Youth captain Simpson-Pusey keeps options open

Yahoo28-05-2025
Manchester City's Premier League 2 winning captain Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has kept his options open for next season as he wants to "play first-team football".
Simpson-Pusey, 19, led City to a record fourth title in the competition and also became the first defender to claim the PL2 player of the season award.
City's injury crisis allowed Simpson-Pusey to break into the first team this season, making six appearances in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Now he feels he has completed his business at academy level, saying: "I feel like I've done what I've needed to do with the under-21s. I just want to play first team football."
Asked if it would be at another club, Simpson-Pusey told BBC Sport: "I guess we'll see [what happens]. That's not on my mind yet. I'm definitely ready.
"I've not spoken to anyone about it. I'm sure some people will feel the same, especially after winning the league."
City's elite development squad coach Ben Wilkinson told the Manchester Evening News: "He has had a great season. Who knows what is next but he probably wants to leave U21 football.
"The fact he can leave it having lifted the Youth Cup at the end of last year and the PL2 trophy this year means he can be really proud of his academy journey."

Inter Milan Linked Italy Star To Leave PSG – Premier League Clubs On Alert

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to leave PSG, with clubs from the Premier League on alert to sign the Italian international. This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908. By now, the situation of Gianluigi Donnarumma at Paris Saint-Germain is well-known. The Parisians have just made a big money signing goal in the form of Lucas Chevallier from Lille. That looks like a clear statement of intent from PSG. Particularly considering that contract extension talks between the European champions and Donnarumma have stalled. The 26-year-old former AC Milan keeper has rejected the offer of a new deal worth €8 million net per season plus €4 million in add-ons. This is in line with the Parisians' policy of focusing on younger players and not offering big contracts to older players. Therefore, as things stand, Donnarumma is just one year away from the expiration of his contract. Gianluigi Donnarumma To Leave PSG LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 29: Gianluigi. Donnarumma of Paris. That is the biggest sign yet that the Parisians do not consider the 26-year-old a part of their plans. This in spite of Donnarumma's heroics in the Champions League knockouts this season. Inter Milan have long appeared to be suitors for Donnarumma if he sees out his contract in the French capital and leaves on a free transfer. However, if the Italian international leaves this summer, the Premier League would be a likelier destination.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson on demotion to the Conference League, his ‘magic cap' and England's number one chants

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson says demoting the club to the Conference League risks devaluing the FA Cup. Palace qualified for the competition by winning last year's FA Cup, only to be demoted to the Conference League because of a breach of UEFA's multi-club ownership rules. Former co-owner John Textor also owns Ligue 1 club Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League with the place going to them because of their higher domestic league finish. Palace appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who sided with UEFA over the matter. It means, barring any late changes, the Eagles will be playing in Europe's third tier competition next season and Henderson says it is a kick in the teeth. 'As players we win it on the pitch and we expect the authorities to deliver what we've won,' he said, speaking after Palace's Community Shield win over Liverpool. 'I think every mutual supporter would agree with us and you don't want to devalue the FA Cup as well at the end of the day. 'It's a tough competition to win and you should get what you deserve from it.' Despite the disappointment of missing out on a Europa League spot, spirits remain high at the club with Henderson helping his side to a penalty shoot-out win at Wembley over the reigning Premier League champions. And the 28-year-old joked it might have something to do with his lucky cap. 'The magic cap, as people sometimes say to me, so when it was on I knew we had a chance.' Henderson's jubilant post-match celebrations in front of the travelling supporters were followed up by chants of 'England's number one' and while he still has some work to do to replace Jordan Pickford, he says it is something he is working towards. 'I've got to keep delivering in the key moments and have a fantastic season this season and see where it takes me,' he said. 'It's just about putting one foot in front of each other and training well every day and trying to be the best I can be.'
