Ramón Rodriguez on the power of vulnerability and grit in ‘Will Trent': ‘that combination of toughness and tenderness really drew me in'
Ramón Rodriguez still remembers the first time someone on the street called him "Will."
"I've had people yell out 'We love you, Will!' in the middle of New York traffic," he laughs. "That was the moment it hit me — people are really connecting with this character."

Rodriguez stars as the titular investigator in ABC's Will Trent, a procedural drama adapted from Karin Slaughter's best-selling crime novels.
"Once I began reading, I was struck by Will's resilience. He had a horrific childhood in the foster system, but he's built this incredible career with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation," says Rodriguez. "He's smart, capable — and deeply scarred. That combination of toughness and tenderness really drew me in.'
Rodriguez's portrayal of Will — a dyslexic agent who hides his vulnerability behind sharp suits — has anchored the show since its 2023 debut. Now renewed for a fourth season, viewers have watched the character slowly evolve, from adopting a Chihuahua named Betty to confronting his painful past.

'She brings out a side of Will that we don't often see,' Rodriguez says of the pup. 'People come up to me all the time to talk about Betty. They think she's my dog — I have to break it to them she's not. But I adore her.'
Season 3 pushed the character further than ever. In a gut-wrenching episode, Will accidentally shoots and kills a young boy while chasing a suspect — a moment that shatters him emotionally.
'That was probably the biggest setback we've seen him go through,' Rodriguez says. 'It stays with him. We've watched him grow in some areas, like discovering family in Puerto Rico or being less ashamed of his dyslexia. But this incident knocks him off his feet.'
Rodriguez, who also directed the season premiere, says the emotional scenes were a challenge, but one he was uniquely equipped to handle after living in Will's skin for three seasons.
'There's a real benefit to being with a character this long,' he says. 'You develop a kind of shorthand. You just know how he would move, how he speaks, how he thinks. It becomes instinctual.'
This season also introduced new characters — and new romantic possibilities. Gina Rodriguez joined as a potential love interest for Will, while Scott Foley's character brought complications for Will's ex, Angie (played by Erika Christensen). Rodríguez was instrumental in casting Gina, who he's known for years.
"I called the showrunners and said, 'I know the perfect person.' Gina was on the shortlist, and she just crushed it,' he says. 'We needed someone who could bring humor, gravity, and keep Will on his toes. She did all of that.'
Off-screen, Rodriguez and Christensen share a strong creative rapport built on years of friendship. "We'd never worked together before this, but we've known each other a long time," he says. "There's something layered and lived-in about Will and Angie's dynamic, and Erika brings so much depth to it. It's a gift to work with someone who can match you emotionally in every scene."
With Will Trent now confirmed for a fourth season, Rodriguez is already thinking about what's next. "The challenge is how to keep it fresh. How do we keep the cast excited, the fans invested? We've got some ideas,' he teases. "But I don't take this for granted. Not for a second."

Arnold Schwarzenegger Makes Bold Comment About Son's 'White Lotus' Scenes
Arnold Schwarzenegger Makes Bold Comment About Son's 'White Lotus' Scenes originally appeared on Parade. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, 77, made a bold comment regarding his son, Patrick Schwarzenegger's NSFW scenes in the third season of the HBO series, The White Lotus. Entertainment Weekly reported that Arnold and his 31-year-old son, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Maria Shriver, had a conversation about their respective careers during a June 2025 episode of Variety's Actors on Actors. Arnold said he was surprised when he saw Patrick's character, Saxon Ratliff, naked on screen. "I couldn't believe [it]. I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie. What is going on here? This is crazy," said Arnold during the interview with his son. Arnold then said he could not be upset with his son because he has also appeared nude in a few of his projects. "Then I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in Conan and Terminator, so don't complain about it.' It was a shock to me that you were following my footsteps so closely," said the former governor of California. He also said he was proud of his son's acting ability. "Your acting surprised the hell out of me. Not that I didn't know you're good. But it was just unbelievable, the kind of stuff that you did in the show," said Arnold to Patrick. Patrick's mother has also shared her opinion of his work on The White Lotus Season 3. During an April 2025 interview on The TODAY Show, Shriver clarified that Patrick is nothing like Saxon, who makes several questionable decisions. "Patrick is not like Saxon. I just want to clear that up. Because people say, 'Is Patrick like Saxon?' I'm like, 'Do you think I would have raised a Saxon?'" said Shriver with a laugh. She also said she "is so happy" for her son that he found his big break on The White Lotus. Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger contemplated using alias because of famous father
US actor Patrick Schwarzenegger has said he contemplated using an alias to stop people from comparing him with his famous father. The 31-year-old from California is known for playing Saxon Ratcliff in series three of dark comedy The White Lotus, and said the show's creator, Mike White, told him his surname comes with 'baggage'. Speaking to his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as part of Variety's Actors On Actors series, he said: 'I think Mike was worried about, if he casted me, what other people would think, which they did, they did care about that. 'You know, people said, Oh, I got the role just because of you, or mum, or whatever that is. 'And I think Mike was a little bit kind of apprehensive at first about that. 'There were times earlier in my career where I was wondering 'Does it make sense to go under some sort of alias? Does it make sense to go under a different name. Do I just use Schwarzenegger? Does that add to comparison? Does that… whatever'. 'And ultimately, I mean, what you've done with your last name and what you've built is, it is incredible. 'It took a while for me to get to a point where I was less worried about like, comparison and living in your shadow, versus me just wanting to carve my own path and wanting to do it the way that I thought I should do it, and kind of taking the baby steps and slowly growing my career over the 10 years. 'Then you have a project like this that just kind of makes it boom.' Arnold said: 'I'm grateful you kept the name because now I can take credit – 'My son, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree'. Those kind of lines that I'm using now. 'You basically now (have) joined this short list of people, of actors in Hollywood that had famous parents. Jamie Lee Curtis, you know, with Tony Curtis. 'The list goes on and on and on, and all of them benefited and also of course had to show that they had talent.' He added: 'I think that if you show that you have the substance, you can get rid of this whole idea of nepotism. 'Just show that you have substance and I think that everyone recognises that now.' Arnold, 77, a former governor of California, was a bodybuilder before he ventured into acting, breaking through with action adventure epic Conan The Barbarian (1982) before his most notable role as the Terminator, in 1984.

Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders reject CEO David Zaslav's $52M pay package
A majority of Warner Bros Discovery shareholders voted against the 2024 pay packages of CEO David Zaslav and other top executives at the media conglomerate's annual stockholder meeting, a Tuesday regulatory filing showed. The board of directors had recommended shareholders to vote in favor of the 2024 executive compensation; however, more than 59% of them rejected the proposal on a non-binding basis. For 2024, Zaslav's total compensation rose 4% from the prior year to $51.9 million. For 2024, CEO David Zaslav's total compensation rose 4% from the prior year to $51.9 million. More than 59% of shareholders rejected the proposal on a non-binding basis. REUTERS Warner Bros Discovery has been struggling to stem declines in its cable TV business amid widespread cord-cutting, focusing instead on its faster-growing streaming and studios divisions. Last month, it missed first-quarter revenue estimates and posted a larger-than-expected loss. The company is also moving towards a potential breakup, CNBC reported last month. WBD had laid the groundwork for a possible sale or spinoff of its declining cable TV assets last December by announcing a separation from its streaming and studio operations. Powered by a strong content slate, including the third season of HBO's 'The White Lotus' and the medical drama series 'The Pitt,' WBD added 5.3 million streaming subscribers in the January-March quarter, beating market expectations, but still far off from streaming industry leader Netflix. Warner Bros. Discovery is also moving towards a potential breakup. REUTERS The company last month also walked back on the branding of its streaming service, Max, bringing back the HBO name it dropped two years ago.
