Superna Launches Data Security Essentials for Dell PowerStore, Delivering Unified Protection for All File Data -- Including Windows Server Workloads
As ransomware attacks become more sophisticated and relentless, organizations need proactive defense that starts where attackers do — at the data layer. Superna's latest innovation for PowerStore delivers real-time visibility and control to reduce risk before an attack begins and stop threats the moment they strike.
Key Capabilities:
Real-Time Threat Detection & Response: Superna continuously monitors all file activity using Dell's Common Event Enabler (CEE) APIs to detect ransomware and suspicious behavior the moment it begins — enabling rapid containment directly at the storage layer.
Complete File Workload Coverage: Unlike point solutions that protect only specific file types or access methods, Superna secures all file data on PowerStore, including data accessed via Windows File Servers — closing critical visibility and control gaps.
Automated Incident Response Playbooks: Upon detection of a threat, Superna can immediately quarantine compromised shares, disable Active Directory accounts, and isolate hosts through deep integration with third-party tools — reducing manual response time to seconds.
Denial-of-Service (DoS) Prevention: Quota-based controls prevent attackers or rogue users from overwhelming PowerStore systems by flooding them with malicious files.
Reinfection Prevention: Post-attack scanning policies flag and isolate files capable of reintroducing malware, ensuring a secure recovery with no hidden threats.
Governance & Compliance Reporting: Comprehensive audit trails track every file access, user action, and system change, enabling regulatory compliance and policy enforcement.
Purpose-Built for Dell PowerStore: Packaged with a simple, per-appliance license, Superna Data Security Essentials offers unlimited protection for NAS and Windows workloads on Superna-enabled PowerStore systems, giving Dell customers an easy path to enterprise-grade cyber resilience.
Why This Matters
Ransomware doesn't target firewalls. It targets data.
Superna protects what matters most by operating directly at the storage layer, where files live and attacks land. Whether it's stopping encryption in real time or ensuring clean, auditable recovery. Superna delivers continuous protection across the entire attack lifecycle.
About Superna
Superna is the only unified platform delivering continuous data-layer protection across the full lifecycle of a cyberattack: before, during, and after. As threats evolve and security stacks grow increasingly fragmented, Superna replaces disconnected point tools with a single solution that:
Reduces risk by hardening access to high-value, overexposed data
Detects and contains active threats in real time
Recovers with integrity using forensic-level audit trails
Operates natively at the storage layer—where attackers strike
Secures both structured and unstructured data environments
Superna is trusted by the world's most data-intensive organizations to protect what others overlook: the data itself.

Labor Day laptop sales — 15 early deals I'd shop ahead of September
The unofficial end of summer is just days away. That means Labor Day laptop sales are here and I'm seeing impressive discounts on some of the best laptops we've tested. As a MacBook Air user, I'm always looking for Apple deals and right now Amazon has MacBooks on sale from $799. This includes the excellent 13-inch MacBook Air (M4) for $799 and the 15-inch MacBook Air (M4) for $999. That's cheaper than the prices I saw on Prime Day and a new all-time price low for both machines. If you prefer a Windows machine, it's hard to beat Best Buy. Right now Best Buy has Windows laptops on sale from $219. I'm a fan of the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 for $899. You get a beefy machine with a 16-inch AMOLED display, Core Ultra 7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. If it's value you're after, I'm a big fan of the XPS 13 for $799 at Dell. Microsoft's Bad News—Most Windows Users Must Now Upgrade
It was all going so well — but not any more. It now seems that more than half of all Windows users must now upgrade their PCs, a situation that seems to be getting worse. Given the heightened, AI-fueled threat landscape, we're in dangerous territory. In July, Microsoft hit a long-awaited milestone. After years of trying, Windows 11's market share finally overtook its soon-to-retire older sibling. For the first time, more than half of all users were on Windows 11, a number that was quickly accelerating. But then Microsoft surprised all those Windows 10 holdouts with a 12-month lifeline. Suddenly, an essentially free 12-month extension was on the table despite all the prior mood music suggesting that would not happen. I warned that this risked killing the migration to Windows 11, and that's exactly what seems to be happening. When Windows 11 hit its 54% market share milestone in July, Windows 10 dropped down to 43%. A month earlier, both versions of the OS had been on around 48%. This was great progress — finally. As recently as May, Windows 10 was still well ahead of Windows 11 by a full ten points — 53% to 43%. But as the impact of the 12-month extension kicks in, August's Statcounter data is bad news for that persistent Windows 11 campaign, which pushed the security benefits of the newer OS just as much as its frothy AI features. The data is illustrative rather than exact, but it's a solid indicator as to what's happening across the user base. As at August 20, Windows 10 has bounced back to 47% with Windows 11 dropping to 49%. And that decline could be accelerating. We've gone backwards to most Windows users still needing to upgrade. We need to see signs that such upgrades are continuing despite the ESU u-turn, otherwise October 2026 just becomes the new cliff edge. Microsoft hasn't let up on its Windows 11 security messaging, pushing users to upgrade despite the 12-month moratorium. But Windows 11 has failed to inspire Windows 10 users to move, and there's no change in that reluctance. We have even seen some promotion of the non-AI (aka more private) benefits of the older OS. Despite the u-turn, Windows 10 security updates do end on October 14 this year. To extend those, you need to use your Microsoft account to select one of the available options — details here. The hope is the swing back to Windows 10 means millions of users are taking those options, and this isn't just delaying an inevitable cliff edge.
