Fox - 35 Orlando A Virginia teenager was allegedly shot and killed by a homeowner while filming TikTok prank videos with friends, according to authorities and a search warrant obtained by USA TODAY. The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office said officers received a call about a residential burglary in progress around 3 a.m. on May 3. Tyler Chase Butler, 27, a resident of McKenzie Lane, is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Michael Bosworth Jr. during the incident. The teenager's friends told deputies that they were filming TikTok videos of them doing a "ding dong ditch" prank when they were shot at, according to the warrant. Butler was arrested on May 6 and charged with several crimes, including second-degree murder. Teens were filming TikTok prank when they were shot at Bosworth was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said. A second individual, who police said is a juvenile, was also shot and treated for minor injuries. A third person was not injured, police said. According to the search warrant, Bosworth's friends told police they were knocking on doors in the area as part of a "ding dong ditch" prank they planned to upload to TikTok. The long-running game involves knocking on a person's door and running away before they can answer. The teens said they were shot while running to hide after knocking on a door. They also said they weren't familiar with the neighborhood. Butler was charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said. He was arraigned on May 7 and is set to have a preliminary hearing on June 18, court records show. 'Our thoughts are with the family' Bosworth was a senior at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg, which held its prom hours after his death. In a message to the district, shared with USA TODAY, Principal William Lancaster said the school is offering counseling staff and other support to students. DAVENPORT, Fla. - Three teenagers were hurt in a shooting early Sunday in Davenport after after-prom parties spilled into a condo parking lot, according to deputies. Investigators said the violence erupted after a group of males began arguing. Shots were fired during the fight and authorities believe the injured teens were not the intended targets but were caught in the crossfire. What we know Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on May 4, Polk County deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of a condo complex on Famagusta Drive in Davenport. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a 911 caller reported that a fight had broken out among a group of males, which escalated into gunfire. At least three teenagers were injured. More than 100 people and several vehicles were at the scene, according to deputies, though many took off when responding deputies arrived. Dig deeper An investigation revealed that several Orlando-area schools held proms on Saturday evening and there were prom after-parties at various Airbnb rentals in Osceola County. Law enforcement in that county later shut down those parties, prompting attendees to gather at a Wawa gas station on Osceola Polk Line Road. When Wawa employees told the crowd they were calling law enforcement, the group moved to the Famagusta Drive condo complex, where loud music was played from vehicles and roads were blocked. As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made in the shooting. What we don't know The identities of the three teens injured in the shooting have not been released. According to deputies, the victims include a 17-year-old girl who suffered a graze wound to her forehead, an 18-year-old boy who sustained graze wounds to his shoulder and forehead, and a 17-year-old boy who was injured by debris in his eye. The teen girl has since been treated and released from the hospital. The other two victims remain hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. What they're saying Shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, Osceola High School principal, Elizabeth Kennedy, shared in a statement posted on social media that three students were involved in a "tragic incident" over the weekend. The Osceola County school district confirmed the students had been injured in a Davenport shooting but could not confirm if it was the same shooting that occurred at the Davenport condo complex parking lot. 3 students hurt following after-prom party shootout in Florida Three high school students were injured following a shootout at an after-prom party in Florida over the weekend, officials say. The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting after receiving a call around 3:30 a.m. An argument between a group of males sparked the incident. The victims were inside a parked vehicle when shots erupted. Students from Orlando area high schools were in Davenport after their after-parties at short-term rental properties in Osceola County had been shut down. Initially, the crowd gathered at a Wawa, but after staff threatened to call the police, they eventually moved to the parking lot. Deputies discovered over 100 people at the scene. USA TODAY reached out to the Polk County Sheriff's Office for more information. An 18-year-old male received a graze wound to the shoulder and forehead. The third victim, also 17, had debris in his eye, which was not thought to be a bullet or bullet fragments. Both male victims are still hospitalized as of the morning of May 5. Osceola High School Principal Elizabeth Kennedy issued a statement to the community about the "tragic incident," saying, "I am extremely thankful that all three students survived," according to Fox 13 and WESH. The school official said counselors will be available on campus for students. "As we lean on each other, I want our students to know that they are not alone—our Kowboy family stands united in compassion and strength," the statement continued. "Together, we will find hope, healing, and the resilience to move forward." The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence and seek witnesses. No arrests have been announced so far. Counselors will join students and staff on campus Monday at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, district officials say. The measure comes after a shooting left as many as three students hurt over the weekend. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Famagusta Drive in Davenport. Investigators said a group of males was involved in some sort of altercation that eventually led to gunfire. PCSO reported two people were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Later Sunday, Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy, principal at Osceola High School, shared a statement on Facebook informing the 'Kowboy family' about a 'tragic incident' involving students at Osceola High. Channel 9 confirmed with the School District of Osceola County that the incident Kennedy referred to was the shooting in Davenport. While a normal class schedule is planned Monday for students, counselors will be on hand to help those who feel they need to talk to a professional about the incident, Kennedy said. 'We are mindful that tomorrow [Monday] begins both state and Advanced Placement testing, so please reach out to administration if your student has been affected by the events that took place so we can seek to make arrangements to ensure they are also supported academically by our team.' Kennedy's message also noted that three students were hurt in the incident, one person more than what the Sheriff's Office had initially reported. All victims are expected to survive. You may have become aware of a tragic incident that happened involving three of our students over the weekend. First and foremost, our hearts and thoughts are with the students and families involved. I am extremely thankful that all three students survived. Second, I want to assure you that we will have additional counseling personnel on campus tomorrow to support any student who needs to talk with someone. We have very limited details and can not release any information at this time. We will, however, provide the utmost care for our students as we come together to process the impact on our Kowboy family. Any student who would like to talk to someone on the counseling team tomorrow morning is encouraged to let an administrator know as they arrive on campus. If, at any time, in the morning a student would like to talk to someone, they should tell their teacher and make their way to the media center.
