A group of motorcyclists removed the bike being ridden by a man fatally injured in a crash in Castlecliff during the weekend, Whanganui police say.
A 25 year-old man died from his injuries after the motorcycle he was riding hit a parked car on Seafront Road just after 4pm on Sunday.
Sergeant Mark Taylor said police were keen to hear from anyone who could help them identify the group of riders.
"Disappointingly, after the rider crashed and before emergency services arrived, a group of people on motorbikes took the crash victim's bike. We need the public's help and want to hear from anyone who can help us identify those individuals, or anyone who has descriptions, photos, or video of them," Taylor said.
Taylor urged anyone who witnessed the crash or may have seen the motorcyclists in the area between 2pm and 6pm to contact police.

Woman pleads not guilty to theft after receiving mistaken bank transfer

Auckland retiree Sit Bong (Andrew) Che. Photo: RNZ / Liu Chen A woman charged with theft after receiving a pensioner's life savings by mistake has entered a not guilty plea. The 38-year-old West Auckland woman appeared before a magistrate at the Auckland District Court on Tuesday. Auckland retiree Sit Bong (Andrew) Che, 78, mistakenly transferred $158,643 from the UK early last year to the wrong account after missing a digit when entering payment instructions for his own Westpac account. Following the bank's own internal protocols, Westpac added a zero to the suffix, which ended up being another person's account. The recipient refused to return the money despite complaints Che lodged with the police, the banks in New Zealand and the UK as well as the banking ombudsman in both jurisdictions. Barclays Bank refunded Che's money in May, more than a year after the erroneous transfer occurred. A 37-year-old West Auckland man also pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving $64,000 from the woman. The pair face up to seven years' imprisonment if convicted. They have been granted interim name suppression on the grounds of hardship and fair trial rights until their next appearance on 15 July. The pair have been placed on bail with conditions that include not associating with the complainant.

Woman attacked by dog at Auckland Botanic Gardens

Auckland Botanic Gardens. Photo: Supplied A woman required an ambulance after she was attacked by a dog at Auckland Botanic Gardens on Monday. A St John spokesperson said they were notified of an animal incident at the gardens about 9:30am. "One ambulance responded and transported one patient, in a minor condition, to Bakerfield Medical Centre." Auckland Council licensing and compliance general manager Rob Irvine told RNZ the botanic garden's staff came to the woman's aid after she was injured by a roaming dog in an on-leash area of the park. "We understand that staff administered first aid on site while an ambulance and Animal Management were notified. "We're currently investigating the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage. He said the incident was a reminder to all dog owners to ensure their dogs were not off-leash or roaming in dedicated on-leash areas. "If you see a roaming dog or need to report a dog attack on a person or animal, report it immediately and our Animal Management Officers will be on-site as soon as possible." Roaming dogs can be reported to the council on 09 301 0101 and dog attacks can be reported on 0800 462 685. He asked anyone who witnessed the incident on Monday to call Animal Management. Meanwhile, a woman shared on social media that her mother was the victim of the attack. She claimed after the dog bit her mum's arm unprovoked, its owners did not stay with her as she lay on the concrete path bleeding out. Kumeū rugby field destroyed by burn-outs

The damage caused to the rugby field at Kumeū. Photo: Supplied A 19-year-old man has been arrested after burn-outs destroyed a rugby field in Kumeū. The Kumeū Rugby Club fields were found torn up on Saturday morning, covered in tyre marks. Police later identified a vehicle of interest after help from the public and arrested the car's owner. The Hobsonville teen has had his car impounded and been charged with intentional damage and other driving offences. He will appear in the Waitakere District Court at an unconfirmed date. Sergeant Graham Bennett said locals found the damage on Sunday morning. "A furore ensued on the community grapevines given a prized community asset had been damaged. "Information was quickly passed onto police which was followed up and a vehicle of interest was identified. Bennett thanked the members of the public who supplied the information. "It's a reminder about consequences, and we will not tolerate this behaviour in the community given the risks posed and damage created."
