised the inclusive learning environment and the camaraderie among participants.
He also reflected on how his passion for horse riding has shaped his leadership style by promoting patience, discipline and communication.
He concluded: 'The programme has inspired me and provided me with practical ideas that I am eager to explore further for the benefit of policing in Bahrain.'

The General Directorate of Traffic confirmed multiple arrests and investigations following a string of violations that were either caught on surveillance or went viral on social media. Wrong-Way Crashes On June 4, a 31-year-old man was arrested in Sanad after a social media video showed him recklessly driving the wrong way on National Charter Road. The stunt endangered countless drivers, but traffic authorities acted quickly to identify and detain him and legal action is underway. Just two days earlier, on June 2, a 29-year-old Bahraini driver was involved in a shocking accident on Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway, heading toward King Fahd Causeway, driving against traffic. The crash, captured on CCTV, showed the vehicle colliding with several others. The driver and several victims sustained serious injuries. Emergency teams responded swiftly, and legal steps were taken immediately. Car Door Incident on Janabiya Road Another widely shared video showed a passenger opening a car door while the vehicle was moving along Janabiya Road. The Traffic Directorate confirmed the car had Gulf plates and that the act was the result of a personal dispute inside the vehicle. The incident raised alarm about road safety, and legal procedures were promptly carried out. Red Light Violations In a separate case, two drivers—a truck driver and a private vehicle operator—were arrested after being caught on camera running a red light on Budaiya Road, recklessly risking the safety of other road users. Traffic authorities confirmed that both individuals were dealt with in accordance with the law. sds Saar Tragedy The heightened concern comes in the wake of a devastating tragedy last week in Saar, where a speeding car veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Bahraini couple's vehicle. The couple, aged 40 and 36, tragically lost their lives, while their three children—ages 12, 9, and 7—suffered serious injuries and remain in hospital care. According to traffic authorities, the crash was caused by reckless driving and excessive speed. The incident shook the nation and pushed the government into immediate action. Cabinet Responds In a weekly session chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Cabinet reviewed urgent legislative amendments to Bahrain's traffic laws. The proposed changes, presented by the Minister of Interior, include harsher penalties, increased fines, and stricter sentencing for violations that cause injury or death. The reforms also aim to address dangerous driving behaviors such as wrong-way driving, red light violations, and high-speed stunts—reinforcing the government's firm stance on protecting public safety. Several Members of Parliament are now advocating for mandatory dash cameras in all vehicles to deter reckless behavior and aid investigations. Bahrain's pioneering alternative sentencing model is influencing justice reform efforts across the Arab region, legal and law enforcement experts said at the First International Conference on Alternative Sentencing. Speaking during the conference's second session, which focused on alternative sanctions and future challenges, participants highlighted the importance of balancing justice, rehabilitation, and public safety through modern sentencing practices. The session was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Muqbil, Assistant Undersecretary for State Cases and International Cooperation at Bahrain's Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments. Transition Egypt's former Interior Minister, Major General Ahmed Gamal El Din, noted that his country is transitioning from traditional incarceration to rehabilitation-focused facilities equipped with modern healthcare, drug treatment programmes, and educational services. He emphasised the role of technology in administering alternative sanctions while protecting public security and individual rights. Brigadier General Osama Majed Al-Majed, Assistant Director General of Kuwait's General Directorate of Correctional Institutions, outlined recent legal reforms in his country, including the new Domestic Violence Law and Alternative Sentencing Law No. 5 of 2025. These laws promote community service and rehabilitation as judicial alternatives, aiming to reduce reoffending and support reintegration. Collaboration He also called for continued regional collaboration in shaping responsive legal frameworks. Colonel Dr. Ali Al-Zuabi from the UAE Ministry of Interior shared the UAE's preventive justice strategy, which focuses on crime deterrence through advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and smart surveillance systems.
