A woman was killed on Thursday when she was struck by a vehicle after falling into its path at a fast-food drive-thru in northwest Calgary.
The incident happened as a 17-year-old male was driving an SUV through the Wendy's restaurant drive-thru on Brentwood Road northwest at about 12:35 p.m., police said in a release.
At the same time, it's believed a woman in her 70s walked across the drive-thru lane and tripped, falling to the ground in the path of the SUV.
The driver had just placed an order at the speaker when he drove forward slowly and ran over the pedestrian, police said.
The driver pulled over at the adjacent gas station and walked back to the collision scene.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Excessive speed, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision, police said.
