Ex-Arsenal playmaker Tomáš Rosický out of hospital after unspecified heart problem

The Hindu27-05-2025

Former Arsenal midfielder Tomáš Rosický was hospitalised in an intensive care unit last week for an unspecified heart-related problem.
Sparta Prague said Rosický, its 44-year-old sports director, was hospitalised last Tuesday and released at the end of last week. No surgery was needed and he was recovering at home. The club said it delayed the announcement of the issue due to its seriousness.
'The good news is that I'm expected to make a full recovery, though I'm currently unable to carry out the demanding responsibilities of a sporting director,' Rosický said in a statement.
Tomáš Sivok, the former Czech Republic international and current manager of Sparta's men's team, has taken over as the interim sports director.

Rosický was called the 'Little Mozart' for his playmaking qualities and retired from playing football in 2017.
He started his pro career at Sparta, won the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and spent 10 oft-injured years with the Gunners, winning the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015.
He was also the Czech Republic's undisputed leader in 105 internationals.
Sparta expressed its full support for Rosický, who will remain in touch as a consultant.
Sparta struggled this season, finishing fourth in the Czech league. Coach Lars Friis was fired this month, and a replacement is being sought.

Neeraj Chopra's 90m Throw

Here's the moment that changed it all: Neeraj Chopra's 90.23m throw. Since 2015, Chopra has thrown between 80 and 90-metres more than 55 times. In his early years, the throws were scattered – most landing between 80m and 85m. But post-pandemic, a majority of his javelin throws landed in clusters between 87m and 90m. Now let's take a broader view: these are throws above 80m by other Indian javelin throwers. Chopra dominates the chart. The closest distance another Indian has registered is Kishore Jena's 87.54m effort in 2023. Between Jena's best at 87.54m and Chopra's 90.23m lie dozens of Chopra's own throws – proof that he hasn't just been the best in India, he's been some classes apart. Neeraj is India's best, but globally, more than 125 throws have crossed the 90m mark since 1990. German thrower Johannes Vetter – one of Chopra's fiercest rivals – has done it 20 times. Chopra's current coach, Czech legend Jan Železný, has done it a staggering 34 times. He still holds the world record: a monstrous 98.48m throw from May 1996, unbeaten to this day. Vetter came close with a 97.76m throw in 2021.
