James Harden in legal bind after his nephew is accused of raping a woman at his NYE party

Daily Mail4 days ago

Los Angeles Clippers basketball star James Harden has been hit with a lawsuit from a woman claiming she was sexually assaulted by his nephew after attending a New Year's Eve party at his mansion.
Texas real estate agent Marisa Watley, 40, claims she was raped by Justice Armani Blackburn - the son of Harden's sister Arnique Jelks - after a party in Harris County, Texas on December 31, 2024.
While only Blackburn is accused of sexual assault, the NBA star has also been named in the complaint.
The suit alleges that his security team were aware that several women were passed out from intoxication in the house and that she was left in a vulnerable condition.
The complaint also claims that the security 'was aware that Mr Blackburn had engaged in criminal conduct towards others' on the night in question.
Harden, who is the ex-boyfriend of Khloe Kardashian, has been sued for negligence after his team 'recklessly failed to protect Ms Watley' on his own property, and 'the result was sexual assault from which she will suffer indefinitely,' the suit adds.
DailyMail.com has reached out to James Harden's agent Troy Payne and the Los Angeles Clippers for comment.
According to the lawsuit, Watley was with two of her friends at a restaurant when the trio became aware of a party happening at a nearby club called Polekatz.
When the group arrived to the club one of Watley's friends is said to have pointed out at around 3:30am that Harden was there with a group in the VIP section. Soon after the same friend learned of an after party happening at the NBA legend's home.
Watley then claims she got into an Uber with her two friends without knowing the destination, before arriving at Harden's property.
The suit reads: 'There was at least one security guard at the gate, and a guard was reviewing guest identification and instructing the guests to leave their phones in their cars.
'Of course, Ms Watley could not do this because she had come in an Uber.'
According to the complaint, it is believed the guard, who checked Watley and her friends' identification before directing them to go into the 'studio' area of Harden's pad, was armed with a gun.
Blackburn allegedly approached the three women at some point in the early morning, though Watley claims she initially did not know he was Harden's nephew.
After introducing himself, Blackburn is said to have offered the trio a drink from the bottle of liquor he was holding, they each took a small sip from the bottle.
Watley claims that her memory from that point onwards is hazy. She also recalls another woman asleep on a couch in the studio.
In the complaint she also alleges that Blackburn repeatedly said to her 'come on, come on' while tapping her on the chest, as though he wanted her to join him somewhere urgently.
The next thing she remembers, according to the lawsuit, is 'being shocked into
consciousness while lying face down on a bed with a man behind her having aggressive sex with her.'
Watley claims she was in a 'dream-like state and was not fully awake' at the time of the alleged rape.
As he then neared an orgasm, Blackburn is accused of demanding to know if she was on birth control. She recalls saying 'no, no, no' before realizing that the man having sex with her was Blackburn.
The plaintiff says in the complaint that she then began frantically looking for her phone and asking him where she could find it. Blackburn allegedly said he had no idea where it was.
Watley claims one of Harden's security guards entered the room shortly after the incident and ordered her to leave the mansion and kicked her out before she could find her phone.
After telling the guard that she had no way of traveling without a phone she alleges that the guard told her that 'Elaina' - which is her sister's name - was coming to pick her up, though it is unclear how that had been arranged. He then walked her to the front gates and closed them behind her.
Watley claims in the complaint that outside the property she stopped a woman walking her dog and asked for help before her two friends pulled up in a car and she quickly got in. She was then finally able to call her sister at around 2:30pm.
Watley alleges that she went to an emergency room on the same day after struggling to recover mentally from what occurred, and she now speaks with a heavy stutter - a symptom of severe trauma.
With the help of her sister, she is currently seeking therapy and psychiatric help.
Harden, who has an estimated net worth of $200million, is now facing allegations of negligence after Watley claimed his security personnel deliberately delayed and prevented her rescue from the property.
Her two friends are understood to have spent hours searching for Watley after they also lost consciousness shortly after drinking from Blackburn's bottle before later waking up, according to the complaint.
When they demanded the security guards let them look for their friend, they claim one of the guards refused and told them there were no more women in the house, the lawsuit says.
Despite missing personal items themselves, and not being allowed to look for them, one of Watley's friends found her iPhone and took it with her.
After using her phone to get in touch with Elaina, according to the complaint, Watley's sister contacted a friend who was able to speak with Harden's sister Arnique. Through the mutual friend, Elaina is said to have threatened that Watley's friends were prepared to call the police if she was not found.
Harden's security team are said to have then kicked Watley out of the mansion shortly after.
According to the lawsuit, Watley is seeking 'economic, compensatory and punitive damages' after the alleged incident.

‘It's a joke' — Enzo Maresca fumes after Chelsea's two-hour weather delay

A furious Enzo Maresca appeared to question the suitability of the United States to host the Club World Cup after Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Benfica became the sixth match of the tournament to be interrupted by severe storms. Chelsea's match was delayed nearly two hours due to a thunderstorm near the Bank of America stadium in Charlotte. The match was suspended in the 86th minute with Chelsea looking comfortable and leading 1-0, however after the break, Benfica managed to take the game to extra-time courtesy of a penalty from Ángel Di María. Chelsea went on to win 4-1 in extra time, helped by a strong response and a red card for Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni, but Maresca was unhappy with the length of the delay, calling it a 'joke' and insisting that it changed the game and made it difficult to coach. 'After the break, the game changed completely,' Maresca said. 'I think for me personally it's not football. It's already [six] games that they suspended. I think it's a joke to be honest, it's not football. It's not for us. You cannot be inside. It's completely something new, but I struggle to understand. I can understand that for security reasons, you are to suspend the game. But if you suspend [six] games, that means that probably is not the right place to do this competition.' The thunderstorm meant that FIFA had to implement a 'seek cover' protocol as players left the field and supporters moved inside and onto the concourses. The protocol meant that the match was delayed by 30 minutes but if a lightning strike was detected to have struck the ground within a ten-mile radius of the stadium, the 30-minute clock was reset. Ultimately the delay lasted for one hour and 56 minutes. This was the second longest delay of the tournament due to weather, with Benfica participants in the longest delay, a two-hour break during their 6-0 win over Auckland City in Orlando. There have been four other delays at the tournament so far due to storms, including Ulsan vs Mamelodi Sundowns in Orlando, Red Bull Salzburg against Pachuca in Cincinnati, Boca Juniors against Auckland City in Nashville and Palmeiras v Al Ahly in New Jersey. Other matches have taken place in high heat. The match in Charlotte, though, would become the longest match of the tournament so far, where a 4pm kick off ended at 8.38pm local time. Asked whether he was referring to the stadium in Charlotte specifically regarding suitability to host the tournament, Maresca said: 'No, no, no. I'm saying that. I ask you, if in this competition, they already suspended six, seven, eight games, probably there is something that is not working well. Because in a football game, it's not normal to suspend a game.' Pushed on whether the delays are bad for a new competition like the Club World Cup, Maresca said: 'Please, don't misunderstand me. I said it's a fantastic competition. It's a Club World Cup. It's top. We are happy to be in the last eight. We are happy to win all these kind of things. But something happens, [six] games suspended. 'In a World Cup, how many games are suspended? Zero, probably. In Europe, how many games? Zero. We are here, two weeks, they're already suspended [six] games. There is some problem for me personally. But I'm talking as a manager. Because when you are two hours inside and you try to keep them in the game, but for two hours, they are speaking with the family outside for safety reasons. They are eating something, they are playing, they are laughing. How can you keep them two hours inside, focused? It's a joke. That's why I said it. Then we are happy. We are happy to be here. We are happy to be in this competition. But it's something that it's not normal for.' Please enable cookies and other technologies to view this content. 'Two hours inside; people speak with the family outside, if they were good, the security, people eating, people laughing, people talking on the mobile, It's two hours,' Maresca said. 'That's why I said it's not football. 'It's something that you struggle to understand. But we tried to go out, continue in the same way, knowing that it was difficult. It's not random that for 85 minutes, we didn't concede. nothing. And then for five minutes, we conceded a few chances. Why? It's because it started a completely different game. It's not normal. It's not football.' Benfica managed to equalise from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time after Malo Gusto was adjudged to have handled Nicolás Otamendi's header. By the letter of the law it is a penalty, due to his arm's outstretched position, but the French defender could not see the direction of play having leapt to deal with the initial cross and it felt like an extremely harsh decision. VAR sent the referee, Slavko Vincic, to the monitor and he awarded the penalty. Moises Caicedo said the players were upset about the decision. 'We thought it wasn't a penalty because he didn't look at the ball,' he said. 'He couldn't do anything.' Chelsea will face Palmeiras in the quarter-final of the Club World Cup next Friday, in Philadelphia.

‘It's a joke': Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca rages at two-hour weather delay at Club World Cup

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca called the two-hour weather delay that disrupted his team's Club World Cup win over Benfica as a 'joke' and 'not football'. The Blues eventually defeated Benfica 4-1 in extra-time to reach the quarter-finals but the match took four hours and 39 minutes to complete after a storm warming in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chelsea were leading 1-0 when players were asked to leave the pitch. Both teams were taken back inside and were pictured riding exercise bikes and kicking balls in the dressing room during the interruption. It was the sixth time at the Club World Cup that a game had been stopped because of a storm or lightning warning and Maresca went as far to suggest the United States was not a suitable host. Games at the inaugural 32-team tournament are being played across the US, which co-hosts the men's World Cup next year, and other stoppages have taken place in Orlando, Cincinnati and New Jersey. "For me personally, it's not football," Maresca told a press conference at around 2am local time in Charlotte. "I think it's a joke. It's not football. "I can understand that for security reasons, you have to suspend the game. But if you suspend seven or eight games, that means that probably this is not the right place to do this competition. "It's a fantastic competition. It's the Club World Cup, all the best clubs are here," he added. "But six, seven games suspended? It's not normal. In a World Cup how many have they suspended? Probably zero. In a European (championship), how many games? Zero. There is some problem." Maresca's side had appeared set for the last eight after Reece James's free kick had given them a second-half lead in Charlotte, only for the game to be halted four minutes from time due to lightning in the area. A long pause disrupted their rhythm and allowed Benfica to equalise from the penalty spot late on, Angel Di Maria cool and calm from 12 yards after Malo Gusto had handled. But Benfica were rocked moments into extra time by the sending off of Gianluca Prestianni for a second bookable offence, and Chelsea eventually romped home, goals from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall adding gloss to the result as the Portuguese side wilted late on. Chelsea will face Palmeiras, who earlier edged fellow Brazilian club Botafogo, in the last eight in Philadelphia on Friday. "The game was very good for 85 minutes, then we stopped for two hours, and when we started it was a completely different game. It's not the same game because you break the tempo," Maresca said.
