
Ferry fiasco vessel hits the water for the first time
The dual-fuel ferry is being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) to serve the Arran route for Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac).
Port Glasgow firm [[Ferguson Marine]] announced last month that the second of the controversial ferries was on track to be delivered to [[CalMac]] next year.

MV Glen Rosa recently had funnel tops installed before moving to the dry dock.
Contractors have also been on site at Ferguson's carrying out preliminary works for the ferry's mezzanine deck wire installation next month.
The Ferguson CEO Graeme Thomson recently updated the Scottish Parliament's Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee.
He informed the committee that MV Glen Rosa was heading for the dry dock as part of the final stages of construction.

Members of the committee are set to visit Ferguson Marine in the future to see the progress of MV Glen Rosa for themselves.
The first of the new ferries MV Glen Sannox officially began taking passengers in January this year.
Due to ongoing investigations with MV Caledonian Isles, [[CalMac]] previously announced there is no scheduled service to Arran operating from Ardrossan and Brodick between July 25 and September 7 . MV Glen Sannox and MV Alfred will operate Troon-Brodick until Sunday, September 7.

Study to see if Gaelic gives school leavers career advantage
The project will take place this autumn in two phases comprising of group interviews with senior phase (S4-6) pupils in GME across several local authorities and an online survey asking GME school leavers aged 17-25 about the impact GME has had on their career decisions. Dr Emma Bolger and Ann Morrison, from UWS will be working with teachers and careers advisers in GME schools and units to gather information from pupils on how they feel Gaelic will benefit them as they move into the world of work. Dr Bolger said, 'We're really excited to start work on this project. The recent Scottish Languages Bill and the discussions it provoked around the Gaelic and Scots languages mean this research is more relevant than ever.' The study is funded by The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland via a Research Incentive Grant.

Senior lawyer at bust firm facing thousands of complaints about trusts gives advice to MSPs
SUNDAY MAIL EXCLUSIVE: Victims of McClure have questioned the decision. A SENIOR lawyer from a collapsed firm facing complaints about botched property trusts has been advising MSPs on property law. Ross Anderson worked for WW&J McClure when it went bust in 2021, leaving a trail of devastated clients across the UK. Thousands had to pay out large sums after learning family protection trusts arranged to shelter assets from care home fees and inheritance tax were potentially invalid. But we can reveal Anderson has been advising the Scottish Government on proposed trust legislation and appeared at a Holyrood committee as an expert on the law. Mike Pilbeam, who runs group Victims of McClure's, said: 'This is an insult to many thousands of former McClure's clients. How can someone in charge of estate management at the scandal-hit firm be advising the government on best practice?' At the time of closure McClure's had 20,000 trusts on its books. Some victims said they tried to sell a parent's home after their death only to find the owners were strangers listed as trustees of the estate. They had to pay thousands to resolve the issue. Others said the firm was listed as trustee and charged to be removed from paperwork. McClure's clients were taken on by Glasgow law firm Jones Whyte, where Anderson was appointed as a partner. The firm's website said he 'helped the Scottish Parliament with its development of new trust legislation, appearing before the Law Reform committee as a key expert'. The Scottish Parliament said: 'Mr Anderson was one of 22 witnesses the Committee heard from and appeared on behalf of legal firm Jones Whyte.' Anderson said: 'It was entirely appropriate we contribute. I have over a decade's worth of expert experience in Trust administration.'

The Glen Rosa, the second of the two delayed ferries being built at Ferguson Marine, is leaving dry dock after the hull was freshly painted. The ferry was moved into dry dock in Greenock earlier this month, in what was hailed as a 'key milestone' in the vessel's construction. According to the latest estimates, the Glen Rosa is due to be handed over in the second quarter of 2026. PA A spokesman for Ferguson Marine said Glen Rosa would be moved from dry dock on Wednesday. They are now thought to be more than triple the original price tag of £97 million.
