2 men killed in northwest Alabama crash

MARION COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two men were killed in a crash on I-22 in Marion County on Sunday evening, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Sean Miller, 26, and Adam Silva, 21, were fatally injured when the Chevrolet Tahoe that Miller was driving departed the roadway and overturned. The men, who were from Winfield, were reportedly not wearing their seat belts. Alabama inmate dies at Donaldson Correctional Facility following 'multiple significant health issues' Miller and Silva were ejected from the Tahoe and died at the scene. Another passenger in the Chevrolet was airlifted to UAB Hospital. The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division investigated the crash. BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A recent Blount County undercover operation to catch online predators landed two men behind bars. The Blount County Sheriff's Office arrested Chase Andrew Abercrombie and Kody Ray Smith. Investigators said they were working with Chris Hansen. He hosts 'Takedown with Chris Hansen' and was the face of 'To Catch a Predator.' Abercrombie and Smith were charged with human trafficking, electronic solicitation, sex offenses involving minors and traveling to meet a child to perform a sexual act. Woman found dead outside Birmingham residence The men thought they were speaking with an underage child online. When they arrived at a sting house, however, deputies met them. Hansen said he found one detail of the sting disturbing. 'What surprises me about this particular sting is that one of the men, who is 30 years old, Kody Ray Smith, had just gotten married two weeks before he showed up at the sting house to try to sexually exploit, allegedly, a 15-year-old girl,' Hansen said. Pell City man pleads guilty to illegally possessing firearms

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A convicted felon pleaded guilty to illegally possessing two firearms Tuesday. Kelvontae Wallace, 26, of Pell City, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of machinegun, according to U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona. Between Dec. 2023 and Jan. 2024, Wallace illegally possessed a firearm and a machinegun on two separate occasions, according to the plea agreement: Brighton City Councilman Jerome McMullin charged with releasing video of double homicide during active investigation Talladega police officers responded to call of a person shot at the Orange #1 gas station on Dec. 15, 2023. They arrived and found a victim lying on the ground that had been shot multiple times. Surveillance video from the store showed Wallace drive up to the store, exit his vehicle, and shoot the victim with a 'Glock switch.' On Jan. 2, 2024, authorities went to Wallace's apartment to arrest him for warrants for first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied building, stemming from the December incident in Talladega.
