Gaming authority questions TNPL over surrogate ads of betting apps
The TNPL is an eight-team, franchise-based cricket competition organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) where international and popular IPL cricketers from Tamil Nadu like R Ashwin, Sai Kishore, Shahrukh Khan, and T Natarajan are participating. It is telecast on TV and live-streaming apps.
A senior TNOGA official said that they had a meeting with the TNPL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prasanna Shankar at their office in MRC Nagar in Chennai on Wednesday (June 11). This was a few days after TNOGA sought an explanation after receiving multiple grievance emails from residents of Tamil Nadu, pointing out that TNPL teams have enlisted multiple betting apps like dafabet, 1xBet, MELBET, Cricadda, Pin-up Cricket and JSK1 as main sponsors. These apps are promoted through surrogate advertising like dafanews, MELBAT, Cricadda news, and JSK1 news, etc. TNIE had recently reported on the wide prevalence of surrogate advertising in TNPL.
According to the official, the surrogate advertising of offshore betting apps by TNPL has been found to be 'prima facie objectionable'. The TNOGA official stated that even surrogate advertisement of online betting apps is not allowed as per Section 8 of the TN Prohibition of Online Gaming and Regulation of Online Games Act, which bans the direct or indirect promotion of online gambling. Section 16(2) allows for a punishment of one year prison term or Rs 5 lakh fine for those violating Section 8.

Sonali Bibi and her husband Danish Sheikh, along with their eight-year-old child, are part of a group of six persons who were detained from Delhi a few weeks ago and allegedly pushed into Bangladesh in June this year. Sonali Bibi is eight months pregnant, and her family here is worried about the citizenship of the unborn child. Her father, Bhodu Sheikh, filed a habeas corpus in the Calcutta High Court seeking the return of his pregnant daughter, son-in-law and grandchild. Bhodu is a resident of Paikar in West Bengal's Birbhum district. On Wednesday, the matter was heard in the Division Bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra. Additional Solicitor General Ashok Chakraborty informed the court that as the matter is pending in the Supreme Court, it 'cannot be heard' in the Calcutta High Court. The petitioners' counsel Raghunath Chakraborty submitted in court, 'They have been deported to Bangladesh, we don't know what their condition is. We have withdrawn the petition in the Delhi High Court. There is a pregnant woman, there is a mother with two minors who have been deported, but no initiative has been taken to bring them back.' ASG Ashok Chakraborty observed, 'If they were deported in June, where are they staying now?' Hearing the matter, the court observed, 'It is a serious issue, there should not be a conflicting decision.' The matter will be heard again on September 10. Another family—32-year-old Sweety Bibi with her two sons, aged 6 and 16 years, residents of Dhitora village under Murarai police station in Birbhum district—were also detained and pushed to Bangladesh at the same time. Her relative had also moved a habeas corpus plea in the Calcutta High Court. Both families were detained in K N Katju Marg police station and then deported as 'Bangladeshi citizens'. On August 13, Amir Sheikh, a migrant worker from Malda's Kaliachak who was arrested in Rajasthan and allegedly pushed back into Bangladesh, was recently reunited with his family in Bengal. The BSF, in a submission before the Calcutta High Court, stated that Sheikh was arrested while entering India from Bangladesh 'without proper documents'. Five days later on August 18, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a new scheme, Shramashree, to provide a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for up to one year to migrant workers returning to the state.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI for accepting Rs 1.55 lakh bribe
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 20 (ANI): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Om Prakash, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.55 lakh. The police official, earlier posted at Sohana police station and currently serving at Kharar police station in Mohali district, was apprehended as part of the Bureau's ongoing crackdown on official of the VB said the arrest followed an investigation into an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line. According to the complaint, a case had been registered against one Gurjit Singh and his wife at the Sohana police station. The accused ASI, who was associated with the investigation of that case, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from the complainant for cancelling the added that ASI Om Prakash subsequently accepted Rs 1.55 lakh as part payment of the demanded bribe. A verification conducted by the Vigilance Bureau found the allegations to be true, following which the official was arrested.A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in SAS Nagar (Mohali).Reiterating the state government's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, the spokesperson said the arrest underlines the Vigilance Bureau's determination to take stringent action against corrupt public servants, irrespective of their position or rank.A week earlier, on August 11, PVB, in its ongoing crusade against corruption, had apprehended 10 officials red-handed while accepting bribes in eight different trap cases, stated officials in a official of PVB stated that the department had put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period. He informed that the Bureau had submitted challans about 28 vigilance cases in various competent courts in the last month. Apart from this, six vigilance enquiries have also been registered to thoroughly probe the corruption cases. He added that eight criminal cases were also registered against 13 accused, which include nine government employees. (ANI)

Since the marriage, she claimed that her husband used to taunt her that her life was ruined by marrying him, and say that he could have gotten any beautiful girl like Nora Fatehi. The woman further alleged that her husband is very interested in other girls and he watches objectionable pictures and videos of other girls on social media. The victim also alleged that when she became pregnant, she was secretly given abortion pills. She further claimed that her in-laws also started harassing her for dowry. When their demand was not met, they started torturing her mentally and physically, NBT reported. She said that at the wedding, the girl's family gave jewelry worth Rs 16 lakh, a Mahindra Scorpio worth Rs 24 lakh, and Rs 10 lakh in cash to the in-laws. She claimed that about Rs 76 lakh was spent on the wedding, as per the NDTV India report.
