Property dealer arrested for hit-and-run near Hyatt hotel
A 55-year-old property dealer was arrested on April 26 for allegedly killing a man in a hit-and-run incident that occurred opposite Hotel Hyatt Regency in Bhikaji Cama Place earlier in the day.
Police said the accused, Rajesh Mehta, is a resident of West Delhi 's Paschim Vihar.
Police said the victim, Mulu (34), who hailed from Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road late at night. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he was declared dead on arrival.
With no eyewitnesses and limited CCTV camera coverage near the accident spot, the police probe initially faced major hurdles. 'The team visited the spot, made inquiries about the vehicle… However, due to heavy traffic and the absence of CCTVs in the area, no immediate clue could be found…,' DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary said.
'The team then examined all vehicles along Ring Road, going from Dhaula Kuan to AIIMS, eventually narrowing down to over 20 vehicles. These vehicles and their drivers were examined,' he added.
The breakthrough came when one of the drivers mentioned seeing a white car hit Mulu, said police. Investigators then focused on all white vehicles travelling along that route around the time of the incident. Police said CCTV footage eventually led them to a Hyundai Alcazar, which was damaged on the driver's side.
'The vehicle was traced across the city — from Ring Road to Africa Avenue Marg, Brigadier Hoshiarpur Singh Marg, Aurobindo Road, via New Delhi district and Central district — before being found parked outside a residence in Shiv Vihar Colony in Paschim Vihar,' said an officer.
Inquiry revealed the car belonged to Seema Mehta, who was picked up for questioning. 'She admitted her husband, Rajesh Mehta, was driving the car at the time of the accident. During questioning, Rajesh admitted that around 10 pm, he was driving towards Green Park via Ring Road towards AIIMS at high speed. Near the Hyatt bus stand, he hit an unknown man crossing the road and fled,' the officer said.
Mehta, booked under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (death by negligence) of BNS, was arrested and his car seized.

Cops to expand probe after after AIIMS student's arrest
Jaipur: City police Sunday said they are investigating the possibility of a larger exam cheating racket following the arrest of a final-year MBBS student from AIIMS Jodhpur, a medical intern, and an ayurvedic practitioner in connection with the NEET-UG 2020 impersonation case. The accused include Sachin Gaura (22), a student of AIIMS Jodhpur, Ajit Gaura (30), a medical intern at a govt college in Bharatpur, and Subhash Saini (33), an ayurvedic practitioner who has a prior record of cheating and impersonation-related offences. They were arrested on June 6. Police said Sachin allegedly paid Rs 60 lakh to Saini to facilitate the scheme, which helped him bypass the competitive entrance process and secure admission at AIIMS. The admit card for the NEET UG 2020 exam carried Ajit's photograph instead of Sachin's, allowing another individual, likely Ajit, to appear for the exam on his behalf. Sachin went on to secure 667 marks, helping him to take admission with an All-India Rank of 1,443. DCP (West) Amit Kumar said the role of Saini is central to the case and that his network of accomplices is currently being tracked. "We want to ascertain whether there are others who aided Saini and if this group was involved in similar impersonation cases in the past," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Casablanca: Beautiful New Senior Apartments with Two Bedrooms Senior Apartments | Search Ads Search Now Undo He was accused of charging large sums of money to guarantee NEET clearance, although the exam was eventually cancelled. Six people were arrested at the time following a complaint lodged at Chomu police station. He was also booked in 2021 by Arain Police in Ajmer along with his brother Dr Ashok for cheating. "We will question other suspects who were booked in the previous two cases for more details," said the official.

AIIMS student, intern among 3 held for RajNEET fraud
Jaipur: A final-year MBBS student of AIIMS Jodhpur and a medical intern from Bharatpur were among three persons arrested Friday for alleged involvement in a dummy candidate racket in NEET-UG 2020 exam, police said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jaipur DCP (West) Amit Kumar identified the student as Sachin Gaura (22), intern as Ajit Gaura (30) and the third suspect as Subhash Saini (33). Ajit has completed his MBBS and is interning at Shri Jagannath Pahadia Medical College, Bharatpur, while Saini is posted as a community health officer in Jaipur. All three are residents of Jaipur's Chomu. Sachin allegedly paid Rs 60 lakh to Saini to arrange the impersonation. Saini was previously arrested in a 2013 exam fraud of Rs 65 lakh. Kumar said a case was registered after it emerged that Ajit may have appeared in NEET 2020 in place of Sachin. Sachin's admit card featured Ajit's photograph, and the impersonation helped Sachin to score 667 marks and secure an All-India Rank of 1,443 — good enough for admission to AIIMS Jodhpur. "Ajit had cleared NEET in 2019 after eight years of preparation. Ironically, while he had struggled with backlogs during his MBBS, Sachin, who never took the exam himself, is performing well at AIIMS," DCP Kumar said. The investigators are ascertaining if it was Ajit or someone else who had appeared on behalf of Sachin in the test, Kumar said. Saini, an ayurvedic doctor, allegedly used forged documents and his contacts to facilitate the fraud. The investigators have sought records from National Testing Agency (NTA) — which conducts NEET — AIIMS Jodhpur and Pahadia Medical College. That case led to the arrests of five people, including two postgraduate students from the National Institute of Ayurveda and a first-year MBBS student from Karnataka allegedly trying to field a dummy candidate in this year's NEET-UG exam. Their plans were foiled by a police raid. "Saini is a habitual offender. We suspect there's a major cheating racket in Chomu given this is the second time in 30 days that we busted another NEET fraud," said an officer.

Months before completing MBBS, AIIMS Jodhpur man held over 'dummy candidate' use in NEET exam
Barely months before his MBBS course was to be completed in AIIMS Jodhpur, a man was allegedly found to have paid for a "dummy candidate" in his National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) in 2020, officials said on Friday. Rajasthan Police has arrested him and a doctor for the fraud. Another doctor working as a health officer in Ghatwa, Nagaur was detained in connection with the case, they said. Jaipur Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar said a report was received from the National Examination Agency, New Delhi that Sachin Gora who scored 667 marks in NEET UG-2020 never appeared for the exam and used a "dummy candidate". The DCP said the agency found that the photo of Dr Ajit Gora was used in Sachin's admit card. Sachin is currently a final year student at AIIMS Jodhpur Medical College. Dr Subhash Saini who now works as a health officer in Ghatwa allegedly involved Ajit in the fraud and took money for it. Ajit is currently doing the compulsory one-year internship after completing his MBBS from Bharatpur Medical College. As per initial investigation, a deal of ₹60 lakh was fixed to make the "dummy candidate" clear the test. Police have arrested Sachin and Ajit and detained Saini. During interrogation, police said they found that Saini had taken ₹65 lakh in 2013 to get a person clear the NEET-PG exam. Police had then arrested six people in connection to the case.
