'All rides cancelled on me': Uber driver demands extra cash from Swedish tourist; leaves him on highway
A Swedish tourist's post about an alleged scam during his Uber ride in India has triggered a fresh round of online criticism towards the ride-hailing giant.
Content creator Jonas, who goes by @iamjonasax on Instagram, detailed the incident in a recent post while touring the country.
He wrote that after booking an Uber Intercity ride, things took a turn when the driver abruptly stopped in the middle of a busy highway and claimed the vehicle had broken down.
'Manish really wanted those rupees,' Jonas wrote in the caption, hinting the driver's motive.
He added, 'Called @uber_india, they sorted me out with not one, not two but three replacement rides, all canceled on me (I assume as I was on the highway).
Got home all well no thanks to Uber, with another story to tell.'
The post quickly gathered traction, drawing reactions from users who shared similar experiences or offered advice. 'I usually take screenshots of drivers whenever they accept the ride and if they cancel for any reason, I post complaints on Twitter,' one user commented.
Another suggested, 'You can file a complaint on Uber and they'll refund the money you spent and take action on the taxi driver for doing this cheap act.'

Prayers for safe return: 20 of a family from Dariyabad on pilgrimage stranded in Iran
1 2 3 4 Prayagraj: About 20 members of a Dariyabad-based family from Sangam city, who had gone on a pilgrimage to Iran on May, remain stranded in the west Asian country amid escalating tensions with Israel. The group includes majority of elderly people and two minors. They were supposed to return on June 13. However, due to Israel's strike on Iran and the subsequent cancellation of flights, the family members were shifted from Tehran to Qom city and are anxiously awaiting return. The worried family members in Sangam city are connecting with the embassy and officials concerned for the safe return of their kin. Dariyabad resident Sameer Naqvi told TOI: "As many as 20 members from the family, including my mother Huma Nazin (58), Syeda Begum (grandmother), uncle, aunt, and others, are currently stranded in Qom city of Iran. They have taken shelter in a basement, and we are in constant touch with them since the strife began." Sameer, a software engineer, added: "We are worried and running from pillar to post for their safe return as most people of the group are elderly and have a limited stock of medicines and money." MP govt promotes rural tourism with new homestays partnerships and recognition for achievements
Bhopal: Highlighting the importance of rural tourism, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday said that tourism in villages generates local jobs for young people while showcasing cultural heritage, festivities, and local food internationally. He was addressing the 'Grameen Rang - Paryatan Sang' state event at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium. He said that expanding homestay network in the state exemplifies "Atithi Devo Bhava." The govt works alongside homestay operators, with support from Panchayat and Rural Development and Tribal Affairs departments, to ensure visitors receive outstanding service, he said. Yadav discussed India's pilgrimage heritage, observing that whilst foreign visitors seek recreational activities, Indians undertake spiritual journeys like the Char Dham Yatra, maintaining Sanatan cultural traditions and discovering regional customs. The CM explored the rural tourism display, engaged with district representatives, and participated in clay artistry. He introduced a microsite for the Responsible Tourism Mission to enhance rural tourism and digital homestay reservations, offering visitors detailed information about rural experiences. The state ranks first in tiger population and wildlife diversity. The 241 new homestays near tourist spots provide authentic rural experiences, including local cuisine and cultural activities. Madhya Pradesh targets establishing 1,000 homestays statewide. Tourism Minister Shri Dharmendra Bhavsingh Lodhi reported over 134.1 million tourist visits last year. Under CM Dr Yadav, 241 homestays were established across 121 villages. Villages from Panna (Madla), Niwari (Ladpura Khas), and Sidhi (Khas) earned national recognition as premier tourism villages. Principal Secretary Sheo Shekhar Shukla detailed the Responsible Tourism Mission's achievements. MP Tourism Corporation trained 10,000 women in hospitality. Self-help groups and artisans create handicrafts purchased by tourists and hotels nationwide. Tourist locations are receiving Divyang facilities, supported by CSR funds. CM Dr Yadav viewed exhibitions featuring traditional crafts including clay art, Mandna, Chitera, bamboo crafts, hand block printing, Gond paintings, and textiles, engaging with artisans.
