The couple announced the news with a statement that read: 'Mr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.'
It went on: 'Both families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales, have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.'
Phillips shares a close relationship with both his cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry. Hello!'s royal correspondent, Danielle Stacey, said his relationship with William, 'Peter has been viewed as a supportive older brother figure to Prince William, and the pair have held a close relationship since childhood.'
She added, 'Peter previously said of his cousins that there was 'quite a gang of us' and they 'caused quite a bit of mayhem and chaos'.'
Prince Harry recently skipped the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, and Olivia Henson. The Duke is Prince Archie's godfather. He did attend the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, but he did it without Meghan Markle. He also reportedly kept his distance from his brother, who was also at the funeral. But he has a close enough relationship with his cousin Peter that he would likely make the attempt to go to the wedding, even if security concerns keep him from attending with Meghan and their kids. And with reconciliation with King Charles in the cards, Harry might believe this is the time to talk to William.
This all comes after The Daily Beast reported that, according to a friend of William, 'He absolutely f***ing hates' his brother. That same source also told the outlet that. 'William will never, ever forgive Harry for what he has done. Charles is the king; he can do what he likes. But make no mistake: William believes with every fiber of his being that giving Harry and Meghan back any royal imprimatur is a huge mistake.'
Recent reports indicate King Charles and Prince Harry are on the way to fixing their relationship, with Prince Harry reportedly inviting his family to the next Invictus Games, which will be held in the UK in 2027. There are also reports that the King wants not only Prince Harry but Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, involved in his funeral.
But all of that doesn't seem to extend to Prince William, and now the brothers will have a chance to see each other and finally air out their grievances. That could be a really good thing, or a really bad one.

Saturday's Lotto jackpot estimated at £7.3m after no ticket wins top prize
Saturday's lottery jackpot will be an estimated £7.3 million after no players won Wednesday's top prize. The winning Lotto numbers were 17, 31, 47, 05, 58 and 09, while the bonus number was 35. No players matched all six main numbers, meaning the jackpot was missed, while no ticket-holders won £1 million by matching five of the six numbers plus the bonus ball. Set of balls L3 and draw machine Lotto3 were used in the first Lotto draw since the National Lottery paused over the weekend to enable the biggest technology upgrade in the game's 31-year history. In Lotto HotPicks, which uses the same numbers as the Lotto draw, no players matched all five numbers to win the £350,000 top prize. Two ticket-holders won £13,000 each after matching four of the five numbers. The winning Thunderball numbers were 19, 02, 27, 03 and 38, and the Thunderball was 11. No ticket-holders won £500,000 by matching all five numbers plus the Thunderball. One player matched all five regular numbers, which earned them £5,000.

Howard Stern's iconic radio show is facing cancelation as his $100M Sirius contract nears its end
Howard Stern's iconic radio show is set to be axed after a two-decade run with the broadcaster SiriusXM, according to a new report. The shock jock's contract with the digital radio giant is up for renewal soon, and SiriusXM doesn't expect he'll take them up on a new offer, sources told British tabloid The Sun. The Howard Stern Show experienced a surge in popularity after it was nationally syndicated on terrestrial radio from 1986 to 2005. Stern, known for his direct and controversial persona, has interviewed dozens of A-list celebrities and even former Vice President Kamala Harris, a month before voters headed to the polls in November 2024. In recent years, he has been openly critical of President Trump, saying he 'hated Trump voters,' and branded them as stupid – an opinion that Trump retaliated to by saying that Stern "went woke" and lost listeners as a result. Stern's contract is up in the fall, and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don't intend for him to take it, an insider told The Sun. 'Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It's no longer worth the investment,' the person added. In 2004, Stern became one of the highest-paid radio figures in the U.S. after signing a five-year deal with SiriusXM worth $500 million. The insider claims that SiriusXM was not going to be able to keep up with paying Stern his salary. "But as far as him coming back to doing the show, there's no way they can keep paying his salary," the source said. "After you saw what happened with Stephen Colbert, it's like they just can't afford to keep him going." Another Sun source said Stern's political views were not working in his favor. "If Sirius isn't going to give Stern a good offer, I don't think it would have anything to do with his ratings," the source claimed. "It's more likely everything to do with the political climate." CBS recently announced that Colbert's The Late Show was set to be scrapped because of 'a financial decision,' however, many speculated that the move came because of the host's frequent satirical blows to Trump. Stern joined SiriusXM at age 50 in response to 'censorship' efforts during his time at Viacom by the Federal Communications Commission, which does not regulate the content of satellite programs. The FCC had been fining Stern's station for over a decade. Stern became the most fined radio host between 1990 and 2004, after the FCC issued fines totaling $2.5 million to radio licensees for airing material it considered to be indecent from his show, the highest amount of any American radio show. During his time as a judge on the talent TV series America's Got Talent from 2012 to 2015, his appointment was criticized by The Parents Television Council, the watchdog group that bemoans any suggestion of sex or profanity on TV, for his "reputation for sleaze and misogyny.' The Independent contacted Stern's representatives and SiriusXM for comment. Solve the daily Crossword

Rare copy of The Hobbit sells for 'record-breaking' sum
An "astonishingly rare" first edition of The Hobbit has sold for a "record-breaking" £43,000 at auction. The copy of JRR Tolkien's novel is one of only 1,500 copies that were printed in 1937. It was discovered without a dustcover on a bookcase during a home clearance in Bristol. It was sold to a private collector in the UK through an online auction at Auctioneum in Bath, Somerset, earlier. Caitlin Riley, the book specialist from the auction house, said: "It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are." More news stories for Somerset Listen to the latest news for Somerset The book, which was only expected to fetch between £10,000-£12,000 at auction, attracted hundreds of bidders from all over the world. Ms Riley said the book is in "absolutely beautiful condition" and she believed it sold for a record price for a first edition without a dustcover. "House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome... this could have so easily been sent to landfill, or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there," she added. The book came from the family library of Hubert Priestley who was a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to the Antarctic explorer and geologist, Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. Priestley had strong connections to the University of Oxford where Tolkien stood as Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a Fellow of Pembroke College. Both men knew fellow author C.S. Lewis and it is likely that they knew each other. "It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance," Ms Riley said. She added it was astonishingly rare to find a first edition in such good condition. "Being a children's book, most of them have seen children's hands, children's colouring pens in some cases, so to have one that appears to be completely unread and never enjoyed is really, really astonishingly rare," she said. The Hobbit is one of the most successful children's novels, with more than 100 million copies sold. The story is set in the fantasy world Middle-earth and follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins on a quest to find treasure. The rare edition that was sold also includes rare drawings by Tolkien himself.
