Counselors head to Osceola High School after students hurt in weekend shooting in Davenport
Counselors will join students and staff on campus Monday at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, district officials say.
The measure comes after a shooting left as many as three students hurt over the weekend.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Famagusta Drive in Davenport.
Investigators said a group of males was involved in some sort of altercation that eventually led to gunfire. PCSO reported two people were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Later Sunday, Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, principal at Osceola High School, shared a statement on Facebook informing the 'Kowboy family' about a 'tragic incident' involving students at Osceola High. Channel 9 confirmed with the School District of Osceola County that the incident Kennedy referred to was the shooting in Davenport.
While a normal class schedule is planned Monday for students, counselors will be on hand to help those who feel they need to talk to a professional about the incident, Kennedy said.
'We are mindful that tomorrow [Monday] begins both state and Advanced Placement testing, so please reach out to administration if your student has been affected by the events that took place so we can seek to make arrangements to ensure they are also supported academically by our team.'
Kennedy's message also noted that three students were hurt in the incident, one person more than what the Sheriff's Office had initially reported.
All victims are expected to survive. Their names have not been released.

County law enforcement association responds to protests against ICE raids
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Law enforcement leaders in San Diego County issued a statement on Tuesday as civil unrest continues in Los Angeles and other cities, stemming from immigration-related raids conducted by federal agents. Louisiana senators push FEMA to halt Risk Rating 2.0 program
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Sens. Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy ask the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to stop the Risk Rating 2.0 program. According to FEMA, Risk Rating 2.0 was created under the Biden administration as a new approach to flood risk assessment through new data. The system checks factors such as flood frequency, flood types, and proximity to flood sources. Cassidy, Kennedy, and other Republicans are asking that the program end due to the increase in premiums under the National Flood Insurance Program. 'Since the Biden Administration's rollout of Risk Rating 2.0, premiums under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) increased in every state. By FEMA's own estimates, 77 percent of all NFIP policies now pay more than under the old system,' the senators wrote. The letter states that Louisiana saw a 234% increase in premiums in 2023, forcing over 52,000 residents out of the program. Other states impacted include Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and West Virginia. 'Each month that Risk Rating 2.0 continues unchecked, more families are forced to abandon their insurance coverage, neighborhoods face economic strain, and entire communities risk collapse after the next disaster,' the lawmakers added. In March 2025, Cassidy and Kennedy introduced legislation to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through Dec. 31, 2026, which would give homeowners long-term stability. Polk County man charged with child sex crimes
HALFWAY, Mo. — A man from Polk County faces several felonies following an investigation related to the sexual exploitation of a child. According to court dockets, Kyle Thomas Otto Bishop, born 1992, is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor child; two counts of second-degree child molestation of a child less than 12 years old; three counts of first-degree promoting child pornography; and three counts of possession of child pornography. The criminal complaint says the child sexual exploitation crimes occurred around May 25, 2025. Bishop created child pornography of a child less than 14 years of age by creating a video depicting himself removing the victim's clothing to expose her genitals and touching the child's genitals with his hand. Benton County treasurer charged with child enticement using Grindr The complaint also says Bishop created child pornography by creating a video depicting himself placing his genitals into the victim's mouth. Additionally, the complaint says Bishop disseminated three videos containing child sexual abuse material. He also possessed videos and images containing child sexual abuse material, as well. Bishop is being held in the Polk County Jail with a $500,000 bond set. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
