Shri Amaranth Yatra 2025 Suspended Due To Heavy Rainfall
The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, announced that critical repair and maintenance works are required due to the damage caused by heavy rainfall. The deployment of personnel and machinery for these repairs makes it impossible to continue the Yatra, leading to its suspension from August 3, on both routes.
Officials said, 'Torrential rains in Kashmir have rendered the pilgrimage routes unsafe, causing damage that necessitates immediate repair and maintenance. The rains have affected both the Baltal and Pahalgam axes, with conditions worsening over recent days.'
The Baltal route was briefly resumed on this route on July 31 but was suspended again due to continued adverse weather. While the Pahalgam route has been under maintenance since July 30, no pilgrim movement has been allowed due to unsafe conditions.
No convoy movement was permitted from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu to the Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camps in Kashmir, effective from July 31, 2025, and continuing during the suspension period.
More than 4.10 lakh devotees have visited the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnath this year, compared to 5.10 lakh pilgrims last year, indicating a high turnout despite weather challenges.
The 38-day pilgrimage began on July 3 and was scheduled to conclude on August 9.
However, the holy mace of Lord Shiva (Charri Mubarak), carried by Mahant Deependra Giri, will begin its journey from Srinagar's Amareshwar Temple on August 4 and reach the cave shrine on August 9 for the concluding rituals, marking the end of the Yatra on August 9.

Along with the visitors, postal staff too expressed frustration over the major technical fallout. While upgrading the tech is part of a larger digital overhaul of postal systems across the country, the simultaneous roll-out has caused log in failures and long system buffer times at local post offices, leaving staff helpless and customers frustrated. Notably, the issue isn't new. Several post offices in Ludhiana have been facing erratic services since Thursday, particularly in speed post and registered post both widely used for sending rakhis and festive packages. Explaining the disruptions, Manpreet Singh, a staff at the Millerganj post office said, 'Even after logging into our respective IDs, the system keeps buffering and fails to process the bookings. Raksha Bandhan is our busiest season. With high volumes of bookings and deliveries, it's disheartening to face fuming customers and be unable to help.' Meanwhile, Gagandeep Kaur, a resident visiting the Millerganj branch, said, ' I have been coming here since Thursday hoping to send rakhi to my brother, but every time they ask me to come the next day. It's already delayed, and now I'm not sure if it will even reach him before Raksha Bandhan.' Vandita Jain, another customer at the head post office on Ferozepur Road, shared, 'My son works in Delhi and could not get leave this year. I packed a few goodies to send, but the booking counter staff told me the system is down. I always rely on the post office, but this time I might go for a private courier.' Along with the visitors, postal staff too expressed frustration over the major technical fallout. An employee at the head post office admitted that the situation has been equally taxing for them by stating, 'We're bearing the brunt of public anger every day. The new software was supposed to streamline operations, but its abrupt roll-out has only created more confusion and chaos,' the employee said. Prashant Singla, superintendent of the head post office, acknowledged the problem and assured that services would likely be restored by Tuesday morning. 'The issue occurred because the advanced software was installed simultaneously across India. With a pan-India log in, the system collapsed. We're working on restoring services at the earliest.'

Free bus travel for women for Rakshabandhan
Lucknow: The UP govt announced free travel for women passengers in all categories of UPSRTC buses and city buses on Rakshabandhan. The concession will be available from 6 am on Aug 8 to 12 am on Aug 10. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued directions for making a sufficient number of buses available on the roads in urban and rural areas during the festival. He also directed patrolling on the routes to ensure there is no congestion. The Yogi govt allowed women passengers a free ride in roadways buses on Rakshabandhan since 2017. Last year, it extended the facility to city buses as well, which will be ensured this year too.

Amarnath yatra: 'Chhari Mubarak' begins journey to cave shrine
The final leg of the Amarnath yatra began on Monday as Mahant Deependra Giri took out the 'Chhari Mubarak', sacred mace of Lord Shiva, from its abode at Dashnami Akhara Temple for its journey to the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas. Custodian of the Chhari Mubarak Mahant Giri, accompanied by several sadhus, took out the holy mace early in the morning from the Dashnami Akhara Temple at Budshah Chowk here, under tight security. "The holy mace will reach Pahalgam tonight and stay there for two nights followed by a night halt at Chandwari on August 6, Sheshnag on August 7 and Panjtarni on August 8 before reaching the holy cave on August 9 which will mark the culmination of the yatra as per scriptures," he said. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on Saturday ended the month-long yatra, one week ahead of the scheduled end, saying the tracks leading to the holy cave needed repairs after being damaged due to heavy rains recently. More than 4.13 lakh pilgrims performed the annual yatra this year. Giri expressed satisfaction at the large number of pilgrims coming for the yatra this year but urged the authorities to take steps to ensure that the pilgrims can perform the yatra right up to Shravan Purnima, which falls on Raksha Bandhan every year.
