
No letup in heatwave in Punjab, Haryana; Sirsa hottest at 46.4 deg C
Chandigarh, Jun 9 (PTI) There was no respite from blistering heat in Haryana and Punjab on Monday as Sirsa touched 46.4 degrees Celsius while Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded season's highest maximum so far at 43.8 degrees Celsius.
Haryana's Sirsa continued to reel under intense heat, even as most other places in the state also recorded above normal maximum temperatures.

Uttar Pradesh: Heatwave alert till Thursday for south, southwest districts
By Ananya Shukla THE INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a heatwave alert for the western and southern eastern districts of the state until June 12. According to the seven-day forecast, isolated locations in West UP are likely to experience heatwave conditions during the daytime from June 10 to 12. Southern parts of east UP are also expected to face extreme heat through midweek, before a gradual decline in temperatures begins from June 12 onward. Several cities recorded severe heat on June 10, with temperatures soaring well past the 40 degree Celsius (°C) mark. Jhansi topped the charts at a blistering 46.0°C, followed by Orai at 45.2°C. Banda registered 44.8°C, while Kanpur (IAF) and Hamirpur reported 44.6°C each. The IMD forecasts these high temperatures will persist for the next two days, with a gradual drop of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius expected thereafter. Lucknow reported a maximum temperature of 42.7°C which is 3.0°C above normal, and a minimum of 30.6°C, which was 3.4°C above normal. Skies remained clear with no recorded rainfall. The forecast for the state capital indicated continued dry weather, with daytime temperatures around 42°C and nighttime lows near 31°C. Heatwave warnings remain in effect for several districts including Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Etawah, and Jhansi. Other districts such as Banda, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Farrukhabad are also under alert. The government has advised residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours (11 am to 3 pm). Although dry conditions prevailed across the state on June 10, the forecast signals a shift from June 11 onward. Isolated rain and thundershowers are likely to develop in east UP, gradually extending to other districts by June 12, the department said. Gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 km/h are expected to accompany these showers, particularly in central and eastern parts of the state including Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Ayodhya. Mercury in MP's Naogaon reaches 46
Bhopal: The temperature in the city and state sharply remained above the normal mark. Tuesday competed with Monday on the record of the second hottest day of June in Bhopal and it was a tie as the day temperature again stood at 43.4 degrees. A respite from the hot weather was unlikely for the next few days. The day temperature in Bhopal was five degrees more than normal mark, while the night temperature in the city was 28.6 degrees celsius, two degrees more than the normal mark. Day temperature in Naogaon in MP reached 46 degrees celsius. In the forecast for Bhopal on Wednesday the meteorological dept stated it would be mainly clear sky. Day and night temperature would be respectively 43 degrees celsius and 28 degrees celsius while average wind speed will be 26 kilometers per hour. In the forecast for the state the meteorological dept issued warning of heat wave at isolated places in Narmadapuram, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopurkalan, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari districts. A possibility of rainfall or drizzle with thunderstorm, lightning at isolated places was underlined for Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Seoni, Mandla and Balaghat districts in the state. A dry weather would prevail over remaining districts in the state. I n the weather outlook the meteorological dept stated there would be no large change in the weather for the next three days. The meteorological dept stated the northern limit of monsoon continues to pass through Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri, Sandhead Island, Balurghat. An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over north Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level. A trough runs from northwest Uttar Pradesh to west central Bay of Bengal across north Madhya Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh and central Odisha at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

According to the Indian Meteorological department (IMD) and S Sunil Pandey, weather scientist of CSA University predicted that there is no respite during the next two days. However, due to light cloud cover between June 13 to June 15, there is a possibility of strong winds, thunderstorms and locally light rainfall. The relief might be for some time as monsoon rains are expected in the third or fourth week of this month. The IMD stated that climatic changes were indicating that monsoon would soon mark its presence from the fourth week of this month.
