Tuesday and Wednesday are likely going to be smoky. Some rain we're expecting on Thursday might clean up the air, however.

After a cool and cloudy start to the week on Monday, conditions are warmer, windier and brighter in Winnipeg on Tuesday. The sky could become hazy at times. Environment and Climate Change Canada has assessed Winnipeg at moderate risk of poor air quality Tuesday, according to its health index. A low over central Manitoba will bring intermittent rain to wildfire zones in the northwest Tuesday afternoon, including Flin Flon. Around Lynn Lake and further north, the chance of showers is lower, but still favourable. Rain is expected to end in the region Tuesday evening. Although more precipitation is good news, there is also the risk of thunderstorms, which could produce lightning strikes. In the northeast, rain, drizzle, flurries, and even light snow are possible Tuesday afternoon and night. Haze and smoke are also expected around the region. While smoke and haze continue around Manitoba, air quality has improved enough Tuesday for ECCC to end all air quality warnings around the province, except for northwest regions where wildfires are burning.

12 more temperature records broken in B.C. as hot weather persists

Another dozen temperature records have fallen in B.C. thanks to the ongoing spell of warm weather brought to the province by a ridge of high pressure. Monday was also the third day in a row that the hottest spot in Canada was in B.C. Osoyoos claimed that title when it hit 36.7 C on Monday afternoon, a new daily record for the Okanagan community. Other areas where the 12 temperature records were set included Trail, which reached 36.6 C, and Castlegar, which hit 36.4 C and broke a record set in 1918. Environment Canada says the "early season heat event" that brought 15 daily records on Sunday will persist in some areas of the province, including the South Coast and parts of Vancouver Island, the southwestern Interior and western parts of the Kootenays. There are 26 special weather statements in place for southern B.C., with daily high temperatures expected to remain in the high 20s to low 30s in some coastal areas Tuesday, reaching into the mid-to-high 30s in the Interior.
