Report: Luka Doncic signs 3-year, $165M extension with Lakers
The Lakers announced the extension but did not divulge terms of the deal, which comes six months to the day after Doncic was acquired by the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks.
Per ESPN, the contract extension includes a player option for the 2028-29 season. It also keeps Doncic out of free agency next summer and nixes his 2026-27 player option in place of the new contract.
"Today is a monumental moment for our franchise. Luka Doncic's future is with the Los Angeles Lakers," said Rob Pelinka, the Lakers president of basketball operations.

Doncic, 26, averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 28 games (all starts) since he was acquired by the Lakers in a three-team deal on Feb. 2.
The Lakers also received Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, and the Mavericks picked up Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick. The Utah Jazz, who helped to facilitate the trade, received Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-round draft pick via the Los Angeles Clippers from the Lakers. Dallas also sent a 2025 second-round selection to Utah.
"I'm really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one," Doncic said. "This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we're building together. I'm going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud. This is just the beginning. I'm excited for what's ahead and to keep building something special with this team."
A five-time All-Star selection, Doncic is averaging 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 450 career games (all starts) with the Mavericks and Lakers.

His agent, Rich Paul, issued a statement that said, in part, that the two "want to evaluate what's best for" the superstar at this point in his career. Many interpreted that as a prelude to a possible trade request. The trade speculation surrounding James has died down a bit over the last week or two. However, all eyes will be on him once training camp starts, and as usual, he will be under a microscope as people analyze his body language and try to decipher how he feels in the moment about playing for the Lakers. Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. We now take a look at Anthony Miller, a power forward who suited up for the Lakers in the 1990s. Miller grew up in Benton Harbor, a small town in southwest Michigan, and played three seasons of college basketball at Michigan State University. The Golden State Warriors took him in the second round of the 1994 NBA Draft, and he was subsequently traded to the Lakers. He played two seasons with the Purple and Gold and averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.9 minutes a game. The 6-foot-9 big man was nicknamed "Pig" because his facial features resembled those of that specific mammal. After leaving the Lakers, Miller spent six more seasons in the NBA. He also spent time with the Yakima Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association and won league championships there in 2003 and 2006. Angels hitters struggle against Aaron Civale and White Sox in shutout loss
Aaron Civale pitched one-hit ball into the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Angels 1-0 on Saturday night to surpass their win total from last season. Chicago improved to 42-69 with its 10th win in 14 games since the All-Star break. It finished with a 41-121 record in 2024, breaking the modern major league record for most losses in a season. The White Sox scored their only run on Kyle Teel's RBI single in the second against Kyle Hendricks (6-8). Teel drove in Luis Robert Jr., who reached on a leadoff single. Civale (3-6) struck out eight in 6⅓ innings. He is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing an unearned run and seven hits in 17⅓ innings. Key stat: Chicago began the day with 27 home runs and 90 runs scored since the All-Star break — tops in the majors. Up next: Right-hander Sean Burke (4-8, 4.17 ERA) starts on Sunday for the White Sox, and right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-9, 5.75 ERA) goes for the Angels.
